Mike Mitchell has been playing drums since he was two years old. He was introduced, seriously to jazz at age 14, which was the beginning of his study of the art form. By age 17, he had performed/toured with Derrick Hodge, Kamasi Washington, Jon Bap, Polyrhythmic, 7 Davis jr, Ruth B, Chrisette Michel, New World Order, and Stanley Clarke. Mike is currently in the final stages of completing his sophomore project, Killing Bugs, and continues to tour and record with today's top artists.

don't know if those two things are necessarily mutually exclusive; most great drummers' speed is super fast and full of melody and still comes out faster than people who are just focused on speed. I'm also 20 btw, just wanted to share that thought. But I see what you're saying

Mike is my favorite drummer of all time. He plays fast but also thoughtfully, kind of the drummer equivalent of a John McLaughlin. One of the several times I saw him with Stanley Clarke, he fell off his throne he was hitting so hard. And he kept right on playing, all four limbs acting like they were different virtuosic percussionists! And my favorite thing about this solo? That it remains interesting throughout, managing changes and polyrhythms while keeping a steady, underlying beat...

At the risk (I don't care) of sounding un-PC, why do kids glorify all the no talent rappers and gangsters, when they could be watching people like Mike, Eric Moore, Tony Royster? Go to Home Depot, buy a couple buckets and get a pair of $6 sticks on Sam Ash and just start banging rhythms instead. Young guys who found out what they were good at and became the best. Kids just settle for the easy way, I guess. Thank God for guys like Mike.

He was Stanley Clarke's drummer for at least three years. My first of three Stanley concerts was at Chicago, SPACE, (Evanston, IL) I forgot to look up Mr. Clarke's personnel for the evening and then I saw this young man play. O.M. GOD!! I looked at my friend saying, "Is that Tony Royster Jr??" No. It was Mike Mitchell!! He is my all-time favorite drummer, and I have seen Buddy the master three times. IMO, Mr. Rich looks down on this youngster with a nice big SMILE. FWIW, I have seen Michael do better solos than this!!!❤

Sounds like Hot For Teacher if Alex Van Halen was an octopus hahaha. What Mike’s doing there is absolutely unreal. The ghost notes between the snare and the ride (especially at that tempo) is incredible. And on top of that, he’s playing the hi hat and left bass pedal at the same time heel up on the left foot, while playing the right bass pedal heel-toe at twice the speed. Mike’s independence on the drum kit is insane, reminds me a lot of guys like Thomas Lang, Virgil Donati, Dennis Chambers, Billy Cobham, and many of the other legends of drumming. The technique, groove, speed, feel, power, and consistency that Mike has is unparalleled in my opinion (especially at such a young age).
