It's crazy to me that white didn't take the draw with 13-15 seconds on the clock vs 4min+ no matter the rating difference. That wasn't a position to play with so little time.

Where was a draw offered? Miss Pinkamena certainly wouldn't offer or accept one with a 4:30 minute advantage? What am I missing? I'm no expert, not even competent, but I think if you rewind to 13:02 you'll see Miss Pinka then had a clear understanding of her advantage.

​​​@@gerry4b she had a three fold repetition, she chose to move out of it getting in a worse position with little time on the clock. Check at 15:18 Ne2 Rc2 Nd4 (back to d4) Rc1 Ne2 (second repetition) but she sidesteps with Rd1 which is really not a good idea IMO

While Pinkamena finished her opponent off nicely otherwise, it is of course possible that at 17:03 she really did miss ...Qe3#. Anyone might have missed that under the circumstances. On the other hand Pinkamena has a fun side and she may have chosen ...Bxc5 instead of ...Qe3# simply to enjoy her overwhelming position just a bit longer in case Ms. Blinova continued to play on out of inertia in her severe time pressure. The move ...Qe3# is one Pinkamena would instantly find ordinarily. That is why I think she may just have just wanted to enjoy her winning position a teeny weeny bit longer. The smile Pinkamena flashed after Ms. Blinova gave up shows just how much Pinkamena enjoyed winning the game and rightfully so in view of the rating difference. I would add though that these are FIDE ratings but I doubt most of these rapid games are FIDE rated since Pinkamena is much, much stronger than 1399 at any time control in any rating system.

All CFN Matches are FIDE rated - other than exhibitions, like The Olfort Cup, or Pairs Chess tournaments. A quick reference is provided by the game description. If the players ELO is indicated along with their name... the game is played under FIDE calculations.

A year ago I would be able to understand that because her endgame was much weaker than it is now. But in July 2023 it's hard to believe that Pinkamena isn't much higher FIDE rapid rated than 1399 since she is now fairly skilled in all aspects of chess.

And also keep in mind that Miss Pinka plays a lot of chess, in a very prominent club, in the most astute chess city on earth. All her opponents are well aware of her notoriety, and all are doing their best to defeat her - in front of the cameras. I am not one enamored of ELO, particularly in a ten year old. What will be, will be. Still Miss Pinka is a very competent and dangerous advisory. She can't be ignored by anyone under GM status. And all her games, and all her contributions to the Channels content are exemplary, entertaining, and admirable. She is a very impressive young woman.

No, playing ....Qe3 over ...Re8 at 17:03 as OP suggests isn't mate in 1. To clarify... In the position arising at 16:54/16:55, Black playing ...Qe3 over ...Re8 is likely to have resulted in: (a) a Queen trade on e3 (e.g., ...Qe3 as OP suggests, followed by Qxe3 Rxe3+ OR Qxe3 Bxe3). White can play on in this line. However, given the state of the game (notably material being even, Black being on the attack, and the extreme time disparity) Black obviously doesn't want to trade Queens, much less be the one initiating a Queen trade. (b) White blundering a Queen (e.g., ...Qe3+, White panic blocking with Bf3, then ...Qxa3). (c) White instinctively moving the King back to h2 (because it was safe there on White's previous turn, also with the Black's Queen and Bishop on the same diagonal, as seen at 16:52). However, White's King sliding back to h2 in response to Qe3+ would have blundered a forced mate. For instance, from the position at 16:55, if we take OP's suggestion of ...Qe3+ and White blunders by responding with Kh2, Black would have been able to follow up with Be5+ forcing White's King to h1. Black continues with Qe1+ forcing White to block with Bf1, and Black mates with Qxf1 (bearing in mind Black's Bishop, now on e5, is covering h2). If the Rook takes back variation of (a) had been followed, a line that is analogous to the one described in (c) is possible. However, that line actually being played relies on White missing some obvious ways to get her King out of trouble. For example, after Black completes the exchange of Queens on e3 with ...Rxe3+, White's King can go to f2. Black can follow up with a discovered check from the Bishop on White's King by moving her Rook anywhere except e2 (as that would hang Kxe2). In these positions, White can put her King on a light square (e.g., f3 or e2) to escape and prevent all future checks from Black's bishop.
