My issue with the trolls... it was far more than 10k years ago when the elves split from the trolls because 10k years ago they were part of the war, with the high elves and night elves already split apart etc. I believe they will be regular trolls. Or at least they should be.

If the expansion brings back the feeling of the older expansions like MoP that's great. However what Blizzard has to understand is that focusing all content around raiding and M+ and nothing else is a bad idea. There's a lot of players who do neither of these, at least not on a regular basis, and they want some fun and interesting stuff to do in the open world. That's why real player housing is such a great thing - people like to build stuff with cool building blocks. The garrison could have been great if it had been all about being creative with a toolset instead of what it really was. The most fun thing I ever did for my garrison was hunting for the different soundtracks.

Agreed especially on the soundtracks. I specifically remember feeling super sad at the disappointment that was garrisons and their lack of customizations. The role play player base has been asking for houses for a long time too, I can’t see what the issue is in not implementing it

The blue dragonflight pretty much disbanded on their own. Kalec tried to save them, as did Kiry a bit as well, but ultimately they left little by little and by the time Kalec came back to the Nexus after the tragedy at Theramore and subsequent battle against Garrosh again and then Kalec spending time in Dal among the Kirin Tor, the blues were mostly gone. When Kiry left, he went on his way..and not long after stumbled upon the remains of Galakrond...that story is pretty wild too! So excited for this expansion.

As far as black dragons go, you keep forgetting Sabellian, the uncorrupted black dragon in Outlands. Kalecgos isn't the former aspect of the blue dragonflight, he's the CURRENT aspect. Another thing I think is worth mentioning, is that another aspect cannot be empowered yet. It can only occur once every 400 years or so, and it happened back in Cata with Kalecgos.

Most people keep forgetting Sabellian (including Blizzard apparently), although I wouldn't go as far as to say that he is uncorrupted as we don't know that, just because he didn't attack us doesn't mean anything (look at Nalice and Serinar in wotlk). Sabellian was working with the Wyrm cult on Outland to gather black dragon eggs and we did help him with his mission during our questing there, so there are more black dragons out there.

Dude I cant. And I cant anymore, the entirity of Shadowlands ruined the lore for me. Meaning it ruined the setting, the fantasy, the world, all the driving forces for me to be part of Azeroth, so I cant really get into the game anymore. The only reason I keep watching Warcraft news is the copium of "Maybe they will actually write all of Shadowlands off the Lore, Remake the Sylvanas storyline of she just dying by Saurfang's hand at the end of BfA, and thats it." If they just write Shadowlands as never happened, killed sylvanas by Saurfang's Hand, that'd be awesome.

There is potential there but I have an uncomfortable feeling about potential retcons in all this. The Centaur lore and the Primordial Troll lore in particular bother me. The Centaur lore because it quite possibly throws all the established Centaur lore out the window with a random 'oh you were just wrong the whole time' regardless how much of our interactions with even the 'parents' of the Centaur suggested. As for the Primordial Lore, I can see that as crapping on the Zandalari (nothing like having your ancestoral legacy discredited) as well as the lore we got out Shadow of the Horde, my favorate WoW novel. Anyway, I guess we will see. I just occationally remember that the guys writing this expansion were the ones writing Shadowlands and BfA and for me it wasn't just what they focused on but how they treated the established lore that annoyed me a great deal. These are the guys who turned Arthas into a soul fart in a sword.

I don't know why you guys are speculating about an uncorrupted broodmother, when it was recently stated that Sabellian, Deathwing's son and prime lieutenant until he was left behind in the Outlands, is still alive in Exploring Azeroth. Also apparently Sintharia/Sinestra was been changed a while back to not be his mother. That's definitly interesting.

Where was that stated? I was under the impression that Sabellian was only of sane mind because there was no old god presence on Outland to inflame his corruption, and it would come right back if he returned to Azeroth. It's possible the corruption has faded entirely during his time there, but I haven't seen that suggested elsewhere, and the WoW writers already have a history of forgetting Sabellian. ...Though I would happily be wrong, as I've been wanting them to bring up Sabellian for some time now.

@@timar6868 Deathwing can't be Wrathion's father as only Sinestra survived mating with Deathwing after he became magma, something which Blizz confirmed. Nyxondra, the only confirmed mother of one of Wrathion's components is Deathwing's daughter.

@@jakobknudsen6864 It has been stated in Exploring Azeroth by Mathias Shaw that Sabellian is still alive, the Si:7 known his true nature and that he is not an immediate threat. I'm a bit annoyed that they are speculating about entirely new characters out of nowhere and completely failing to mention others that already exist. Plus the Island Expedition also has a Chromatic Dragon which goes against the theory that there is a new brood. As for everything else... well there was an old god presence in Outlands, called the Summoned Old God(no name given) defeated during BC, but Sabellian didn't show signs of corruption during that expansion. He was mostly a bit rude when interrupted and considered the Player and Rexxar a friend. Also of note is that Wrathion's cure that he found in Karazhan was a potion and Sabellian was also a pretty good alchemist. If I had to guess the distance gave him enough sanity to research a cure.

I loved the whole Deaths of Chromie mini game. It was so fun. I don't think anyone else in my guild even gave it a chance though. It was great solo content that was short enough to not be a months long grind. The rewards weren't great, but there was enough random goodies you could get to keep going. Mini pets and such. And the chromatic transmog set was alright.

Just because story is encrypted, doesn't automatically make it better. Having no information can also mean that they have no idea yet. After shadowlands they would have to perform a 180 in storytelling and who believes that's possible

I understand you are really into theory-crafting the lore of the game still. You do a great job. The sad truth is that the team at Blizzard isn't even putting half the effort you are into all this. Almost all of the current leads/team needs to be purged when Microsoft gets control of it. I would bet that less than 20% of their staff actually play the game. They have to really "fix" the game and make it "fun" again somehow for anyone (not already enslaved to it) to really consider coming back to this game. I have almost 0 faith in this company to deliver. They always promise something cool and recent history shows they are unwilling/incapable of doing so. Expect the worst and hope for the best. Microsoft is worse than Blizzard at developing and storytelling just look at the state of Halo and how many people are jumping ship at Microsoft’s flagship studio 343 due to mismanagement. Microsoft hires the most incompetent people available both in terms of writers and developers, they also keep most of their devs on 18 month subcontracts so there’s constant churn to the point the game becomes stuck in development hell and no new content can be added due to new teams coming in and having to relearn everything. If you think it can’t get worse at Blizzard, just wait until Microsoft is in charge they will gut this IP just like they did with Bungie’s Halo when they formed 343

As INVISGOTH said, I can ignore the story if the core mechanic/things in the Expan are fun to do. Mind you, I'm also a bit biased because I'm not much of a lore nerd. I've gotten into the lore A LOT more recently within Shadowlands. Butttt that's about it. I did pay attention a lot during Legion, but that's because it was partially about Illidan. Your videos are helpful when it comes down to learning bits & pieces of the lore. I just hope Dragonflight is really fun, I hope the Transmog styles are sick, I hope the dungeons are fun & the raids as well.

A skinsuit wearing imitation of the thing you love. It has some of the mannerisms of the original and kind of does what it's supposed to do, but you can see the seams in the back of its head. Instead of presenting itself fairly and honestly, it's using the skin of the thing you love to insert its subverted core into your life. Without the skin, people would pass it over and it wouldn't be able to receive the attention it currently receives. Besides the fact that the lore of Warcraft has already been subverted for years now, the track record of new Blizzard in the technical department has been appalling as well. They can't even handle a remaster of Warcraft 3, a straightforward 20 year old strategy game, how will they tackle something as complex as an MMO? I hope they can turn things around and pull a No Man's Sky, but I'm setting my expectations extremely low.

It always makes me sad how blizzard was willing to acknowledge if you killed ALL of the red dragons in the ruby Sanctum, but don't even mention if you went out of your way to not kill any of them. Honestly, I am really excited to go back to what is essentially a 'base' land on Azeroth, something familiar with races and people we know and some extra new things to explore. If they just give me a good story narrative, I'm gonna have such a good time with just that. And a way to bring back dragons that have been declining/suffering in recent years will come back from the brink like the Black will be so exciting to see.

The number of problems they need to fix is contrary to their model. Classes need flavor again, they need to focus on making the community solid again by getting rid of a lot of convenience to force players to rely on each other. Getting away from it being about a solo player experience. The art team can’t carry the game.

@@frdrkify Let’s take Paladins for example. One of the most easy to feature classes in the game. From classic to wrath they had quests involving world lore, an epic quest to learn to summon their holy mount, the ability to sense and turn away the dead, could protect others at the cost of their own life with divine intervention. Class integrity was sacrificed to make classes more accessible to new players. Paladins feel more like holy rogues now. Calling combo points holy power doesn’t change the feeling of being held up by a bad mechanic. Warlocks would be another wonderful example. They’re given all these dark assets and class ideation, but then have no opportunity or feature to play as a dark wielding chaotic. We see this with a lot of classes. Their legion artifact is being used a break in case, in the Ashbringer was thrown in to make paladin’s happy. Kind of like how to didn’t capitalize on Arthas in Shadowlands, or how the most Paladin of all the characters in WoW, Uther, became this conflicted corrupted character. Doesn’t fit his class of character at all. The limitations of the classes is what made them fun to play. If every class can do anything, one has no passion in choosing a class. Was DI stupid mechanically? Sure, absolutely. But I remember the number of times DI improved morale in raid nights spent wiping over and over again on a boss, creating laughter where there wouldn’t been burnout. Give druids the ability to choose what types of animals they shift into, even something as simple as “glow green and sit down” to “commune with the emerald dream is a massive class flavor. You’re not a tree throwing hots, you’re the living and breathing conduit for the nature of a dying world. Monks currently have some good flavor, even more so when mists was content, allow DK’s to raise npc companions to accompany them. Give rogues stealth challenges via the syndicate or some such faction. The way classes play should be integral to their flavor. So if I’m spending holy points as a Paladin, we’ve already missed the mark of, “I am here to avenge the fallen with massive strikes from my divinely imbued hammer.” I’m retail, classes feel like an afterthought.

Also, involve the worlds current factions in game and in items. Perhaps a set of Argent dawn armor for Paladins. Syndicate armor for rogues. We may be the world’s champions, but we definitely don’t feel like a part of Azeroth. We’re like Azeroth’s bouncers. Not people who live and breath in the world itself.

Happy a lot of Cataclysm/Wrath races lore is coming in. Honestly for some of shit Cata gets, overall it was a fantastic expansion gameplay and lore wise. Seeing my favorite lore being expanded on, plus a MoP 2.0 with a 10,000 year old mysterious land mass is quite enticing. As MoP was super fun. Maybe the wild gods in MoP will be involved since the lore between new Centaurs and Onuara or however it was spelled

Come to think of it, what was the point of Azerite? It was shown to be pretty powerful and sought-after, but did anyone ever use it? For what? Teldrassil was burned with simple fire catapults, and Lordaeron was assaulted by a good old regular siege. Or am I missing something?

I would just love doing some down to earth quests, kill some boars that are messing with the farmers, learn about a bandit syndicate that is threatening the kingdom, etc. Learn about universe threatening stuff in the background and let the big guys deal with that stuff. I would be happy to go fetch some meat for them to buff themself!

what particularly makes a game feel like a world to you? imo scaling precludes any feelings of a world since the items no longer exist independently of players. contrast with unique effect items which players continued to pursue regardless of level until nerfs such as tidal charm, skull of impending doom, linkens boomerang, and old tier set bonuses
