The best Bomberman game for me is still Bomberman PSP. You can just tell alot of budget went into the making of the game. Heck the attention to detail is insane whenever you destroy enemies. Each enemy has their own death animation and the bosses (from World 4 onwards) actually react whenever hit. Some of them shake violently like a machine would and the organic ones flinch. Not to mention the amount of worlds they have (each world having 10 levels too). Coupled with fun multiplayer and a remade classic mode as an extra game mode. It’s the most enjoyable Bomberman to date

Honestly, SBR2's story made me realize how much important were the dastardlies in SBR1'story: Now, I might be in the minority but I think that a Bomberman reboot is the right choice if it's objective is to try to give the franchise a stable lore and story, and giving White some siblings can work, but they were all extremely one-note and couldn't work as characters outside of a joke or two, which is why the dastardlies were necessary, as 1, they reminded people of the franchise's roots, and 2, their powers and personalities were able to create good dynamics with the heroes which kept players interested, and made boss fights memorable. The issue with sbr2 is that, as there is no group of evil bombers or anything else the siblings can confront themselves with, they are not able to make great dynamics with each other and the story becomes much more of a chore while the bosses are just big robots with no personality and the villain, Fussel (who's also the only other speaking character in the plot) only appears at the end and his tone is too different and dark compared to everything else which makes him fall flat too. I'm not asking for a "deep, complex and M rated" for Bomberman, but I just wish it had "something" that made it worthwhile outside of one random plot twist. Also i think the fact the only the only 3 new playable characters in are regular enemies shows how much they cared about making this game.

The Ellon and Lugion are basically Cyber-Elves, Fusell is similar to Dr. Weil in design and being one who was forced to be immortal (even the plugs Fusell has look like the ones seen when Dr. Weil attatches himself to Ragnarok), but with a vaguely Sigma-esque head.

Bombergirl is amazing! I know the girls and the art can be difficult to stomach for some people, but the gameplay is so refreshing after how stale the Bomberman gameplay has gotten. Adding classes and an actual objective other than blow up the other players adds so much depth to the game. The only downside I see to it is ping can really break a match.

Hey, a followup!! I watched the 8 hour one over the over the holidays last year, it got me to marathon Jetters. Probably the most emotional an anime has ever made me. Bomberman N64 was a big part of my childhood, and your videos have been reviving my fixation on it and Bomberman as a whole!! I really wish Konami loved this series nearly as much as the fans, but these have given me a lot of games and things to be able to go back and check out! But, WOW, I had no idea how much of a straight up downgrade SBR2 was: no co-op campaign? reduced roster from SBR1? removed alternate stages? and the 1 new mode isn't even balanced properly? Hudson would have never done this.... Why does Konami consistently make the worst decisions?

I appreciate the eerie use of Jetters soundtrack, but, hooooo, that's actually... pretty sad. Like they almost had a really interesting villain, but the mood is definitely thrown off by the poor writing. The fact they didn't even try to help Fussel in any way after the game inverts to being morbidly comical, even! Well, on the bright side, the homage to the Super series bosses (and maybe Altair) is neat too. Man... It's good to see you doing this again though, this was a fun and .... more digestable video that I didn't have to watch 3 days in segments to finish! Yay~! Looking forward to what Bomberman games may appear in 2024.

Nice vid and Merry Christmas, Rife! After the first playthrough and revisiting the game again, I find the SBR2 storyline to be kind of unintelligible, especially towards the end when Fusel talks about the reason for his actions. As for my impressions, the game is slightly better than SBR1, but we are still sent into the standard monotonous gameplay, similar in feel to SBR1, but stretched out over several hours thanks to Ellons grind. Overall, SBR2 left me in a similar mood as after playing through SBR1 and Sonic Forces: Slight Disappointment, but overall it's not a bad game. P.S: Now I'm trying to formulate my thoughts on this and finally sit down to write a script for my video.

I will also add some new stuff that was released for Bombergirl recently: - Private matchmaking was added to the game, it has specific requirements like NAT A and a ping lower than 100ms, but it comes and goes like events - The 2 year Anniversary is running RIGHT NOW and you can get a free girl just by logging in - The PC version is almost up-to-date to the Arcade version minus the Rainbow exclusive content, like new music and graphics - A report function was added and you can report people from your team and the enemy team Also: - A spanish wiki and guides are now in progress (they are based on the english ones) - Somehow the game's servers became a bit unstable, resulting on an increase of lag of about 50ms for no reason, and it has been happening since Private matchmaking were added, but it has gotten better since them Putting that aside, no wonder Konami sent so few copies of SBR2 to stores, the downgrade is horrible. How can you remove content from the previous game, resell content that was literally FREE and them just cobble it all together for 50$? It would have been decent if it was 30$, but not 50$. No wonder i saw it on sale at 35% off after 2 months of release, and it's still on sale lol Also, the Dastardly Bombers getting into the cover art for the game but only appearing in the story mode credits reeks of content that was rushed and had to be cut since it couldn't be finished properly, like the elemental Ellons not having too much use in-game despite having working effects like bombs getting frozen and delaying the explosions that could be used in puzzles just as you said.

I actually really like the plot of SBR2... as a synopsis. I do enjoy cartoon-y or mascot series tackling darker or more serious villains and topics, but I feel like this would have worked a lot better in one of the older Bomberman timelines. SBR in general really does not seem to get the appeal of Bomberman. I do wish we could get more of Bombergirl internationally, especially as possible single player adventures or even anime or manga spin-offs

1:49 thanks to include me? That's unexpected to once again my name to be immortalized as the follow-up to A Bomberman Journey. Even though me hosting isn't the full story. Because I know that the stream that you were going to do as a send off to SBRO and I know that it's going to be boring in some way I own premium and I know Rife didn't have it but he did bought TurboExpress and a PC-Engine GT, but that's another conundrum. But there was only one problem I didn't have internet at the time because i recently moved into a new place and we're waiting for the connection to moved in so what I have to do is pack up my Switch and go back where I previously lived that it isn't that far at least one of my neighbors that were friends of ours let me borrow the internet that is extremely nice and now I have to wait until Rife give me the green light to hosts the server and do some battles there and for me it feels the most heroic thing I ever did. but it's not that at all ends well because I want to arrive early home to avoid suspicion that I was out I needed to wrap up the hosting around 11:30pm Eastern time at least there was another individual who could also host, Moonbeam. "also thank you Moonbeam for taking the rest". I arrived home safely and that's that. At least they kind of put somewhere in the Bomberman community and it's all thanks to you. I wanted to make mention that I did watch Jetters by your recommendation. And it’s sincerely such a well put together show. It’s probably one of the single best shows that tackle the themes of grief and mourning out there. I think early on it didn’t occur to me that it was going to be all that special, but by the time the credits rolled on episode 52, I had determined that I watched one of the best anime I’ve ever seen. I sincerely think it deserves a spot among the greats. So thank you for sharing your bomberman history, if there’s one thing I checked out among his catalogue, I’m glad it was the Jetters anime.

I was genuinely blindsided by how bad SBR2 was. Because Konami barely advertised the thing, I didn't know what to expect from the story mode other than the fact that it was going to be more open-ended. I thought "Oh cool, it'll be interesting to see them try something other than the usual 2D Bomberman campaign for once." I was also happy to see that they had preserved Battle 64 from SBRO, easily one of the best twists on online Bomberman. It was the dullest, grindiest slog I have ever experienced in a Bomberman game. I quit after reaching the second world (Out of three... really?) because I knew it wasn't going to get any better. This may be one of the worst mainline Bomberman games; at least Act Zero still progressed like a traditional Bomberman under its gritty exterior. And that's not even getting into how much worse it looks than the previous game, or the fact that you couldn't even freely choose online multiplayer modes until an update, something THE PREVIOUS GAME HAD. The first SBR had its fair share of warts, but for being the first new mainline Bomberman with a campaign in years, it was fairly good. SBR2, though... What the fuck happened? Everything from the gameplay to the graphics and UI is an objective downgrade. Surely these weren't the same developers as the first one, I refuse to believe it.

i bought the first SBR game for the Switch around the time it was new. Was very disappointed with the online system and the connectivity issues. Frankly, I only played it for a short time before getting bored of it. I thought about buying the 2nd one just in case it might be better, but thanks to this video, i know i did not miss out on anything. There is a fan-game that is worlds better than these 2 titles. I enjoyed Bomberman 64 waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more than the first SBR one. Bomberman Hero is also more enjoyable and with better music.

I actually bought R2 solely to play the 64 Mode i had a lot of fun with in R Online. Don't really care about the Campaign, couldn't really warm up with it. But online is pretty fun and thankfully more so with the weird schedules being removed. That was a terrible idea, how am i supposed to time-manage that midweek?

I had minimal hope that _Amazing Bomberman_ would be mentioned when clicking on this, but it was still hope. See there's this mobile game Konami released (for Apple Arcade) long after the original _A Bomberman Journey,_ and it's kind of like Bomberman meets Tetris Effect. You basically just play timed score-based battles with computers or (if you can find any) online players, but the thing that makes it unique is its musical aesthetic. Instead of stages there are sound tracks, all the matches are synced around the musical score, the battle rules and the sound effects vary between the tracks, and the floor projects an entire music video. During the leadup to the release of SBR2, I asked RifeXD (who had just posted a vid giving his thoughts so far on R2) while he was livestreaming if a vid about ABM was realistic. Take my memory with a grain of salt, but his response was something like 'there wouldn't really be anything to talk about because it's literally just 4P battles and every (competent) Bomberman already has that.' I was saddened because Amazing Bomberman had a place in my heart as one of the only two Bomberman titles I've ever played, and if the 8-hour Bomberman documentarist wasn't touching the franchise's dinky ahh 🍎Arcade fling, I couldn't imagine anyone else would. Yeah, *gameplaywise* ABM brings nothing new to the table, but you're ignoring the point is the _vibes._ It's weird for this aspect to be overlooked by the guy who inserted 100 "listen to this banger track" moments in his opus. And yeah, I grew tired of the app within a month, but I probably experienced more enjoyment in that time than I (personally) (probably) would if I bought the game featured in this video.

10:50 That's true, but only for the "Regular" regulations. The editor has 2 regulations, "Free" and "Regular", and "Free" can only be used in private matches, "Regular" can be used in both private and Graded (public, with random people). However, there is another difference between these and that's your limitations to what you can place. "Free" is a lot more... well, free, since the people you will be playing with will be open to play whatever monstrosity of a stage you have built, since you must either already know them or they had to join your lobby. But Graded matches must be more fair and easy since the attackers must have a good chance too, it's been made more limited. Some differences are controlling what each individual soft block drops, areas around the spawn locations where it is prohibited to place objects, changing the location and other parameters of Ellon Gates and the way the limit to the number of total objects in handled. You could argue that it's unreasonable to put these limitations at Graded Matches, but I at least want to say that it is less limitationg in private matches and that some of the limitations you are talking about are "Regular" specifically I think I milked it too much

Crucified characters in anime and put Red Bomber from B Daman and lots of people were surprised to learn that B Daman is a Bomberman spinoff from a Bomberman spinoff, there is a bit of market for that series and could fit pretty well on either Netflix or Crunchyroll.
