Hey Eric, always picked the Meinl, it's high hollow sound on the macho, the lp and Moperc we're closer. The Lp macho was more natural not hollow or flat, and the Hembra was perfect. Moperc's macho was great tone with a flatter sound. Of course the Moperc Hembra was deep, rich and lovely.

Great demo of all 3 BONGOS ! You provided a lot of information and a very clear and precipice comparison which displayed the good and bad points on all 3 Bongos. In my case l have a set of LP Zebra-wood Bongos which my wife purchased in 1967 for my 21st birthday and a set of Moperc Brazilian Mahogany wood Custom Cubano Bongos. The LP Bongos have Manito Heads and the Moperc Bongos have the original heads provided by them. My experience in playing the LP Bongos sound great in a smaller musical venue like accompanying a guitarist with a vocalist etc. l use the Moperc’s with a proper mic, nicely complements a larger musical venue. All in all in, it really comes down to taste of the percussionist, style, and capability’s who determines which bongos work best for them. If l had to choose one set of bongos from the the 3 you showcase, my vote would be the Moperc Bongos hands down !

Another great vid..thx. I still like my Cuban bongos the best. I visited Santiago de Cuba in the 90's for their carnaval. While there I ran into a fellow who made bongos(long story). When I got back to the states I had the hardware replaced and took my old mule skins from my congas and mounted them on the bongos. It has little overtones, great dry cutting sound and amazingly loud for a smallish bongo. But don't we all love our drums no matter what brand?

I have the MoPerc cubano style maple bongo and they are great! Like Francis told me ... The maple bongos are a bit heavy but sound great. The crispy slaps and powerful tones of maple are hard to beat .. and he's right!! Thanks for the blind tasting video!!!

I've heard Daniel Díaz playing a version of a classic tune (don't remember which one exactly) with a Galaxy Giovanni Hidalgo, Remo skins. Simply awesome! It's not the arrow; it's the indian.

I have the Giovanni Galaxy bongos (with Remo Nuskin heads), and they sound much better than all the bongos demonstrated here. True story!

I prefer the LP. I think the smaller hembra on the LP pairs better with the macho. Perhaps I’m also influenced by the fact that most of the music I listened to and the performances I watched were throughout my life were played on LP bongo. The Meinel and Moperc are beautiful and also sound great. I just prefer the LP.

Loved this. You can't find pro bongos (or any other high end gear) in my town so I rely very much on videos like this in order to make decisions on purchases.

Eric, thanks for a great demo. They all have their strengths and weaknesses. But I have to be honest ... I don't believe that it's truly an apples-to-apples comparison since the Mopercs are twice as expensive as the others. But do the Mopercs really sound twice as good as the others? I'm not sure...

I would love to have heard a high end Gon Bops bongo in the comparison. The Moperc is the clear winner here but at double the retail price of the others in the video, Mopercs should sound better 😂

Would love to have heard GonBops and JCR in the mix. Just for the heck of it. I have a Gen 2 LP bongo set from 35 years ago with the original skins! I’ve used them occasionally but not frequently. The macho has always been perfect, but the hembra always had disconcerting overtones. This week I took the hembra skin off and conditioned it on both sides, all exposed surfaces, with coconut oil. It now sounds awesome.

Hi Eric, may I say that I'd shortly opt for the sound of your Meinl bongos? Even if I would prefer them with a crispier sound. I feel like that your Moperc bongos (really nice) are a bit short of heavy notes. What would happen inverting the quality of the skins of the two? (I mean a thicker skin on Moperc and a thinner on Meinl). My best regards, Franco (Italy) and thank you indeed for all your work.

Great video Eric! Hey I was wondering, I have a 7 1/2”macho-8” hembra bongos, were can I get syntethic skins for that setup if available?
