To have a frase as a reference point is always key. Si bien a solo is a free expression you always need some sort of like you said “stepping stone” to come back to, or to trancicion to. I’m a timbalero, but I use A LOT of bongo frases in my solos, I even have a routine that I apply a lot in solos that’s all bongo frases, and yes Carl is a monster in the bongos, he’s shown me so many toques de bongo to apply to the timbal jaja I copy so much from him… Saludos desde california!!!

Very nice Eric great explanation bro. Just bring up your hembra just a hair up and then your fingers will pop a bit better. Just a hair not much like a quarter turn and you will see the difference. Love bongos man. I play congas to but my instrument is the bongos. Charlie Selina’s was my teacher. If you don’t know who he is. He Was the bongo player for Bobby Rodriguez y la compañia he played bongos and timbales at the same time. Woodstock album you can hear him. Great album

Multi - timekeeping especially when playing cowbell, enhancing congas or drum kit, soloing. A lot depends on style of music and other instruments. It's very versatile
