My best friend, Robert, got me into AVGN back in 2007. He was OBSESSED. Well, his favorite Nintendo game to talk (incessantly) about was "A Boy and His Blob". He was beyond excited for the Wii remake. Anyway, Robert passed suddenly in 2016, and it's never been the same watching these without having a discussion with him about them afterwards. I'm watching twice for you, Rob. Miss you buddy

Loved this game as a kid. I always preferred the quirkier interesting games like this and Maniac Mansion. I used to play with my whole family so we all helped out like a team, even my grandpa offered advice while we played Nintendo. As a family team it was cool because you could get stuck and then dad would take over and figure the hard stuff out. I remember this being my grandpa's favorite game and my grandma's favorite was Maniac Mansion. They always figured out how to do the puzzles. Miss those guys. RIP

As a child, I saw this game at a friend's when I was visiting him. But, unfortunately, he never let me play it ( Later I often fantasized about how I would play it, years later I forgot about it. I used the Game Genie to explore hidden areas of a lot of NES games, including this one. In this game in particular, there are hidden chambers that were never meant to be part of the game. Inside a bunch of rooms, the programmers hid a poem about the blob turning into a shape to help a kid. You have to fall through the floor in the right place to reach it, but if you don't have the game genie then you just die. I've looked it up but nobody seems to know about this!

the remake of this game was legitimately one of the hidden gems on Wiiware. Great game, somehow it did the 'companion' mechanic better than so many games later on

Idea for a Nerd episode: Maybe the nerd finally got the Atari 5200 to work and play some Games on it.

A follow-up to that episode wouldn't be too bad. Maybe he could even talk a bit about the 7800 as well, just to show how much Atari learned from their mistakes.

12:12 Hey, that's the background from the second mission in "Stealth", which was an F117 game on nes. I bet if you look in to it, it's either the same publisher, developer, or perhaps just an artist. But that's definitely from Stealth. The likelihood of it just looking so precisely similar seems too small to me. There's gotta be some connective tissue. [EDIT]: I just looked it up and I was right. Stealth was published by Activision and the artist on both games was Jesse Kapili. So they are indeed the same graphics.

Something the Nerd didn't mention was that if you travel to Blobolonia, you have the option of coming back to Earth, you're not stuck there. Like if you got there and realize you didn't buy the vitamins or you rocket there by mistake, you can come back. That's a very cool feature.

I remember renting this from Randall's in Katy TX (back when grocery stores had movie/game rentals inside). No manual, of course, but I had so much fun figuring out which jellybeans did what. I remember getting as far as riding the rocket before I had to return it to avoid the astronomical late fees. It's still one of the most memorable NES games from my childhood. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
