In Angry Video Game Nerd episode 208, The Nerd opens up a can of worms and takes a gross out look back at the Earthworm Jim series! Often hailed as classics, The Nerd looks to find out if the original Sega Genesis games (or the 3D one for N64) still hold up, or, if they were simply a flash in the pan of the 90s.
Written and Directed by James Rolfe
/ cinemassacre
Edited by Sean O'Rourke
/ moviedumpster
/ orourkejsean
Gameplay by James and Sean
Note: The music in Earthworm Jim level 2 is actually Night on Bald Mountain, not Ride of the Valkyries.

Music/sfx, design, and even difficult gameplay (if you enjoy a challenge) are all beyond stellar, which is the only flaw people seem to give this (and a hilariously disappointing ending.) The game is progressively hard because it chooses to be, not because of bad controls from the beginning like Top Gun. It's like people complaining about Resident Evil tank controls. Believe it or not, it just takes practice, but everything is consistent and clear so you can improve, which is why people still do speedruns and aren't complaining about broken controls, but with Earthworm Jim everyone knows how to platform so there's even less of a learning curve but more of a difficulty curve, which more games should have.

The Neverhood series should totally be next, it's so creative and made by the same guy that did Earthworm Jim. Nerverhood is a 90's PC/PS1 Adventure game made of clay, Skullmonkeys is a platformer made of clay. They're as bizzare as Earthworm Jim and very very creative, holds up very well due to the clay animation.

FUN FACT: In the underwater level of EWJ when you're in the glass bubble thing, you can position the little nozzle on the left side of the orb (it's that little stick on the left side) against specific spots during the sequence that will refill your air timer...so you dont HAVE to rush it as much as you'd think.

I was born in 1989. My Dad was a gamer. I’ve been a gamer for over 15 years, thanks DAD[r.i.p] From the ages of 2yrs old-10yrs old I was blessed to have grown up with having the TurboGrafx-16, The NES, The SNES, The Gameboy Color, Nintendo DS, The Nintendo64, PS1, PS2, The PSP, PS3, PS4[now in 2023] Nintendo Switch, & eventually I’ll get the PS5. I NEVER had a Sega Genesis but my older cousin by 3yrs, Markus, had one & he would let me play all the games he had when I would spend the night at his house. Sega Genesis had some incredible games & graphics in the 90’s, The Sonic The Hedgehog franchise is my favorite, EarthWorm Jim, Street Fighter 2[I had this game on my SNES, but it was also cool on the Genesis] Aladdin, NHL, Alisia Dragoon, Magical Hat Taruruuto-Kun, Altered Beast, Mega Bomberman, Lakers versus Celtics and the NBA Playoffs, Mega Man: The Wily Wars, Splatterhouse 3 & so many more games.
