With the millions of tourists coming to Thailand there’s bound to be a few bad apples…. All in all most are good people not causing any problems…. But have 1 incident and it makes news….. if this is the “big news” incident of the day… considering this was a tourist destination as well…. I would say Thailand was a pretty quiet place…

I could not possibly agree more. I see it all the time with foreigners, from all nations, behaving in a totally alien manner, that I am more than confident they wouldn't have in their home country. It's definitely a phenomena, and causes frequent issues.

There is definitely more to this story as far as the Thai taxi drivers are concerned. Why are THREE drivers suddenly engaged in a brawl with foreign tourists? The Phuket taxi mafia is out of control. Of course, Iranians aren't allowed to drink back home and then have a good hold time abroad.

Seriously, go out in England one evening. You'll probably see more public brawling, stabbings, urinating and general drunken unruly behavior in one night than you'll see in a month here. And btw, don't wear a nice watch when you go out, even in the daytime.

Seems you are painting with a pretty broad brush here. Millions of people go through Thailand every year with the overwhelming majority causing no incident. There will always be incidents due to misunderstandings, alcohol, jerks, aholes, etc, etc.

Most Visitors to Thailand behave in a very respectful manner, and then there are some whose hometown is missing an idiot, but they are in a tiny minority. Behave in Thailand as the vast majority of all Thailands millions of visitors do, and wear a helmet when riding a bike.

Hi Benjamin, I enjoy your take on these incidents. People here in Los Angeles have also lost their brains....there is no longer any patience, no stopping for stop signs, beligerant tourists and homeless folks and a general disregard for others. Besides that it's very expensive to live in L.A., thus my home of 45 years goes up for sale today. Already bought 9 Rai and I'll move to Phang Nga in a few months. It's unhinged everywhere. Hopefully I can enjoy retirement in peace although my land is one and a half hours drive to the scene of that incident about the Iranians/Taxi.

I have been coming to thailand for over 25 years and i have never seen any triuble but lately in the last few years since covid it seems to be mainly countries iranians and russians in phuket and iranians and indians in pattaya .

Personally, I'd not lean on someone's car even though it wouldn't harm it in any way. But may as well add that to the list of "things to NOT do in Thailand" - especially for taxis if they're sensitive about it. Tourists: DO NOT GET PHYSICAL... duh.

Bad behavior by foreigners, maybe especially tourists, doesn't happen only in Thailand, although it might happen a bit more in Thailand for reasons that I don't go into. People step out of the airport and go nuts. For reasons that I also don't want to go into. Maybe the only mild exceptions are Japanese and the Thai who are not mostly culturally Chinese. I think modern Thai tourist traps such as Phuket make it worse, and foreigners tend to act even worse there too. Have no idea practically what to do about it. Sounds to me like the police did a good job. Mike

These antics happen frequently in the southern coastal resorts of Spain. The Brits are notorious for doing stupid stuff even on the planes going there. Considering the amount of tourists Thailand gets there's not much of a problem here, whereas in Spain the locals organise protests cos they're sick & tired of night after night having gangs of tourists roaming around shouting, screaming and behaving badly....

There have been many incidents in a particular area in Patong, maybe it’s that these people are intoxicated and not use to drinking alcohol as in their own countries maybe they cannot use alcohol?

A clown on holiday can easily become an ass clown. That said, years ago I had Tha8 taxi drivers do everything from shutting their meters off, mid trip and demanding huge 1500bht fares to just deciding to kick me out mid trip, demanding full fares.. don't use taxis like I used to.

Reading the comments everybody seems to be ganging up on the big bad Iranian tourists. Who knows maybe the collective is right in this example and the tourists really were at fault. It wouldn't shock me, but I think someone needs to point out the issue with the taxi mafia running Phuket also. It's out of control, and they are *very* aggressive and not nice either! They think they are running things and are extremely rude and aggressive. All in all it takes two to tango, so perhaps bad elements from one side happened to run into bad elements from the other side.

In many western countries families have trouble affording groceries right now, so who are all these tourists at this time going everywhere and causing over tourism? Someone should study the ones getting into trouble or otherwise engaging in anti social behavior or disrespecting local culture. I know the answer may be largely arrogant and entitled mostly males. And countries should address their alcohol districts better.

Long Story Short ( STOP BLAMING FOREIGNERS ) You all think every Thai is Nice. You"re WRONG.. Taxi drivers are the Worst people. Certainly not Choirboy's. Aggressive in every way. Driving, Mafia Thugs and have an ALL ABOUT ME attitude. SNATCH a necklace, Who does that? A THIEF. How about he goes to jail like they did in BKK to the ladyboy for 3 years. I know the area of this alteration and they now Have Blocked any Parking Dominated by Taxis On Mall Property. I have hardly seen a Taxi person that was Jai Dee in driving or not thinking they are ENTITLED to all parking spots. Phuket is not BKK but it is a Race Track for Taxis. They clearly have to much given to them as they park the entire beach roads ON The Sidewalks Painted Red & White. Creating a traffic Jam. Please say the last time you have seen a Taxi get a Ticket.

Not ALL taxi drivers are slime - you'll only really meet those who work the tourist areas. It's been years since I had a bad taxi dude, so long long I can't remember, but then I know a fair amount of Thai and don't often go to tourist centers.

Have you ever seen a news article of foreigners behaving badly in the us or UK! No! Absolutely not. When you look at a side view mirror in a car it says " objects in the mirror are closer than they appear" . Sometimes we want to pick and choose how to feel about certain issues based on where we come from but it's apples and oranges. For instance I have never had a problem with anyone in Thailand or all of Asia except one altercation with a Thai security guard who just wanted to use the police to separate me from my things. In Barcelona I've been in something like 14-16 fights mostly with foreigners. Many of them living there from their countries. Not tourists. The us the UK and Spain are wildly dangerous places I guess other than if you come from a place like Boise or some small town in Arkansas or Kentucky where nothing ever happens
