A Bridge in Peril - The Final Days of the Wagon Wheel Bridge

On the morning of February 22, 2016, an ice jam upstream of the Wagon Wheel Bridge in Boone County, IA broke and surged downstream, severely damaging the west pier of the bridge and putting the bridge at a high risk of collapsing at any time. The county has announced its plans to demolish the 105 year old bridge ASAP.

The old girl gave it her all and served the area proudly for nigh 100+ years; and she went out like a lady, giving us a final bow for her years of service. Some today say while in the area, swear they can still see it around the bend. And they can, in their minds forever. Farewell Wagon Wheel Bridge, but not so to the now immortalized memories.
