Salutes of various Great Lakes vessels over the last 20 years. Includes several ships that have since been scrapped or are no longer steam powered.

Let's hope the Arthur Anderson never gets scrapped she's a historic vessel ..she sailed with the Edmund Fitzgerald on her last voyage in 1975 before the Fitzgerald went down with all hands

I mean the William A. Irving is still alive in Duluth as a museum. Hopefully the same happens to the Anderson. And also alpena, I love alpena.

3:17 so long American Victory. You shall be missed. I remember when my parents would take me to Duluth when I was young, and sometimes got to watch this ship go by.

I saw her come through extremely heavy fog shortly before they layed her up around 2008. Could barely see anything and they had their fog horns going every couple of minutes. Pretty eerie sight

Your actually correct: Edmund Fitzgerald and Edward L Ryerson have the same horns (at least until Fitzgerald sank of course)

@@TheReal_Faxzy the fitzgerald was the lead ship of her class of two fitzgerald class lake freighters while the American Fortitude was one of 8 triple a class freighter (same as arthur m anderson and William Clay Ford

I did get an update: after researching, it’s the same horn the CBJ have had over their 24 year tenure: a Kahlenburg S-203C Similar to the American Fortitude, however very inconsistent in terms of sound from game to game due to age (similar to the fortitude) Your welcome

It’s the last ship on the Lakes with a connection to the Big Fitz herself. Scrapping her is akin to Cunard White Star scrapping Olympic in 1935. It’s not scrapping a ship: it’s killing history.

The ocean going salties seem to have kind of high pitched whistles. The lakers all low pitched and powerful!

Sad to see ships not that very old scrapped. In the old days lakers would sail for decades, sometimes up to 90+ years like the old EM Ford!

I remember everyone of the greatlakes frieghters on here. I grew up on the St. Clair river. My Father sailed in the late 50s too early 60s on The Interlake Steamship Co boats. My favorite frieghter is the E. G. Grace.

Those were two Leslie-300 steam horns and two Leslie 200 air horns. Fun fact: The Leslie 200's were used on old diesel locomotives and the all famous PRR-GG1 electric locomotive. I heard truckers put them on their rigs too!

@@Daniel-vx3cf Probably because the Edmund Fitzgerald Horn Videos are of the Edward L Ryerson, since there is no known recordings of the Fitzgeralds horn. The Ryerson and Fitzgerald Had the same horns

Oh the Arthur M Anderson still sails the waters Captain Cooper is gone now, in '93 he died anothe skipper charts her the ship he loved so dearly legend of cooper and Fitzgerald didn't die, when ever the storms erect the lakes with their vengeance the spirit of Cooper remains in command

As of now we have to pray for Ryerson and Anderson, they’re both in permanent layup now. ;c Roger has many years to come for now.

@Fr8ers come again? Anderson returned to service last year, ryerson is probably going to go back into service because of all of the new stuff they did to it before lay up, might be turned into a self unloader idk

7:49 Herbert C Jackson used to be a steamship from 2012 to 2017, no way it appears they've turned Herbert C Jackson into a diesel either the horn, the engine or something. I believe Herbert C Jackson is still a steamship they've just remodeled it.

Yeah. Imagine being out on the water in a rowboat in Duluth, on a foggy day. You hear THAT, look up to see Jackson sailing at you at full speed out of the fog. I’d nope out of there faster than an Olympic rowing team.

Unfortunately their isnt. The Jackman was the only one that had the duel horn Nathan horn. More bad news she was scrapped in 2019
