she has no knowledge of Afghanistan. first tajiks are sunni majority with shia minority. hazara are shia majority with sunni minority. pashtuns are sunni majority with shia minority. and it's pashai not pashani lol she lacks basic knowledge of Afghanistan. and there no such a thing as herati ethnic group because heratis are called herati because they live in herat and they are mix of pashtun tajiks qizilbash and aimaq

Good lecture but she got many specifics wrong, like the couple stoned to death in the north of Afghanistan wasn’t stoned by Taliban but by local villagers. The woman with her nose chopped off was also not a Taliban job. These are a couple of examples but she needs to correct her specifics. I am from Afghanistan and I am doing my masters degree in history and it includes the last 300 years of Afghanistan!

The negative comments below are unbelievable, given that more than likely those criticizing Ms. Sajoo have probably not engaged in any meaningful efforts for reconstruction in Afghanistan. It's easy to criticize but much harder to actually take action and do something for the greater good. Keep up the good work Ms. Sajoo. :-)

It's important to advocate mutual understanding. Our lives become richer if we spend time with and make an effort to understand people groups who believe and live differently than we do--and vice versa. We appreciate you taking the time to watch this video, and we hope that you'll join us at future round table discussions, seminars, and public forums on the subject.

I don't know anything about Afghanistan but from reading the comments below. I will have to assume this is not accurate perhaps the perspective? It's better to get information from people in the region to understand history. I don't pretend to believe the US actually cares about other countries other than the west. I saw a video before about India being friends to Afghanistan I assume they will assist Afghanistan. I assume gradually Afghanistan will find its way.

What a terrible lecture. Reagan never said the mujahideen were the "moral equivalent of the Founding Fathers." He said that of the Contra rebels in Nicaragua. Reagan never invited the Taliban into the White House. Easiest way to check? THERE'S A WOMAN IN THE PICTURE. He was meeting with one of the factions of the Mujahideen. This faction later lost to the Taliban in the Afghan Civil War. Also most Tajiks are Sunni, only a minority are Twelver Shia.

She was very mistaken when she said the talaban's Islamic law was "special" and no one else follows it. She was wrong 4 years ago. She is wrong today. Please see the new Islamic state, they would agree with the talaban. The talaban is more main stream then liberal westerners can accept. (Note the main problem in Afghanistan is Islam).

The men in the picture with Reagan are not Taliban fighters but afghan freedom fighters. The taliban did not exist when this picture was taken. The quote under the picture has nothing to do with these men either. He was refering to Nicaraguan fighters. Huge blunder by this so called proffessor

@saxonthedog99

Her information seems biased and a bit spotty. Her interest in the women of Afghanistan and how they are treated seems to take front and center -- and she has every right to do so, a very important subject all its own. That particular part of the Afghan story is dismal, and heart breaking. Still when she discusses recent history (and this is all about recent history, nothing very far back in this) her failures begin: The claim that Pakistan just simply distributed U.S. cash during the 80s to whomever they wanted is wrong; the CIA ran the funding, sometimes through Pakistan, yes, but they were the ones calling the shots, not Pakistani intelligence (ISI). The real indicator that she doesn't know much though is her uncritical posting of the picture of Reagan in the White House with a number of Afghan-style dressed men with the caption "Reagan Meets with the Taliban" (1985). The Taliban didn't even come into existence until 1994 when the group was founded by Mullah Omar (who did fight the Soviets during the 80s). Such a blatant mistake, or perhaps intentional deception, calls into question much of what she has to say.

Thanks for the info. I am not trying to be disrespectful or anything. I think the Islamic community at large views "their" women as property and expendable. I think the Islamic view on all of humanity is very dangerous and we are too fast to put on our soft gloves when dealing with them. This view is something we cannot fix, the western world that is. They need to amend themselves to a word that is not in their vocabulary, i.e. tolerance.

.. in your head. They were a group of orphans growing up in madarsaas (as correctly mentioned here) By the time they grew old enough to act, all they had was there Madarsaa education and no other education. These people had the sense of justice and they proved it (That's how they got into power btw in the first place) However their approach was wrong (NOT EXTREME) please know that in Islam either it is right or wrong NOT moderate or extreme. No where does it say in Sharia that women cannot..

She should have given this lecture to The US congress and white house in 2012. The recent Taliban’s victory in Afghanistan showed that her warnings were not only unheeded, but probably unheard by policy makers especially the US white house. Or more likely, they do not care at all what happens to the Afghans. I’m sure they were forewarned by others. A better solution might have been to partition as she mentioned to the pashtun south and the north + west. Too late for that now. It’s back again to civil war.

.. the beginning. If US had clean intentions then they would have provided funds for reconstruction of the war torn country and not sanctions right ? So please when informing people, please have a clean mind and a pure heart. Today we have so many refugees from Afghanistan, But even if all of Afghanistan was to come to Pakistan WE WILL ALWAYS WELCOME THEM WITH OPEN ARMS as we did during the 1980s Afghans and Muslims are always welcome, But as far NATO is concerned they should GET LOST !! So..

... may they rest in peace, are long gone. World would have been a better place I suppose if you Europeans had never entered Americas, Australia and South Africa. In these Europeans Christianity is all gone, yet the hatred of Islam lives on. Sad. I mean what other reason do you have for spreading one sided stories ? I hope you have read this all. Peace.

That is how they pay for all the things they are doing in Afghanistan obviously don't they ? I mean I don't agree with the Taliban knowing the Sharia law myself. But I have lived in Pakistan since 1992 to 2007. I have seen how much atrocities US has committed. So please stop pretending US or Nato is doing any good. Afghans DONT like INVADERS. So please LEAVE our lands. Now to tell the picture of Taliban and explain it with an unbiased mind picture this...
