As someone who's been skating since the late 80's, heelflips were always around for my era. Once you learned kickflips, heelflips were next. Just because they weren't that doccumented in videos doesn't mean they weren't prevelant in the streets. Also, I had to chuckle at you never hearing of Armando Barajas and Pat Brennan, but I guess they were before your time. They were both way ahead of their time, but Armando Barajas hands down had the best part in 1281. He was also doing nollie backfoot impossibles in that one, which was so far ahead of it's time it was other wordly. He did one down some stairs in a line at that. That guy is seriously a slept on GOAT.

You see this is one of the things that makes this channel awesome. A huge portion of skaters probably don't care where heelflips came from, just that neen Williams does them and that their switch is likely better than their regular. Chanita was Neen Williams of the 90s. As a really good regular heelflipper, being good at them doesn't mean regular frontside ones are easier. They still suck

Please keep doing the history videos, I love them and Rad Rat has pretty much stopped doing them. I had Celebrity Tropical Fish on VHS when it came out and Pat Brennan was clearly ahead of many other skaters of the time, his part was rewound over and over. I wonder what happened to him, I don't remember seeing him in anything else, he kind of disappeared. Also good to see Ray Barbee was on the cutting edge, and stayed there with his later parts.

Pat Brennen (RIP) was awesome. People should check out his part in Celebrity Tropical Fish if they get a moment, I used to watch it daily back in the day. Have a look at the Adam McNatt and Curtis McCann sections in that video too, they're really good. Great history lesson Ben, hope you do more of these.

Oddly I had heard of Pat Brennan as his slick bottomed deck was one of my favourite boards that I had back then . I think around 1992. Heel flips were certainly a thing in the UK in the very early 90s as I did them rather than kickflips as I found them easier.

Jason lees part in video days is epic. Not to mention guy and mark! I absolutely love these trips down memory lane. Seeing some of the tech being done in the very early 90s is so rad. It blew my mind when things were going bigger and bigger that guys were doing such tech stuff way before the huge gaps/stairs/rails. Man Rick just makes me tingle. Haha. His style and skill are timeless and his enthusiasm is contagious. Definitely canadian. I heard Carroll say in an interview that he was trying noseslide maybe nollie heel out, but it kept just doing that weird heel flip out of a noseslide haha so he let it do it’s thing. I wonder if anyone else has done that? Friend of mine accidentally nollie flipped out of a Nose grind once. Board just went off the ledge and flipped haha. Got my first session in last week and snapped a nose haha. When you guys getting more boards!?

U ever dig into “late kickflips” or “late heelflips”? (Back foot kickflips). That could get weird. There was a brief era in the early 90s when dudes like Willy Santos were getting weird with that shit. U could throw late shuv its in there too.... that might’ve been the Big Pants Small Wheels era. It got ridiculous with like half pressure flip late flips.... but Sean Sheffey late shuv it’s are worth a look.
