I love the jigmaster. Simple dependable strong. For throwing big baits bushings rule! Spool control works amazingly well.

Squidder 145 or 140 are my GO-TO reel for bait fishing. I use 146 for jigs and heavy plugs from shore.

I use a Squidder on my anchor rod for King fishing off the pier. It's on an 11' Daiwa Eliminator rod and it will absolutely sling the piss out of an 8 oz anchor! Actually my whole family uses them on our anchor rods. Then my brother uses a Jigmaster on his fighting rod. Both of those reels are great reels and they are super reliable tanks!

How do you not have backlash with your jig master? I throw mine and stop at 50 yards. Using 40# mono

I have a penn jigmaster 500 that looks like the third one you cast from my grandpa. Isn’t casting any suggestions?
@watchyourlip32096 ай бұрын
Yes. I’d try oiling it. If you’re not comfortable doing so, see how much it costs to take it to someone at a tackle shop to get it moving again. Hopefully it’s just a little corrosion I. The gears

To be fair, lower gear ratio means higher torque.

Not 100 yards on an 8’ boat rod dude…most can’t cast 100 with an actual 13 or 14’ surf rod w/ bait and much faster reels

Wrong.. measured it out before bro. Took the combo to a football field once and was putting it through the uprights from the opposite goal line… 🤷♂️

That is a "conventional" or revolving spool reel, an "open face" is a spinning reel, a push button Zebco is a closed face spinning reel sometimes called a spin cast reel and level winds have the shuttle to lay the line. The vast majority of those are what we call bait casters with just a whole bunch of anecdotal variety in reel design falling outside these categories. Penn had a level wind conventional with a revolving screw type bar the line layed across on top for example. Hope I'm not being too particular with definition of terms but if you're up to writing a "how to" you can step up in this regard I guess. For extra credit why is it that the Squidder and Penn Mariner have that anti reverse delete lever there on the side plate?
@dougwebster88689 ай бұрын
The reel with the level wind bar is the Penn 350. It was the first of over 50 Penn reels I have. It is also my favorite reel of all time. It may have been the first level wind that the level wind was disconnected during the cast. If the 350 had the light weight spool and that "little lever" you mentioned and the takedown side plate it would be absolutely perfect.
@randywelsh26929 ай бұрын
@@dougwebster8868 I would add the correction of the design flaw where the little plastic nipple to metal connection failing renders the level wind useless. That said once thumbing the line on becomes habit the level wind function really serves no purpose. Any guess on why the little lever on Squidder and Mariner? I wondered the purpose for years and then had an opportunity to ask an expert Penn representative on a long range trip once. My choice for perfect would be the Jigmaster 500, not that I would fish a stock one but the endless aftermarket upgrades available speak to the perfection of it's basic design I think. Nothing like brick red side plates hiding stainless, magnets, carbon fiber and narrowed, high speed silliness. :)

@@dougwebster8868 PENN 155L comes with an aluminum spool which fits the 350. I only paid like $30 for a used one just for the spool to use on my 350.
