I was a kid in the 60's. The Beatles changed everything. In 1962 popular music was just love songs. 5 years later The Beatles wrote songs about traffic wardens and fire engines that were "clean machines." They transformed not just music but youth culture. They moved the world forward from post World War 2 drabness to the beginnings of what we have today. They were a phenomenon. They weren't just musicians. They were a catalyst for progress socially. We are unlikely to see their like again.

It's lovely that you checked out their story! I grew up in the 70s but I loved the Beatles from the beginning. I first knew of them through the Beatles cartoons which were still playing on tv then even though the band broke up years before - when I was a little older I realised they were a real band and totally adored them and got into them in a big way with a couple of friends at school, but of course with no internet then we relied on 2nd hand records and a once a week radio show that covered their story. Loved them ever since and that first period of discovering their songs and story is a special memory. Hope you'll get to watch their movies, they really capture the era and the music is great, of course. Like you, I loved the cover of the With the Beatles album. What I also love is in the Uk, the Beatles didn't want to rip off their fans and wouldn't put the singles on their UK albums, so you always got new material when you got an album.

I grew up on these guys, since I was born the year they came together, 1957..My favorite song from them, (which seems almost ridiculous to pick just one) would have to be "A Day in the Life." off of Sgt. Peppers. However, they had SO many!..They basically took off after The Ed Sullivan appearance, in Feb. of '64 (only a few months after Kennedy was killed, so the nation needed it!)...They officially broke up on my 13th birthday, 1970...In the span of about 6/7 yrs., they produced 12 albums, and wrote over 200 songs, (with very few being dogs) and many making the charts..I always say, "I remember when they landed on this planet."..That's how earth shattering it was, for this 7 yr. old!..I immediately wanted to grow my hair long, and bugged my mother to buy me Beatle boots (which was a thing, at the time.) Never got them, but that was cool..My older brother and sister were buying all their 45 singles, which I believe were .50cents back then..We had them all, and then the albums, eventually..Set the stage for what was to come with the whole British Invasion, and our own American explosion over here, as well..Best time for music, hands down..Nothing will ever compare to it..Not just Rock and Pop, but R&B and Soul too, with Motown, and Stax, and so much more..It was musical heaven, that seemed to have no end...Enjoy your journey..Hope you keep going!..It's a deep, deep well!..Btw, it never occurred to me, but the day their 2nd album "With The Beatles" came out was the day JFK was shot.

A few corrections: *She Loves You and From Me To You actually weren't on Please Please Me, they were separate singles released around the same time. *Just about every album had at least one single, just not always released in the UK or at the same time as the album's release. *We Can Work It Out was not released on Rubber Soul, it was a separate single. *Paperback Writer was not released on Revolver, it was another separate single. *Last note: That "Paul McCartney died in 1966" joke was actually a conspiracy theory back then. There was a rumour that a man was killed in a car wreck and the people near the crash recognised McCartney's body. After that incident, People started to notice Paul looked rather different. His teeth were straighter than normal and his hair line and ears seemed a bit off. The theory goes that, rather than just finding a new bassist and announcing his death, the remainder of The Beatles hosted a Paul McCartney look-alike contest and the winner replaced him in secrecy under the same name. Post 1966 Paul McCartney is sometimes referred to as Faul. This of course was a bunch of bull. Paul was indeed in a car wreck but he came out alive. His teeth looked different because he chipped a tooth and had to get it fixed. The chipped tooth unfixed can be seen in their promo clips for Paperback Writer and Rain. As for the hair and ears, the band were all changing their look and it's simple adolescence that changed his face very subtly. Nevertheless, the band heard about this theory and decided to make some fun out of it, hiding references in their songs, albums, and artwork for the nuts to decipher.

I hope you join the Beatles fans family. Sure we love other music, but for us the Beatles are supreme. As Beatles fans, we can be divided on politics and religion but the Beatles always bring us back together. I suggest that the Beatles be played exclusively in the USA and Americans will soon love one another again.

The "1" album is a great listen because most of their singles weren't actually on their albums. It was considered odd to put a single that had been released on the album, at least in Britain. Also, the 'Past Masters' albums features a lot of those singles that didn't make it to the top of the charts, including amazing cuts like "Rain". The upcoming documentary "Get Back" is going to be amazing, as well. Director Peter Jackson took all 350 hours of footage shot during the recording of the 'Let it Bet' album and recut it, enhancing all the video and remixing the audio. The original documentary was criticize for being too negative, and this new version is supposed to show more of the fun they actually had. Legends is almost an understatement. Great that you looked into them and you I'm jealous that you get to listen to these songs for the first time, even though they never get old, even after 50+ years.

Unknown gem: The night The Beatles played the Ed Sullivan show for the first time, not a single crime was logged in throughout the entire country. Not a single crime, think about how amazing a stat like that is.

Neither "From Me to You" or "She Loves You" were ever on the "Please, Please Me" album, they were singles only.

Another great gem: Due to the complexity of their later music, George Martin needed to create new ways of recording them. Because of this, the multi-track system was created. Their music was only one of the many ways that they led all other bands.

Abby Road is my favorite. I Me Mine is my current favorite song. A Hard Day's Night is a great movie, one of my favorites. Also look for the rooftop performance on KZbin. It's great. The End is a beautiful song.

Not a bad short brief of the band, some stuff missed out. Brian Epstein was not a music journalist, ever. The Beatles did not tour with Tony Sheridan. They recorded as backing band for him, on his recordings for Polydor Records and Bert Kaemfert was the record producer. The Beatles had some of their own recordings with him as well, singing and playing. Tony Sheridan was a singer/ guitarist from Norwich England and was on the same Hamburg night club scene as The Beatles, they weren't on tour together they knew each other as performance colleagues in Hamburg. The Beatles did 2-4 months at a time working in the nightclubs as a live performing band playing for as long as 7/8 hours a night! as did quite a lot of other bands from England, mostly from Liverpool and the North West of England.

I'm young in all I can go by is documentaries and biographies in hard copy or the net. I can listen to older people I'm a family about The Beatles and others but there's going to be subjective. So what about this was not accurate? This is not some sort of test I'm playing really just being honest that I like to learn and you made a comment so I'm asking you what part of this shall we not really take serious I?

@@choice12ozborne If you want accurate information then read Mark Lewisohn. He's in the midst of a biography trilogy. It's taking a long time because he's essentially interviewing everyone that ever heard a Beatle sneeze..

Yes, they DID release a lot in December. The record companies intentionally wanted something released that kids could get for Christmas.

The little joke the narrator said "Paul died in '66" was referencing the rumor that became a conspiracy in '66 that Paul had been killed in a traffic accident and a look a like substitute secretly took his place. There are a lot of "clues" to prove Paul died placed on the albums.

@@jnagarya519 Well, we do know he didn't die and the Beatles didn't start the rumor but it was a very interesting trip for the time.

I’d recommend the documentary miniseries, Anthology. It turned me into a Beatlemaniac. I was familiar with them before seeing it, but didn’t actively listen until seeing it.
