you are very good. I ve been trying to find a video with an overview of the opera, to help me discover essentials and their history, so I can plunge in other parts that might interest me more. Thank you.

You're awesome! I used to regret not taking music history in college. Now, I think I am getting it through your videos.

Dido and Aeneas is in English. "When I Am Laid In Earth" is a well known aria from it.

Copeland’s opera is good, too!!! It’s called, “The Tender Land” and “Stomp Your Foot” is the most well-known piece from that. ☺️

This is a great series, and you did some awesome research, but you should look up the correct pronunciations of vocabulary and composer names. Weber is pronounced Veber, like Wagner. Recitative, opera buffo, Rameau...it just made me cringe a little! I struggle with French pronunciation myself, but if you are putting in so much effort to produce well-researched videos that are so engaging, you should use proper pronunciations. It allows people who may not have formal music training to participate in discussion and appreciation of opera and classical music with the right vocab.

I agree.. the pronunciations were horrid!!!!!!! It takes away from your credibility!

If you can't put clickable links in the video it's probably because of the end screen. You can't have both enabled at the same time.

Hey, I was watching the first part of your history video. And you already mentioned there, that Beethoven is popular for opera. But he only have writen 1 opera. And I have to say, that here in germany Beethoven isn't that famous for operaworks. Is that so different in the place where you live?

Well, thank you. I can understand why your pronunciation of Italian, German and French is awful but English? The e in Arne is not pronounced. After 40 years of listening to NPR announcers mangling the name of the French composer as Deb-yu-sey, could I put in a plea for De-bussy, with a short e and the stress on the u.

Awesome... really??? Saying the most intense, patriotic composers of his time (his image was even captured on their monetary notes) as Verdi being 'FRENCH'..... really. What else false information are you feeding the public. Also check the correct pronunciation of Bayreuth.. Delete me if you dare.

im a rocker and follow mostly classical rock like pink floyd , procol harem, the moody blues etc and believe it or not those bands have been influenced by classical music. im also a big fan of verdi, puccini, mascagni, rossini etc and love italian opera more so than german, or english . im a spaniard therefore understand some italian and i notice you have a hatred of italian opera from the tone of your video.

BEST THING YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR AUDIENCE, PPPPPLLLLLLEEEEEAAAASSSSEEEE LEARN TO PRONOUNCE WORDS CORRECTLY. YOU COME OFF AS A "NOVICE" WHO DOESN'T KNOW WHAT SHE IS TALKING ABOUT. AND BY THE WAY, YOU IDENTIFIED VERDI AS A FRENCHMAN. HOW COULD YOU?? IF THERE EVER WAS AN ITALIAN, IT WAS VERDI!!!
