This video makes me reminisce about how 11 year old me was browsing the internet after working in class and stumbled upon satori's theme from th11. Since then I've been wondering around the community for 8 years now, looking at how something so big has started because a man decided to share his college project, I love this saga, and the friends and memories it brought me.

Same feelings here, despite in my case my love forming for the series fairly recently. TBH even if this video had gotten like 3 views or something, the experiences I've had getting to interact with different parts of the community and getting to meet new people has been really awesome and made it all worth every second. - Rin

This video is something a lot different than I've normally worked on in the past, especially in scope, and has been a huge undertaking. I hope the time and effort has paid off into an enjoyable video for people to learn even just a little about this amazing series and the legacy it has created. Despite the runtime I definitely just scratch the surface of the cool information you could gain from this series, and I encourage you to use this as a launching point, find something you want to dive deeper into and sink into it! I'd love to hear feedback on this video, and appreciate all the help I have gotten from various parts of the Touhou community during my work on this video. After so many months of work, I hope it was all worth the long wait. - Rin EDIT: Hey all, it was brought to my attention in a comment as well as on discord that I was misinformed about Touhou AoCF did not in fact get rollback netcode in its most recent update. I should have done more due diligence on double checking and rushed to make an adjustment in the scripting process, which blew up in my face. I can explain some names being off, but I can't explain major errors and I'm extremely sorry for the confusion on that part of the video. I have clipped it however it will take a bit before it changes in the video itself.

Really appreciate this kind of video, it’s always a lot of fun to hear new people reacting to and immersing themselves in touhou. It’s high quality and well researched (as far as I’ve gotten, as it’s also clearly in depth), as well as nicely scripted. One tiny thing is that Reimu’s family name is Hakurei and not Harukei haha, but even with so much that’s all I can really find for feedback

30:55 Holy shit, that was the EXACT SAME WAY I FOUND OUT ABOUT TOUHOU. I was in the computer lab back when I was 12 years old, found this same black MIDI with a good friend of mine and didn't think much of it. I looked up more Synthesia videos which led me to other songs like Necrofantasia and Night of Nights. The black MIDI stuff led me down the OtoMAD rabbit hole which was a whole nother can of worms. A few years later I heard about something called Touhou, and a song called UN Owen was Her, thought it sounded like Death Waltz, played Touhou 14 for the first time and everything just clicked together

you consistently say "harukei" instead of "hakurei" but you pronounce cirnos name, which is commonly mispronounced due to zun doing a bad job converting it into roman letters, just fine. that is honestly hilarious. edit: oh hey i see you used footage from some of the touhou jam games, nice to see that here

So disregarding the things you got wrong I cant help but notice that pcb only lasted for about 20sec in this hour long video and it kinda seems like you are actively avoiding the pcb cast through out the video so i am curious on what you think about pcb.
@ThunderClub Жыл бұрын
I think PCB is just fine honestly! There's definitely a few more things I could have said for sure (introduction of visible hitbox being a biggie, Yukaris debut, and Yuyuko being based off a poet from the Heian Period immediately coming to mind, if I were to redo the video these things wouldn't have been omitted) - I think in terms of making the video it also got a bit squished between talking about EOSD which was a huge deal for the series being the first windows game, best selling, tons of stuff surrounding it, and Imperishable Night which also had a mountain of things to go over including probably the wrong call of waiting until then to mention Alice was in PCB and why. Not to say PCB isn't important of course. Admittedly there is a bit of bias on what characters I physically showed more, but there was no effort to avoid showing any cast or anything like that, when talking about Soku I show a competitive Youmu mirror match, and I mention Chen more than once for examples regarding PCB, and I think outside of Letty every PCB character was shown at some point visually in the video. Anyway, sorry for the novel haha, and thank you for watching!

Dunno if this makes me a weirdo (almost certainly) but I find that the part of the franchise I keep coming back to is the almost slice-of-life anachronism of it, puts me in mind of Spice and Wolf (a series of manga I similarly like) where problems are not resolved through flashy violence (talking more about the mangas than the games here) so much as through personal interactions and individual expertise. Every facet of a character, from manner of speech to fashion choices, subtly establish aspects of their personality and role within Gensokyo. A good example is how their day-to-day clothing is depicted, especially in the official mangas; Reimu wears a casual and rather spartan shrine maiden dress, speaking to both her implied poverty/frugality and the pragmatic consideration that she likely prefers lighter, combat-practical clothing, while Marisa's western-style dress is both elaborate and makes her stick out like a sore thumb with Gensokyo's majority-eastern culture and aesthetic, very fitting for a flashy and eccentric devil-may-care type who never quite fits into the established order of things.

To this day, I'm still hoping for a Hisoutensoku port to consoles or Steam with proper controller support, I can't get the Switch Pro Controller to work with the fan rework 'Soku Rewired'. I did try one of the Danmaku games and I did beat it. I'm not very good at the genre so despite my hours on it, I didn't really feel the want to go back to another game. Not that I didn't enjoy it either. In other words, I'm more interested in Touhou's fighting games, in terms of the library of games.

@@HyperVanilo That's good. I like how this Fandom doesn't gatekeep every little thing like other notorious fandoms out there. Goes to show how civilized we are.
@HyperVanilo11 ай бұрын
@@blockeontheleafeon The gatekeeping is more to the canon part, again it's more lean to a suggestion, if you actually want to invest your time on learning the lore then go ahead, we have an 18 years old wiki, if not then just stay away and enjoy the fanworks but please don't be an asshole in a lore discussion.

I kinda wanted to chime in concerning the insanity of the Yukkuri community from a nipponiki's vantage point. It's kinda insane how prevalent the yukkuri video format has become for jp youtube. To the point that my parents in their mid 60's knows of Reimu and Marisa due to the overwhelming and also alarming spread of yukkuri yt channels. Generations that aren't even knowledgeable of the touhou franchise or even knew of the existence of such a franchise are in contact with it due to these types of content. Which is largely due to how easy it is to produce videos in this format. Step 1: pick a topic to focus on Step 2: research (or hire people to do the research) Step 3: hire people to write the script and edit said script into a video using the easy to use yukkuri movie maker Step 4: profit Now one of the reasons why this format is so consumable as info dump content is thanks to the 2 man script instead of a singular script. Either Reimu or Marissa acting as the informant and the other as the student or reciever of the info. The student role usually asking the right questions that the audience typically would ask, helping with making the information highly digestable. But this also means that misinformation and poorly researched content is rampant within this little corner of youtube. There are tons of notable yukkuri channels that go beyond the fast content route and established themselves as great sources of info. Some notable ones are 俺の歴史ch(My history Ch) who caters to history geeks and students alike, his channel has been goibg strong for so long that he can reference and link to older vids of his for further research and input to a historical event, giving the viewer text book levels of dense info on a historical topic. Another notable one is 変な生きものch(wierd animal ch), where this channel originated as an yukkuri Reimu and Marissa but adopted using vocaloid and created their own characters as their mascot, he's established as one of the goto source for all things regarding animals, plants and lifeforms. Who's also an advocate for proper education on owning pets and means to interacting with wildlife. Yukkuri videos is generally an intriguing off shoot of the touhou community that branched into its own behemoth and likely would be a great case study of thesis topic imo

I honestly stopped watching yukkuri content when I moved abroad. I found the highly overproduced German and English content that covered similar topics a bit more appealing.
@tasogarerubica Жыл бұрын
@@SanzuRiver yeah that's understandable. The quality level of content from JP KZbin is surprisingly low compared to the west. There are outliers, but my guess is it's largely due to the difference in the surplus of amateur and professionals in video editing.

@@tasogarerubica It's so hard for me to find content I enjoy now in Japanese after consuming so much good foreign content. 女声釣り type content or art is all I watch anymore 😭
@tasogarerubica Жыл бұрын
@@SanzuRiver tbh, majority of the content I watch on KZbin is eng with a dash of JP and majority of the JP ones are either illustrator live streams, top shelf yukkuri like ゆっくりまちゃ or ゆっくり地理学, and one JP anime reviewer トーヤマトール who's generally has a high ceiling to theory crafting while being humble about it. Hmm maybe other than those are really niche channels who are either extreme hobbyist or otakus of a certain topic or fandom. Oh though I did come across a good job channel recently. It's a channel owned by 佐渡島庸平, a pretty prominent manga editor who's quite active in JP mass media. Thanks to his experience and connection to the manga industry, he's able to invite a lot of industry peeps who are rarely seen in the public.

You have no idea how much I love this video, I've been a Touhou fan since 2009, I remember clear as day finding IOSYS' Cirno's perfect math class and thinking it was an off branch of Vocaloid, then thinking IOSYS was the name of the game till days later I learned what Touhou was, I remember my days at this one anime forum putting so many Touhou pics i would find in photobucket in my gallery, it feels so damn nostalgic but also so brand new I stopped following Touhou stuff in general when I was around 16-17 but it always had a space in my heart, and slowly trying to catch up with it again I managed to find this video that reminded me every bit of what I loved from it, not only the games, but the communitty and history we got from it Tysm for this video :> Edit: I just realized what my yt name is haha, I had this account since the early 2010's and never changed it, try and guess who my favorite characters were

A fan game req for me Touhou: Lost Branch of Legend aka Touhou Slay the Spire Though it does a lot of things different then StS that make it stand out. Just for perspective I have 250 hours in StS (maybe 400 if we include the Downfall mod) but 350 in Lost branch that's how hooked I am on the game.
