I was 16 in 1969. I remember being at the convention in London and we were so excited because we were told we'd never grow old. My friends and I said 'just think we'll never reach middle age!' (Which was positively ancient to us teenagers) people left that convention and sold their homes, quit their jobs, cashed in insurances etc. We really believed it? Why wouldn't we? We trusted the organization. When 1975 came and went everyone just felt so deflated.

SagieBob, I am an ex JW and I can tell you the definition that the WT gives the word apostate is a big fat lie. They say an apostate is someone who leaves the WT and speak twisted things about God and the WT. Actually, an apostate is someone who forsakes (Quits) their religion, cause, or party. That has nothing to do with speaking twisted things. In reality, the WT speaks twisted things.

I became a JW when I was 16, left in the year 2000. I remember being told as I walked out, that Armageddon was coming that year and that I would be destroyed. 10 mins before midnight I braced myself for my destruction, I was in my early 30s then. John they just came to my house last week again why are the Jehovah Witnesses pursuing me? It just seems like out of nowhere. I had to turn them away and just tell them not to come back. So whether you agree or disagree with my mathematical results that's not my point. It makes me sad to think of the broken promises my mother clung to, even right up to her death in 1998. I remember her very clearly saying over and over again the day before she passed away "But I stayed alive till 75". It made me cry then and it still does now. Anyone who tries to say the claim was not made is a bald face liar. I was there and I know what happened. Even on her literal death bed, my mom kept struggling to understand what had happened to her and why nothing that was promised came to pass. After reading something like this in one of their publications during one of the meetings it opened my eyes. I knew these people in the congregation to not lift a finger if they didn’t have permission from an elder, So it was crazy to read that the witnesses of the time were in expectation of 1975 with out consent from the society. The scriptures you quoted in Deut. <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="1100">18:20</a>-22 were the ones I remember reading while at the Ministry School. I opened up The Aid to Bible Understanding and immediately spotted that scripture. It literally jumped out at me. My thoughts shot back to all the failed prophesies from the Jehovah’s Witnesses and it really got me to questioning their claim as God’s spokesperson. At 71, I remember way more than many of the witnesses today. I heard the accounts from my mother and grandmother. I had a lot of the old literature, and I remembered firsthand the fear that gripped many of us in 1975. It was the beginning to the veil being lifted.

I'm so devastated. I've been crying for a week now. I tried to talk to my mother and tell her about how JWs are wrong. She refuses to listen; she says that I am listening to apostates. I said that I have not left Jehovah at all. She said that I have to go back to the meetings and get well with Jehovah's organization, because right now, I've left Jehovah completely. Your mother will not listen to the things you tell her. She can't. She is to deeply connected to that BS. The one person you can save is ..... you. Look ahead and claim the life in freedom that is there waiting for you. Leave your mother be as she wishes to. You are not to take her out of jw. But you can go. I know it hurts, i kow it's hard. OMG! ROTF! the abdominal flex (preparing to stand), tingling sensation (light-headed from standing up), and mental note (the meeting is half over. Soon the end will come!) I just had when reading your comment was the same I had every week during the ministry school as the speaker stated the exact same closing phrase... And of course upon completion of the song and returning to my seat from the bathroom (oh yeah! water fountain too!) I remembered another mental note I usually told myself (OH SHIT! My KM isn't in my bag! I left my KM at home! NO! Now I either leave now like it was premeditated to help back up what I tell someone later if anyone asked as to what happened that night which was so important that I had to leave, or do I clutch my bible for the next 45 min and embarrassingly lean over the shoulder of the brother/sister next to me and follow along while looking up every scripture for both of us to read in exchange for sharing... UGH... almost like the same "Oh Shit!" moment to be at the Sunday Watchtower study and realize 1) your watchtower was still in its brown sleeve and unopened/studied 2) Wrong issue of Watchtower in your bag and cant show everyone that I actually did prepare this week 3) no watchtower in my bag because I left all the watchtowers I had, including my personal copy, at some laundry mat the morning before during early morning (or street witnessing) service which wouldn't have occurred had it still been in its brown paper sleeve... and isn't the reason to be here right now is to cover this part of the Watchtower (thoroughly and have read aloud every word in a self righteous tone) anyway? why do I need to go over this twice. I'd be more inclined to study regularly if they just asked the questions like on abbreviated meetings when the Circuit Overseer visits... ugh! --- I then turn to the brother/sister next to me and thank them for having an extra (unplaced copy) of the watchtower with that weekend's lesson. Thank you for another well researched and presented video. I was born in 1963 and grew up in "the truth". As a child, thinking that you would never grow old like others around you warps your perceptions. I was told, no need for braces to fix my teeth because Armageddon is coming. From the WT and talks, quit school, sell your house, get married because if you die at Armageddon, when you are resurrected you cannot have children. Anybody who grew up in this knows the trauma of fear. I got baptized at 10 because I wanted to be "a friend of Jehovah's" and see my dead father. Such a triggering video. I remember the 1974 district convention, the final speaker, Br. Art Humphreys saying, "who knows where we will be next year... not here.. this will all be gone... see you after Armageddon". The fact that the leaders backpedaled and started blaming the "enthusiastic" is unconscionable. The fact that original texts have been changed too speaks to the lies and deceit.

Bye! Bye! Watchtower that happen to me in the 60’ I was studying with them and started to go out from door to door. One day my teacher told me that in 1975 the Armageddon will begin. I really scare I went baptized what naive i was 16 years old when I open my eyes I lost the scare and walk out. Until now all the scandals in the end of 90’ a Hispanic speaking sister accused publicly that she was raped in Bethel and a sister told to not speak because jehova will be mad 😠. Anyway the sister present charges and the TV 📺 show a protest in front of watchtower and the organization speaker deny everything and the attorneys were in charge. I do not know the results regarding the case. Dams cult demons hypocrites murders ex witnesses are committed suicide and others died because they reject blood transfusions.😡

This is my favorite topic to research, because I find it so reassuring that the cult is simply a bunch of smoke and mirrors, not divinely inspired by any stretch of the imagination. When the old programming tries to resurface in the form of floating anxiety, these failed predictions remind me that it’s all a lie. This cult is so destructive. I was only four in 1975, but my parents (third gen jws on my dads side) took this very seriously, even to the point of holding me back from attending kindergarden to not have me in school when the end came. So they even then thought that the end had only delayed. I was in for thirty years, and have had eighteen years of freedom. I remember it well, but also the quotation no man knows the day or hour. I am now 64. I was 13 in 1969. What is unforgivable is the fact that when it didn't happen the WTBS denied that it had said it. We all make mistakes but to lie that they had said it is treacherous. My parents were sure I wouldn’t get to kindergarten due to the advent of Armageddon. I have a granddaughter about to enter middle school. I sat, mouth agape, for the Watchtower study when they introduced the “new light” explaining their newly made up definition of the word “generation”. No one batted an eye. Well, except me. It’s laughable to me now, but I was pretty shook by the mindless acceptance I witnessed. They literally think Jehovah intentionally gives them info in dribs and drabs to test them. I'm not nor never have been a JW but my 2 older brothers are. They lived at Bethel in NY in the 70's. As a 9 year old child, they would preach to me in a closed door room to indoctrinate me and my sister but it never worked. The new light , light getting brighter, better understanding...excuse really pisses me off! The use Proverbs ( ONE scripture) as an excuse for being wrong, changing or flip flopping. That scripture is totally taken out of context and twisted! When you read the whole chapter Jesus talks about the opposite! How the instruction he gives is good instruction! And that he would never let his people stumble! Its talking about the righteous and the path they are on ...the path of light. And the unrighteous being on the path of darkness. And how it will be more and more apparent in the time of the end what path people are on...due to their conduct and way of life. It has nothing to do with gradual understanding.

Hi Lloyd, great video ! I can still remember the two JW ringing the bell in our house in 1973 (in Switzerland) and talking to my mum, with the sale's motto: " the end is near". That was the selling point, every other religion got it wrong, "we got it right". So she became a JW, and being kids, we were fed with the brain-washing studies until I was 16. Somehow I always had a doubt about the claims they were trying to make you believe, but being a good kid, I "followed" duly all the studies until I had the age to decide about what religion I'm going to pursue. Needless to say, I stepped away from day 1! I would be interested to know if you could do two vlogs: 1) the "Genesis" of the JW in 19th century compared to a multitudes of new religions that has popped up in the USA at the same period. I mean, the birth place of the religions is in the Middle-East, but the "true" Christians suddenly became active in the USA 1800 years later ! Explain that... 2) It occurs to me that a lot of JW are diagnosed with depression, especially adults that have been JW all their lives ( brought up by parents JW ). Obviously during the 9 years studying, I knew a lot of other kids that were in the same situation, and 99% of them followed through. Now adults, I, as a fact knows that a large number are facing psychological problems.

I was born at the start of the 80's & told the same, Armageddon was months / weeks away. I thought to myself, phew, l'll never have to go to high school (it was an intimidating place for JW kids....plus utterly pointless getting a worldly education when my future would constitute surviving the end & becoming a submissive paradise wife, who walks around in a skirt admiring fruit & animals with a couple of well presented & very well behaved perfect children)...but, half way through my inevitable high school years, my mum told me she thought she'd also never get to high school before Armageddon! I'm in my 50's now, realizing that I was robbed of opportunities to get an advanced education, realizing I was completely indoctrinated by this religion and unbalanced view of life and now realizing that the WT was completely Wrong about 1914 and "This Generation". When I saw the new "Overlapping Generation" interpretation, I knew in that moment something was very Wrong. That then sent me on my quest to research and discover the truth about the truth. While I can't let go of my belief in the gospel message I have greatly encouraged my daughters and others to get a good education. And since I'll need to work 'till I'm 70 I'm now going to school myself to learn coding & design, trying to pull it together before I'm too old and it's too late !

I can remember being home in Aust. in 1999 seeing my parents [I always went to one Sunday meeting with them to make them happy, I had been faded then for nearly 15 years & still had a very good relationship with all the jw family] anyway, the visiting speaker was pointing his finger into the audience saying in a over excited hyper voice - "this time next year we'll be through the great tribulation brothers". I had no idea what he was talking about & said to the parents back home at lunch, what ever happened to 1975 ? dad shrugged his shoulders & the mother says - well, its a lot closer now then isn't it. Oh how I wish I could go back in time, I knew nothing much then, until I was forced to do intense research of this religion [CULT] that I was born & baptised into at 15 for the very first time in my life, only because I stumbled across by complete chance in feb.16. the ARC. Then I asked my very elderly parents about it, then they & the rest of the family went into complete shut down mode, & I have been completely cut from all & any communication with the family ever since & are now treated as dead. The ARC & the child abuse issue's have became my chosen subject & now I am a activist after 30 odd years of living a jw free life.

The false 1975 prediction had very terrible, terrible, effects on some JWs. I remember in our circuit here in Australia, there was a zealous brother who was well known by many even outside the circuit. He lived in a town not far from where I lived. After the 1975 prediction failed and the reality set in, this brother was so overwhelmed, he kept saying to other brothers “but they said the end was going to come in 1975.” He was told to let it go but he could not. It affected him so much that he dug a huge hole in the ground in his back yard filled it with old car tyres. He lit the tyres waited till it was a ball of flames and jumped in. This was a horrific way to die. Very, very, sad as this brother had put all his faith in the prediction by Fred Franz, and when it failed, he had nothing to live for. Many of the brothers and sisters judged this man harshly and justified their own faith, many gossiped about his lack of faith in the organisation. The Organisation and the individual leadership is blood guilty for going far beyond the scriptures and causing horrific damage to Christs sheep. No one of the JW's cares to remember this Brother.

What a heartbreaking story. The whole smoke and mirrors dishonesty around the 1975 fiasco showed Watchtower for the con men they are. The language they used teased and tantalized JWs into believing 75 was the end while giving them an out by claiming "1975 was only a marker year" and even piling the blame on the rank and file when the date came and went. This organization has too much control over their adherents' lives and minds and stories like this one illustrate the dangers of following this group.

My father was a teenager living and working as a bethelite at Brooklyn Bethel in the early 1970’s. We all know that Watchtower was seriously ramping up Their propaganda about the year 1975 as being the conclusive and definitive end and the year of Armageddon. My father passed away before I could ask him what life was like at Brooklyn Bethel during that time. My entire immediate family faded from the organization about 20 years ago but I didn’t start really diving deep into the dark history of Watchtower and their false teachings until after my father passed away. As someone who was a bethelite and living at Watchtower HQ during the early 1970’s, it would have been really amazing to get a first hand account as to how the governing body acted during that time period and I also would have really appreciated listening to my fathers stories as to how sensationalized their talks were at this time knowing that they believed Armageddon was literally right around the corner. When it didn’t come to pass, I also would have liked to know what kind of lie they told all of the young Bethelites why Armageddon didn’t happen.

A cousin got married in 1974. I attended the wedding in his Kingdom Hall in SE London. I recall we had a conversation after his wedding telling me that Armageddon was coming in 1975. My reply was we can continue with this discussion in 1976 and he can tell what went wrong. I can't remember exactly what he said, only that it was some feeble excuse to do with a miscalculation of the biblical dates.... Just incredible :-)

To the argument that some witnesses use, that these publications came out before they were named Jehovah's witnesses, I like to point out that they wouldn't have books, DVD's, and walls dedicated in Bethel, to glorifying their history from Russell till now. The name change did not mean a new religion, especially in light of the fact that many of the doctrines created as bible students, continued and have continued long into their new name as Jehovah's witnesses.

Actually start with Genesis chapters 1-11. Those foundation stories underlie Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Those fail. So does any iteration of Yahweh (Hebrew) = Jehovah (English) = Allah (Arabic) belief. IT the same god re the god of Adam, Noah, Abraham, and Moses. No Yahweh and it all falls apart. Example....see creative day 3 where ALL kinds of plants are made but ZERO animals, not even single celled animals. Instead, the rock record of the earth shows plants and animals developing at the same time in ecosystems. No matter how you spin the length of a "creative day" there is NO portion of the rock record where ALL kinds of plants are formed from single celled to pine trees and roses, yet during the same time period there are ZERO animal types in existence. In a collection of stories written by men....this type of huge gaffe is understandable, but it does indicate it was NOT influenced in large part by an all knowing creator god. To get to it you have to read past a really awful argument as to why allegedly...demons are real, a threat, but can be avoided if you look to the WT org for advice.

Thank you for reviewing all these failed predictions so well and including your citations in detail. I’m saving this video for potential encounters with other close encounters with receptive or questioning JWs and with those who may study the Bible with them that I become aware of. I’m actually thinking of sharing this with my dad, who’s faded for different reasons than their dogma. Sometimes, I think that he’s still attached to their belief system while being disillusioned by their behaviors and organization. I hope this helps pull the scales away from his eyes about the utter hogwash this false prophet (by biblical definition) has been spewing for over a century.

If you consult that Watchtower library - that statement in the 1 Jan 1989 article has been changed, it now reads: "He was also laying a foundation for a work that would be completed in our day. " (instead of "in our millennium").

These old books are legend to me. Thanks for sharing this text and showing the covers! It explains so much about what my elders believed and why. So sad, they were deceived.

I forgot one thing about those awful 1975 days until I was reading through an old note book ....it said "Watchtower Bible & Tract Society never believed the "end" would come in 1975 because ............ WT Society was still playing/investing in the stock market in December 1975 !" .....I never checked it but it should still be in the records ....
