Fun fact:Mozart was writing his Lacrimosa on his deathbed but he died after he wrote the first 8 bars of it and then it was finished off by one of his pupils

Well, the movie is highly fictional with the exception of the music. It a very clever take but entirely implausible since (for instance) the one who darkly commissioned the Requim was NOT Salieri.. In fact, that man has been identified and was a mediocre piano player and amateur composer who wanted to take credit for having written something so presumably lovely and had the money to do so as well. Again, extremely clever to make that person be Salieri. Also Salieri went completely mad by the end of his life and ANY claim he made at that time forward should simply be ignored. Mozart did have an infectious laugh apparently and I am very pleased that that was used so well in 'Amadeus'. Though, as I am to understand it, there was only made just one mention of his laugh by a contemporary and that is it. Superbly done. Perfectly cast. I love that movie. Thank you for reading. I wrote too much, I know :)

A lot of Pop musicians look up to Mozart for inspiration partly for his framboyant lifestyle and partly as a freelance musician they can relate to. In the 18th century composers had steady employment with an upperclass patron or a church as a choirmaster or an organist. Mozart hated being bossed around. There was no mention of Mozart's sons becoming well-known musicians. Bach had 3 sons who became famous, particularly the last 2.Hayden's influence on Mozart is undisputed. Another less frequently mentioned name who was a famous French composer and a violin virtuoso who influenced Mozart was (Le Chevalier) St. George (being half Black). During Mozart's visit to Paris they supposedly met and after listening to a piece by St George, Mozart wrote a famous Symphony Concertante with a difficult passage taken from a piece by St. George.

I would highly recommend a book called "the lives and times of the great composers" written by Michael Steen, it's an incredibly informative, and interesting book all about the lives of the great composers like Mozart, Beethoven, Haydn, Chopin, Liszt, Schubert etc. It's full of factual, sourced information about their lives. It also tells you abut things that happened at at the time like cultural changes and war. Very fascinating

Let's not forget the big conspiracy theory that Mozart might have joined the Freemasons in order to get support for his financial difficulties, but ended up being killed by them when he wanted to get away from them... That's why people think Mozart put so many masonic references in the Magic Flute and also wrote masonic funeral music!! Just thought I'd mentioned it...

But during Mozart's lifetime, Salzburg did NOT belong to Austria, and the term "Austria" at that time had a different meaning. Legally, only the modern states of Upper and Lower Austria formed the Archduchy of Austria. All the other Habsburg dominions, such as Tyrol, Carinthia or Breisgau in the then Further Austria (which is today part of Switzerland, France and Baden-Württemberg), remained legally distinct estates within the Holy Roman Empire. The name of the Archduchy was often used to denote the Habsburgs (House Austria) and because of that, the entirety of the lands they ruled was referred to as "Austria" as well, but in legal terms, the different principalities remained distinct entities. It was only in 1804 and thus after Mozart's death that the Habsburgs legally united all their dominions into one state called "Austria", thus transferring the name of the Archduchy to the newly created Empire. One year later, in 1805, Salzburg became Austrian, in 1810 it became Bavarian and 1816 finally Austrian. While this video is not about politics, you started it, so I had to reply. ;-)
