Greetings Oscar. If you look around the web, flypress' tooling should have a collar/stopper that contacts with the ram and avoids the bottom of the tooling to touch the inside of the ram and eventually get stuck after intense work. The bottom of the tooling can brake the cast iron ram, mushroom and become stuck or damage components that connect the ram to the screw. Nice restoration, flypress are very useful tools in the shop (not just for forging). I have an "A" frame 12 ton press I use almost every day, I wish I had a 22 ton ... or 32 ton or ...

You will probably have found out by now, but pot should have a layer of fairly thick oil in the bottom of the main hole under the base of the threaded rod. This not only serves as a lubrication layer, but also acts as a kind of hydraulic ram to transmit the force.

I've seen people make a collar where it's the 2" stock and has a 1" hole. That way you can make tools out of 1" and it's much easier.

Yes defiantly easier, need to make myself a collar.

Yeah been working on it for a while. Think it’s a number 5 or 6 which may be a little light for what I need, I’ll have to see!

Hopefully at some point. I still haven’t got round to fixing the tooling as I really need to alter it. Don’t seem to find the time for these things at the moment, I want to get it done at some point though!

Did you sort the slop from the main screw to the ram? I had to get a new split nut machined for my press.
@oscarduck19204 жыл бұрын
It improved as I took it all apart and then could fine tune the pressure from the guides on the ram, which made it run smoother, but there is still a bit of slop on it which I need to sort out.

@@techronmattic5876 hey bud. The last couple of years has just been really busy and I’ve not had time for it. I bought a house which needed renovation and my business started doing quite well too, so there wasn’t much time. I keep meaning to get back to it at some point. I’ve been upgrading the workshop a lot recently and I’m planning a workshop tour vid at least. I’m quite active over on Instagram though. Feather forge All the best Andy

that was some work there oscar ,i think i might of made a sleeve out of that 50 mm so that you can put 3/4 bar that would sleeve in to the 50mm bar which would be permanent in the fly press with a grub screw on that to take all your new adaptions at 3/4 round ,if that makes sense ,my fly press is a big heavy one but the hole for tools isent 50mm ,without a power hammer your gonna knock yourself out making tools for it lol ,im not a blacksmith im just a welder that likes to mess about doing a bit of blacksmithing ,please use safety boots in workshop if youve never had anything fall and break your toes you will only do it the once lol i did it when i was an apprentice ,im never comftable in workshop without me boots on ,you can see round my workshop on my channel if you would like ,take care Ant from Wales by the way where are you in Britain .?

Thanks you the info Ant! I do need to get a collar made up for it, some of the others mentioned it. I’m up in Lancashire at the moment in one of the villages around Pendle hill.

You want to make a collar for the top of the punch where it goes into the rum to stop it from bottoming out in the top and mushrooming causing you not to be able to remove the punch
