Thank you very much sir, for the information on your video. I recently obtained a used and retired Denbeigh No 5 and it was serious need of attention after being left out of the seller's workshop for many years. Your lesson contributed to my restoring the old man. Very small difference between the Sweeny and the Denbeigh: the hard solid washer at the end of the screw is machined onto the shaft end of the Denbeigh where it goes into the ram and not a seperate entity. I had to make a spanner to release the lock nut as I nearly "cracked" my arm in trying to crack (as you put it) the nut with a pair of waterpump pliers. It was stuck solid and after treatment etc, a mallet on the spanner handle convinced the nut to let go Thank you again. Jon Pieters, Bathurst, Eastern Cape, South Africa

Hi Ian, I've got a Blocksidge and Sweeney fly press,I don't know what number it is but its pretty big, the lead screw is frozen in the body of the press and to compound the situation, it has no swinging arms. Any suggestions as to how I can free the lead screw? Can or should I heat either the casing holding the lead screw or the lead screw itself or is that a no no? Any suggestion would be appreciated. Cheers. I'm a novice at this, so assume nothing and I won't be offended by whatever you tell me, no matter how basic. I have soaked it in a product call Penetrene Oil with no joy. :0(

Hello, iv just bought a German fly press. its a 2 column model with approximately 30 tom capacity iv been told. the press has the same kind of gap that you are showing us in this video, do you have any experience with the German /European models that you can share with me? :) thank you froe a great video :D

Errata: it seems that somewhere and sometime during my press' past life a human lost or forgot to insert the round solid washer at the end of the screw as I cannot adjust the immediate action of the ram/swing. It keeps having a little gap above the ram on the screw of about 3mm. Think the holeless washer will rectify it.

I recently bought a Norton 2a fly press in wery good condition. However the tool holder is stuck, I have sprayed it with WD40 but no progress so far. The tool holder is round with no edges for a wrench to grab on.. any suggestions on how to get it loose?

A pipe wrench is what i have used in the past,movingit back & forth.Once i got it out enough to insert a prying tool,eg, screwdriver,start to pry whilst you rotate the holder. I used leather to protect theholder from the pipe wrench.Hope that helps if you havent alreadt tried that.

Finally got around to give the Norton som TLC.. toolholdet came loose quite easy with a big wrench and leather to protect the surface (it had a internal scratch that was binding an bit, sanded smooth). Made special wrenches for the spilt nut and locknut.. good as new now.. thanks for the instructions..
