So Indian skin colour actually ranges from pale white to dark black...but the British colonization actually led to brainwashing people into believing that white or fair is beautiful and dark is ugly..that somehow has been in people's heads for a long time now.. that's why India had a massive industry of skin lightening products. But thankfully now the government has worked towards it and the adverts promoting these products were actually asked to change their content and also the name of the products should not have the word 'fair' in it. But in India you will find a lot of fair people with green and blue eyes and darker people too.. it would also be stereotyping saying Indians are dark..or even brown... Thankyou for reacting to this song. it's a beautiful song and Nora Fateh is an amazing performer..we love it when people from outside India adapt to everything Indian 😊

Everything in the video was Indian including the location, background and the attire. The whole culture depicted here was Rajasthani culture (including the locations and dressing). Nothing was Moroccan except for Nora (to whom we have accepted as an Indian ❤️)...!

This is the ultimate break up/revenge song and honestly the beauty of it is the lyrics. Anyone who's been through an ugly break up would relate with it so hard. I used to be obsessed with the song when it had just come out. To answer something that you brought up, about the obsession with fair skin, it's actually mostly thanks to your ancestors who colonised us and discriminated against Indians based on their colour. I think for decades Indians were shamed for the dark colour of the skin and they started obsessing over being fairer. Of course there are other reasons also but this is a major one as well.

Yes, colorism is a huge problem in India, just like Africa and other countries the English had colonized. Lots of problems that we owe to our people, but colorism was left behind by the notion that light skin is inherently superior.

6:05 jupe there is very much racism in India. As long as someone is light skinned Indians consider them the be good looking no matter how that person looks. And light skinned actresses get a lot of films no matter how bad they act, many have reached the top by just being light skinned.Its very sad

Yes exactly. Most of Bollywood is racist and bigots. For popularity, they will mostly hire the fairest ones. Also if the actors come from a very wealthy background which is the case with most of these Bollywood actors who come from extremely elite backgrounds, then they are hired without any questions asked. They need not have any acting ability. It is the money and looks that sell in Bollywood.

I always enjoy your reactions. You make some very insightful observations, loaded with layers, I must say. Where shall we start? In the ancient times perhaps? Fairer complexions, meant wealth, status, royalty, education, privileged, didn't need to work; especially in the fields, like all the other poor peasants - naturally more desirable. Darker complexion (sunburned) - could be seen as invasions

Even in many rural Indian families, children are born fair skinned. One sibling can be very dark skinned, and the other very fair skinned from the same mother and father without having any British or European ancestry. Some even have blue eyes and blond hair.☺

Dude, you're wrong..what was depicted in the video was not a cultural thing, but an attempt to murderer by burning. The man betrayed her first, so her attempt to burn him was her plot of revenge. There is a huge difference between this and Sati(which now obviously is banned). Be sure to speak the right words next time😅
