I would like to sit in your beautiful yard and watch chickens all day. (I’ll bring my own lunch.). Ha! Thank you for your videos.

We often have morning coffee sat watching them, so chairs are available 🙂

Hahahaha I totally could do that too!

You wouldn’t be able to enjoy your lunch for long, chickens are some greedy little buggers 😎

I wrote in a few months ago asking about this, my 7 chicks I bought out of a strait run, turned out to be all roosters.. so this time I bought out of the pullet box, their 5 weeks old now, and by this video, looks like I might have one rooster out of this batch 🤔 Thanks for the info😉👍

So glad that it was useful 🙂. It can take a while for us to make videos that people ask for, but we do try!

love your channel..... we are on round 2 of one coop, then another, ISA's (2.5 years) Blue laced Wyandottes with Welsummers and Easter Eggers/Olive eggers 6 weeks.... so far hatchery has done a GREAT job of sending hens. But if I had a blue egg roo I sure would not mind.... we are RETIRED, this is our hobby...and you are GREAT!
@EnglishCountryLife3 жыл бұрын
That is awesome, well done. We are trying a few Welsummers for eggs this year
@bgtrev3 жыл бұрын
We have found with our Orpingtons that males have pale, whitish streaks in their down at the upper wing joints whereas females often have faint brown lines on their backs, also feather sexing works in certain breeds (but no so accurate in Orpingtons, for us anyway!). Our Super Harkos are so easy in comparison. I think all hens should lay either pink or blue eggs to make life easier!

Watching the chicks grow is fascinating! I started listening to the podcast and I think you mentioned having a few other breeds this year, you give such great information so I’ll be a little cheeky and ask if you’re planning a video on the new breeds you have?
@EnglishCountryLife3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ash, they will certainly put in an appearance but we haven't been filming their development. We will very likely add one or two Welsummers to the flock just for variety

@@EnglishCountryLife Looking forward to seeing their big debut :) I found your video on why you chose the Orpingtons, Legbars and Marans really interesting so was angling to see if you'd be sharing more wisdom on the newcomers!

Thank you another great video, with really useful information. This really helped me, out of my 4 buffs now 4 1/2 weeks old looks like I’ve got proper 50/50 2 of each.. one question if that’s okay, I’ve noticed you can still purchase fertile eggs, what is your recommended time span of year to purchase? For eggs to be incubated, until hopefully I get a broody buff.
@EnglishCountryLife3 жыл бұрын
Hi Donna, if you are using an incubator you can in theory hatch at any time. For us, because we like our birds outside as soon as possible, we prefer to hatch by September so that the chicks are fully feathered before the worst of the weather

Questiom...can the Cream legbars cross breed with Orpingtons? I'd like to get some but don't want crossbreeds...🤷♀️HELP?
@EnglishCountryLife Жыл бұрын
They absolutely can interbreed. The reason that we keep legbars is that legbar eggs are blue. Since we don't keep a Legbar cockerel we know that all the Orpington eggs are pure breed. We don't hatch the blue Legbar eggs.

@@EnglishCountryLife Great idea, Thank you...just don't want my Orpingtons to lose their bloodline, they are not common in my area...

@EnglishCountryLife3 жыл бұрын
We believe there are e cockerels b& one hen in the Legbars. Likely six hens & four cockerels in the Orpingtons. Probably. Maybe 😉

Luckily my wife has an gift she always seems to spot the cockerel for me a I always get it wrong until it’s apparent by the crow, I like the uncertainty 🥴
@EnglishCountryLife3 жыл бұрын
It depends on your view. I'm like you and like the uncertainty of it too. We just make a game of it guessing because we do grow them all to maturity anyway.

how did your chicks grow up realy fast
@EnglishCountryLife3 жыл бұрын
They are in reality very slow growing. Modern broilers grow to full size in 8 weeks 😲
