I was the one who shot the photo at the cathedral in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Thanks for your critique. You gave me a great insight. The pigeons on the photo are real, there's no photoshoped pigeons in or out, it was actually my assistant running towards a group of pigeons and the couple was looking at them and I liked it, and sure I agree, it would be more impacting if they were looking at each other :P It was a single frame and no generative fill.
@FStoppers9 ай бұрын
Wow that's pretty awesome! I wasn't convinced they were photoshopped in but Pye thought they were. Either way, super cool image and I'd love to see you edit it with the background just a touch darker. -P

If Pye doesn't belive me, I can send him the raw file :P I'll do it, for sure! I liked the idea of highlighting more the couple and darken the background. This is actually an old edit from 2020 I think and maybe back then I didn't thought of that.

1:01:00 I think the face/head and hand positionnare PERFECT as they are. They tell a story and exhibit emotion, which are crucial for good wedding photography. What you said is also a good variation that can be done after this photo, but it's also basic. The posing is just amazing

Thank you so much for your critique and your kind words :) I took the one with the couple in iceland! It was super windy on that day so yes that was how the dress flowed 🙂

Btw, I think the face/head and hand position are PERFECT as they are. They tell a story and exhibit emotion, which are crucial for good wedding photography. What he said is also a good variation that can be done after this photo, but it's also what everyone has. I wouldn't change a single thing nor as a wedding/elopement photographer, nor as a client. This would definitely be one of my top images if I were the bride 🙌🏾

Thanks for the critique! I took the one with the odd-shaped window. I agree that the dress isn't perfect, but to be honest, I never lay the dress perfectly because it adds a bit of realness to an image. To be honest, I'm not the biggest fan of generative fill / AI, but luckily I can do my stuff the way I want. But yeah, it was fun being a part of this, thanks again!

That first image looks way too phony. No authenticity.

Flower girl on the sofa; I assumed that this was showing the exhaustion of a long day for a kid taking part in a wedding

Tree with rain; is this something that you would go and practice prior to the wedding night if you had never done this before at this location in order to get the lighting to be wide enough to cover the area that you needed?

For the flower girl, making a scene on the sofa what if that was part of a set… Would that make it better? If some of the photos showed the face and the emotion like you described or would you only show the photo with the face and the emotion?

For me, the first image can’t be a 5 as is; the use of gen fill, unauthentic blurring, what appears to be faux light leaks added overtop. I think without all the adding all of that it’s a 4 - it’s an incredible shot for sure.
@lightspeedbear9 ай бұрын
Totally agree. Especially as the generative fill was hidden so badly, especially on the dress. No photography competition would be cool with fake imagery as part of a submission.

Totally agree. It's a fun, almost journalistic shot. But not actually very attractive to me.

Any viewers of the British sci if series Dr Who think that Patrick looks like a cyber man ? 😂 and call me old fashioned but wedding photography should be done on the wedding day or it’s a themed portrait shoot, and AI should only be for small things like the tip of a shoe cut off, not to make major stylistic changes

Icelandic wedding photo; I wonder how that would look with a slightly longer exposure and the dress blurring out in the wind 🤔

I laughed at the comment, "When I was shooting weddings, we didn't have the great AF we have today, I was using like a D750." When I shot weddings, we used manual focus medium format cameras. There is no question that the newer cameras provide more opportunities to capture incredible images. That said, even in the manual focus days, some photographers captured some incredible images. It just took more planning, creativity, and experience.
@sh87369 ай бұрын
Agreed! But I recall the D750 which Nikon fans rated as the greatest for low light photography would not focus for the first dance shot in the dark…
@FStoppers9 ай бұрын
@@sh8736 Yeah there was definitely some tricks you had to use. The biggest one was using a speedlight that employed the infrared AF light. Without that grid, you'd rarely get anything in focus. But yeah it's not as crazy as manual focus but mirrorless cameras now are insane with focus. I rarely even think about focus when I'm shooting now compared to the days of DSLRs. -P
@clausgiloi60369 ай бұрын
To be a 5 the dancing pair would have to be centered between the lights.

I'm surprised that most of these images are considered to be good wedding photos. Most of them would be very low quality street photos. I'm not a great photographer, but I didn't see a single keeper....I take that back. I commented too soon, the flower girl burying her head in the couch is very interesting. The last two (the couple in Iceland and the night scene under the tree) are also beautiful.
