(I'm calling it now, future super villain) considering that this story would've been made while Luna was still banished you have to wonder if maybe nightmare moon had some inspiration for the ghost of holiday future. On a side note, Spike has been pitch perfect himself this season. As for the episode itself I would say it's fantastic as a MLP episode.... buuuut, as a Christmas story? Out of curiosity, Brawny; how was Snowfall Frost NOT wrong, when she called Hearth's Warming "silly?" If it's implied toward Snowfall believing working hard to better Equestria, I understand. That being said, life isn't all about study and hard work. It's about being together with those you love. Having fun, being joyful and sharing your blessings unto others. Which, ironically is exactly what holidays like Christmas and Hearth's Warming essentially symbolizes. Besides, how could wiping a holiday out of existence possibly make the world better? If anything, it will only get worse

IIRC Revelation says Jesus will wear red when he returns (which would be why almost every depiction of him shows him with some sort of red on. But as the old saying goes, "all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy." Meaning that without a balance of work AND recreation. The world will never be better for anyone. This point is made especially clear after so many people stopped recess at public schools...forever or how they want to destroy summer vacation. Working isn't the only answer to humanity's greatness

Thing about people like Snowfall Frost is they are the only ones not practicing what they preach. Snowfall IS wrong and characters like her are complete idiots.

Eh, it's an American show made by an American company, what're ya gonna do. Not saying you're wrong that that wouldn't be interesting, but we tend to pull from the source material we're most familiar with, and many more audience members will recognize Christmas symbolism than other winter holidays. Honestly I can only REALLY think of the three winter holidays Brawny referenced here (and no I'm not counting that Krampus one as I'd be scared if a kids' show referenced a holiday celebrating a demon who steals and possibly eats children), so going into more obscure winter holidays could easily come across as the writers trying to be TOO clever. Overall I think they did a nice job with what they had - and in this case, they were directly parodying an established famous Christmas novel, so it only makes sense that the symbolism is much stronger in that direction for this episode in particular.
