They are rare, few and far in between, but that makes each of these "A Buck to the face" a real treat whenever they do come out. It's like you say, balance. By not doing too many too fast, the ones you DO are even better and the quality really shows. I now happily anticipate the "moral of the story" that will come from this, but again, when it comes. Don't rush it, that only takes away the preciousness of each of your videos.

I always had an issue with this episode for so many reasons. Rainbow has over baring parents and when she tells the truth for how she feels it is then made to look like that was the wrong thing to do. No it wasn't, the way she told them was bad but they made it seem like she was in the wrong only. When the show showed the right way to deal with parents like this, in my opinion at least, was with Sunburst and Starlight. Rainbow should of also explained why she felt like that in a way scottaloo could understand, she may think they are the best parents in the world and she has the right but that doesn't mean others believe that. explain why something bothers you and then try to see if it could be fixed for all sides

Seeing Rainbow's parents puts some perspective to Mysterious Mare Do Well... Back then it may have seemed odd the way Rainbow expected such high praise for little things-- but her parents WOULD do so. Rainbow really didn't have any idea what is praiseworthy and what is not. It was more like her parents praise her for everything, other ponies mostly not. So when all of Ponyville began to praise her.. Oh RD has certainly learned now. As for the "apology" show -- RD also showed her parents how embarrassing such overwhelming praise is. (I think they got the message from that). In addition, all three praising Scootaloo (she asked for it and actually looks happy). Everyone is happy in the end. Surely that's better than playing the blame game.

This episode had one of the worst morals in the show if you ask me because it's basically saying you should never disagree with your parents and that they could do no wrong. My opinion of Scoots lowered considerably after this episode. This episode had a good start too, but once RD entered the picture, things went down south. What RD's parents could be seen as illegal. This is one of the few times where I felt very sympathetic towards RD and didn't blame her for snapping. Brawny I feel your pain too. I have a helicopter mother and while I do love her, because of things she's done, it's better if we don't interact much since I honestly don't like being around her. She's a good person, but our personalities clash a lot.

You know I had it in a very interesting realization came to this episode. In return of Harmony discord used an image of Cloudsdale collapsing to get into her head and switch her element to disloyalty by petting her loyalties against her. In truth a lot of people myself included wondered why did he use Cloudsdale. This episode shows us that essentially discord was petting Rainbow Dash’s loyalty to her friends against loyalty to her parents.

I loved this episode. I was kind of like Scootaloo when I first got into the fandom. I drew and drew and showed the two people who I thought would be the most proud of my artwork. Especially since I was never good at animals until then. But they acted like they didn't like my artwork. Always "Meh" or "Why are you drawing cartoons?" I would have loved to have parents like Rainbow's. But we aren't all lucky. I get my support from fans and friends and it's because of them that I've gotten so far. Everyone has an episode that really speaks to them. For me, it was this one. I was basically Scootaloo.

This episode gave me a massive stroke. I wanted to like this episode from three reasons. One, we get to see what Dash's family is like. 2. We would get to see where she spent her youth. And 3. We would see her parents. And so far....all of it was just so painful to watch. The unbelievable adoration her parents give her, the way they act, and the horrible, horrible message at the end. There's a time in every parents the life when they need to start BACKING OFF. Cause if you do this to a kid, how will they learn self confidence if you celebrate a participation trophy, which is basically a step lower than last place. The one thing that I adored from the episode though was Scootaloo. Ignoring the whole "her life and family" thing, She was an enjoyable character in this. She had good scenes, gaga, and a overall good fit for this. I don't see any other character that would fit for this story....despite it being bad. 3🍪/10🍪

TheDanPony Parental Glidance is a mostly good lesson about helicopter parents needing to back off, up until the very end. The staff at Friendship is Magic I have this weird tendency to back off of great parenting and family relationship lessons. Rainbow Dash was 100% right to call her parents out for being overbearing obnoxious and way too supportive. A similar thing happened in Flurry of Emotions, and I think at least one other episode. Sadly, Scootaloo comes from a dearth of parenting and love, so she's desperate for any kind of care, support, or affection. Scootaloo is actually really lucky that she has such great friends, and that Rainbow Dash has pretty much adopted her as a little sister. Plus, having Apple Bloom and Sweetie Belle as her friends means that Scootaloo also has two other big sisters that can help her at times, and the rest of the Mane 6, Spike, and Starlight Glimmer to help. And that doesn't even cover Luna helping out. ... Is it obvious that Scootaloo ended up being one of my favorite characters?
@Dan-qy6zv6 жыл бұрын
Herman Cillo No. And if we look at the parenting episodes, (ignoring Perfect Pear 😭) they never seemed all that interesting.
@hariman77276 жыл бұрын
TheDanPony I always forget The Perfect Pear when I think about parenting episodes in Friendship is Magic. I guess I look at it as more of a love story than a parenting episode, even though it's very much about how the parents affected the children's lives. Oh, right. Somepony to Watch Over Me is the third parenting episode.
@Dan-qy6zv6 жыл бұрын
Herman Cillo That episode was more of parenting episode than this. At least there the lesson had substanxe and it wasn't bad. Learning to children grow and learn on their on is good.....but don't let them think everything is a good idea. They need guidance. They're not babies anymore. They need experience, but not to be left alone.

I am looking forward to you dissecting this episode's moral, cause I hate it. I get what the writers are going for, but the problem is the set up. the whole episode is clearly building up to a 'parents need boundaries' moral, when it does a 1-80 and says that Rainbow Dash was in the wrong. While the idea that kids need to learn to that their parent's 'embarrassing' behavior is a sign that they love them and want to build up their confidence, the episode clearly telegraphs from the moment they have lunch that these two take that too far (and the stuff they did at the rally was just absurd). maybe if it made it so they both learned a lesson I could forgive it, but as is I feel like this is arguably the worst moral of season 7.

This is another good parenting MLP episode undermined by a horrible or ending that backs away from the rest of the episode. The sad truth is that Rainbow's parents DID deserve getting chewed out. I honestly think that Rainbow was in Ponyville to escape the constant support for everything, so she could get actual feedback and criticism instead. Somepony To Watch Over Me and Flurry of Emotions have a similar problem. Good episode, but wholly undermined by a terrible ending.

Balance is needed, and Scootaloo is the 1000% absolute WORST pony to give Rainbow Dash a talking to after blowing up on her parents. Scootaloo suffers from what borders on parental abandonment, and is massively lucky that she has such good friends and role models, and an adoptive big sister who grew into the role well. Rainbow Dash's explosion is one of the most deserved "CUT THAT OUT!" speeches in a long time, especially when her mother and father react by *complimenting* her ability to rip into them. Also: This review was quite hilarious, and hit a little close to home. Family issues, you know. Even rewatching, it's quite funny. :)

Ah yes the episode everyone considered the best of MLP Season 7 because we finally get to see Rainbow Dash's family and its one of those RD and Scoots episodes and folks, let me just say...I DONT GET IT!! Seriously, this episode isn't just bad but I say Overrated for one thing THESE are not the parents I was hoping for of Rainbow Dash and they were just too over the top to the point of overkill. And the biggest problem with this episode is that it reminded me of "Cars 2". when Rainbow Dash gets chastised by the script for Snapping at her parents when CLEARLY she was actually in the right. Scootaloo's the blame for all this, its kinda like when Lighting McQueen gets chastised for snapping at Mater in a similar way. I give it 1/5 stars. just ONE star
@IrenaTheWiccan6 жыл бұрын
Michael McJunkin the reason i believe its so hyped up is because there are people who can sympathize with Dash, BECAUSE we have parents like this. This is one of my favorite episodes because it parallels a bit to my own life and i can appreciate that. My parents would embarass me at competitions but i also had a couple teammates, one in particular, who told me i was lucky to have parents like that who came to every single event to support me. My mom cried when work wouldnt give her time off for one of them. And when my parents found out about this boys parents not showing just because they simply didnt want to, they began to cheer for him too. Its like what Dash learn, we seldom remember how lucky we are to have parents who support, believe in, and love us until we see those who dont have parents to even WANT to support them.

LunaBear then I understand. In fact sympathizing with my favorite pony Rainbow Dash is the only positive I have with this episode. That and how nice the wonderbolts seemed. I think the biggest issue with this episode is that while it's horrible to not appreciate anything your child accomplishes, the opposite extreme is just as bad/damaging. If you constantly overhype EVERYTHING your kid does, down to _hanging up a towel_ , they'll just grow up cocky and expecting praise to be handed to them for nothing, which will be catastrophic when they inevitably start living on their own. Not to mention it's extremely annoying and embarrassing to deal with people going "WOOO, THAT'S MY BABY, HANG THAT TOWEL" everywhere you go. Rainbow's parents (and Scootaloo, for starting everything) were in the wrong, NOT Rainbow Dash. Rainbow's parents should've been apologizing, not Rainbow. There was a hint that they might've understood Rainbow's feelings at the very end, but it felt a bit disingenuous. Seriously, if Scootaloo and Rainbow Dash's parents apologized instead of it being the other way around, this episode would've been 100 times better.

I agree WITH EVERY SINGLE WORD of this review. I absolutely hated this episode, mainly because one of my least favorite things in the whole world is helicopter parents and oversupportiveness. That might sound weird, but it’s true. I literally feel weird whenever anyone cheers me on, so much so that I’ve forbidden my family (who are supposed to be supportive) from supporting me where I can hear. This episode is everything I hate about being supportive and more.

Frankly, I'd have liked some support throughout my life. After I had to have surgery to remove a brain tumor and then was left with a disability, anytime I wanted to try something I really liked, my family would make me feel like I was going to fail and thus I didn't ever do anything important during my school years and then I get lectured on not having done anything by the very people who made me feel like I shouldn't try anything but claim they support me. I actually would've preferred my parents to be more like Dash's

Its very odd. I've always hated braggers or the egotistical, but at the same depending on how their represented they can be rather fun to watch. I can't place the name, but I think there are some that have an infectious ego/confidence that's rather helpful. I'm having tons of fun writing my first egotistical character, how she takes in the praise, how she takes criticism and how she is always ready to put her money where her mouth it and give 100%, which isn't always a good thing. Yet, I still can't stand Rainbow or Trixie, though the latter can be fun from time to time for me.

Bow Hothoof and Windy Whistles are an embarrassment to parents everywhere.

And they are only minor exaggerations of the worst of modern parents, who raise spoiled brats due to praising them for everything and never balancing out the support with criticism and guidance. The worst moment is them complimenting RD for yelling at them.

I agree with you guys. I take dance classes and at the end of every year we have a big recital. My aunt (Dad’s sister) is crazy and loud. Let’s just say I have a love hate relationship with her. I actually hesitated when I first found out that she was coming to see the show because of how loud and hyper I thought she’d be. I agree with Rainbow Dash here especially because she’s an adult who’s independent. Also I understand why Thespio doesn’t like Rainbow Dash but for me she’s my second favorite pony. Fluttershy is my first. 🦋🌈

Meanwhile, Aramau couldn't identify with Dashie in this episode because when she was growing up IRL her parents were in the opposite ditch.

Derpy's eyes got more lazy as time went on, so that would have messed up her flying skill.

I have no idea why. It would be nice if we did see them

She lives with her lesbians aunts since her parents spend a lot of time working abroad, though you wouldn't know that unless you read the official MLP story book about it since the show (though I may be proven wrong this season, we do still have 21 episodes where it could happen) refuses to acknowledge the book as canon
