Not only are Rainbow's parents overbearing but the episode pretty much says that they are responsible for making her a narcissist and that that is a good thing. Then when Rainbow, not unreasonable, asks for a little space she is demonised and shamed for having the audacity to not utterly love and adore everything that her parents have done for and to her. I'd have given the theme a skull rating.

I agree the moral ruined the episode overall, her parents behaviour can be extremely suffocating for a child and a detriment in the long run. I hated seeing Dash made out to be the villain, as if being honest about how you feel and telling others when to stop is somehow bad and 'not the right thing to do', especially when she was being made uncomfortable by her parents actions.

So by this logic, I should put up with my dad's constant berating and my mother's complete and utter apathy because they love me and I should be glad I have parents at all. Okay.

Kayla Zobel the way I see it, Rainbow was put in the wrong because there were no visible repercussions for the parents’ actions. Yeah, they were annoying, but weren’t doing any harm beyond that.

@@a5tr4l Their actions made her uncomfortable and they didn't have a compelling reason to not do it. That's enough for them to have to stop doing it and be in the wrong for not stopping.

@@a5tr4l It doesn't actually matter if they meant well, what matters is the consequences of what they did. And them being oblivious to it may be annoying at best, but once they know that she wants them to stop, then them being awfully oblivious doesn't really matter because if she told them, then they don't have any excuses to stop doing the shitty thing. (Also, they must've known she didn't like it before because she spent a whole childhood with them, so at one point she most likely would've told them that she doesn't like it. Which makes this have fifty different shades of worse.)

This would have been better if they had reached a common ground, that Rainbows parents could still be supportive but tone it down and let her focus on her work as a Wonderbolt. And in return Rainbow would visit every once in a while or something. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN SO EASY HASBRO.

This topic could’ve been SO FRICKEN EASY to write. Rainbow Dash’s parents were over supportive going on borderline creepy (keeping used diapers for example), and they could’ve just reached an agreement that they would still support her but just tone it down to a 3/10 at most. This episode told us that if you demand boundaries from your parents, you’re wrong for doing so and even more wrong for being upset when they trample all over said boundaries.

The Not-God-Emperor Of Mankind or they turn out finding other parents who will give them support like this. my parents did this for a kid I was in band with. they didn't go to ANY of our competitions. NOT ONE. they only came to one meeting in the three years we were there and oooohh did they lay it on thick. "Were so proud of him! he works so hard!" Yea. he did work hard, no thanks to them. they didn't go to the competitions because of work or health reasons, they didn't go because they simply didn't want to the lazy bastards. my parents pulled for him what dashs parents did for scootaloo. I can see why people are pissed at the moral, but this episode hit me hard. I took my parents support for granted until I met this kid. he achieved greatness without his parents support.

This was one episode I just couldn't finish. I mean, don't get me wrong, Scootaloo going into fangirl mode over her idol is cute, but the episode is so damn _loud_. There's just too much going on, audio-wise. That and the moral is, of course, one that could have easily been fixed with a few changes to the narrative. I don't have many episodes that I've outright been unable to watch or rewatch, but this was among them.

5:12 There was a young Lightning Dust, Spitfire, and Fleetfoot on the winners' stand in Rainbow's flashback. I'm guessing she doesn't remember nor care to remember the fillies that were actually there, so she used their faces to fill in those blanks.
@JaelinBezel
@JaelinBezel 7 жыл бұрын
I've always imagined Spitfire to be maybe half a generation older than Rainbow Dash and that Lightning Dust was from somewhere in Southern Equestria (mostly because someone like that would be pretty easy to notice and between Canterlot, Manehatten, Cloudsdale, and the Crystal Empire the North hasbeen pretty well covered by now)

Wait, the moral's an F? I would've given it a skull, tbh. Probably because i keep having to put up with people doing things that i clearly told them not to do (ex:i very clearly tell someone not to touch me because i absolutely hate touching, they kiss me, i tell them not to do that again) and they ignore it because "their intentions were good" or whatever, and at its worst they make fun of me for setting up a boundary.

I enjoyed the episode, despite the moral being questionably dubious in its delivery. We got to see RD's parents (despite regretting it about half-way through) and learned a lot more about Rainbow than we needed to know. Though, a few things bothered me. The whole time looking through the scrapbook, I was asking for most of the pics, "WHO TOOK THE PICTURES!? Scootaloo obviously didn't take them, those who were present didn't have cameras, and I highly doubt Wonderbolt Academy and HQ are open to the press 24/7." Then, as I thought about it, one word came to mind--"Dinkleburg." No, seriously, I thought, "Featherweight."

her parents were really cringy... don't think parents should be acting like fans of their kids in the first place (encouragement is one thing of course, but like this is weird) and I think the only argument for rainbow dash being in the wrong in any way is that maybe there was a better way of telling them to back off (but I'll be honest, even without the crappy moral I just don't like them)

Maybe it's because my parents basically never told me what I did was good enough (those "you only got bronze" or "You should've had an A+" parents), but I think the message was great. UNLESS, you're not like Rainbowdash who can push themselves and set their own goals regardless of outward praise. The way I see it, the unconditional support allowed rainbow to feel confident in any endeavor because she always had a foundation to work off of. If Flutterhy's parent did this to their son (forgot his name) then THAT would be bad.
@davidgraziano6235
@davidgraziano6235 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah its because of that, the moral is really bad here. Not only should parental support not be unconditional but we see that it was actively driving other children away from Rainbow Dash. They were way out of line.
@GlitchyPixExtra
@GlitchyPixExtra 7 жыл бұрын
The problem was that they were overdoing it and drawing attention to the child who clearly never needed the attention. Rainbow Dash has been shown to be really good with confidence, she doesn't need her parents boosting her confidence up more nor does she want it
