Hi team,
I'm back after 1 month knee surgery recovery. Just after a couple of days of rest I was able to get back on my feet and start working out, a sort of physical therapy.
The doctor said exercise is good but running should be delayed.
As you may know, I got this injury from running.
I was doing extreme training for a marathon. Whilst running around the track I tore my meniscus in my knee which already had compounding issues.
They said I should wait 6 weeks before hiking or running, however, I find that I was ready to go and couldn't stand the idleness any longer.
So... as you can see, I'm up, running and taking the bull by its horns.
In this episode I cook Kafta kabobs w/ a homemade Moroccan spice rub and a setting of Mezze (a selection of small dishes, I used homemade hummus with lemon garlic and spicy Harissa Baba Ganesh), took my new Silky Outback saw for a spin and generously made use of homemade Bug Dope (recipe from Nessmuk) because the bugs were relentless, as I watched it all play out on through the beautiful woods which nature has provided us.
Note: you don't really see it in these shots because I simply laid in the hammock and read (without filming) as thunderstorms washed everything about me.
Thank you so much for your support and well wishes during my recovery! I'm glad to be back,
The Lore of Bushcraft

Never take your body for granted. I had 8 compound fracturs in my left leg in an auto accident. Was told I would probably never walk again and if I did it would be with a severe limp. I was 35 at the time. After a crap ton of pain I have gone on to earn a 2nd degree black belt in Taekwondo starting at age 44. Just this year have gotten my first bag together after many years to start backpack camping again. I am 51 now and have missed a lot. I'm not willing to miss more. Just waiting for the temperature to come under 100. Watching videos like this keep me focused on the goal. Take care of yourself and God bless.

When I was a lad they told me not to run due to my asthma. I listened for many years but soon started to run, I run ultra marathons now, never listen to the naysayers 💪🏃‍♂️ Congratulations on the Belt! 🥋 I'm glad you were able to get out into wilderness, there's no better cure. I'm glad I could provide a vicarious experience for you. Thank you so much my friend!

Cracking video, good to see you recovering well, stunning woodland, cant think of a better thing to do other than chill in my hammock rig, reading a book ,during a storm, rain on the tarp, that slight sway on the hammock as the trees move around, sends me to sleep lol, really do love the way you organise your food in the tins ,the silky outback certainly looks a solid tool, ,good health and safe travels my friend, cheers craig

Hi Craig, this weekend I have a sunny day and a rainy storming day, so I'll have a little variety. Of course, a lot of the rainy day will be spent reading and laying in the hammock (life is good). The tins really do come in handy, and they also protect your food from animals. The silky saw cuts like butter and deploys with ease. They finally caught on to adapting it to this particular limited outback model to Bushcraft (most likely it's just a stunt and will be permanent). Thanks for watching and I'll look forward to your next comment. Feel better, Càrn

Good to see you in the sticks again sir 😉👍🏼 What was breakfast there? I must see if I can make myself some bug dope. I’m sure Dave Canterbury covers it in a vid. That fart meat looked good. I always get a bit musical after eating it 😊 Smell the coffee. You do intrigue me!

Hi Bourne, thanks for visiting me here as well! The breakfast was: Just Egg patties & spicy Beyond Sausage patties, they hold up quite well, and taste authentic. I've hadn't had that issue you refer to with Beyond in the least :) The Bug Dope recipe I got from Nessmuk, however, during my research I found that they all made a very similar recipe: it's 3 parts Pine Tar, 2 parts Castor oil and 1 part Pennyroyal oil, simmer for 10 minutes on AVG. It has to be warm in order to run, or you can stick a stick in it to retrieve it. Today I actually toyed with it to make it flow and distribute better. It is a sticky oily formula and makes a sort of protective sheen about you. It's about 70% effective, yet so is 100% deep. I still get bit no matter what I use, especially if I'm around moist areas, and that's always the case (needing water). Yes, the fresh ground coffee always enhances the experience. Thanks a lot for your well wishes, and the welcoming of my return! Cheers

Hi Jena, thank you, it's good to be back! I'm using a recipe I made at home from Nessmuk (an old-time Woodsman) called Bug dope. It uses, 3 parts Pine Tar, 2 parts Castor oil and 1 part Pennyroyal oil simmered for about 10 minutes in a pot. It's a thick glaze that coats your skin (is kind of tacky). I also use essential oils such as Peppermint, Cedar oil and Eucalyptus oil. I prep all my gear with Permethrin beforehand and use the natural stuff for my skin. My shirt is actually a special bug shirt that's been treated for with permethrin in the factory and lasts up to 70 washes (95% effective). All the stuff is about 70-80% effective. I still end up with small bites after a trip (which would have been much worse), but that's because I'm in the thicket of the Woods and usually near water. And those conditions even 100% deep will not fully be effective. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Hi, I get where you're coming from, but my films are simply a window into my world. I don't come out here to be on KZbin, I come out here to enjoy nature, film what I'm doing, annotate after the fact, then place them on KZbin. I don't wish to be a TV host. I simply share my experiences. Moreover, understand that I go to the wilderness to get away from people, to escape the trappings of modern life "to smooth it." If you wish to know my thoughts, just know that I am content and at peace. Equanimity! 🌱🌲🏕️🔥💦 🌬️

So does the beyond meat have to stay frozen or cold? Enjoyed the video bud
@TheLoreofBushcraft
@TheLoreofBushcraft 3 жыл бұрын
Hey there, thanks for watching! The Beyond Meat lasts me up till 3 days. I freeze it the night before I go out and try to cook it at least the next day. I leave it in those tins out of the Sun, but if it's going to be more than 2 days I might put it in my bush pot semi-submerged in a steam by a rock. It is not made from animal products so it's not prone to spoil (so there's way less chance of illness). Even after 3 days unsubmed in the thicket of the summer, I had no issue. Note: of course with any product after a couple days quality starts to diminish Hope this helps, Cheers
