I think the "skybox" is actually just one of the gravity switch fields that appear in the normal game, positioned under the peak of Mario's jump height. So anything that send you upwards at or above Mario's jump height-such as Mario bouncing upwards off of lava/fire-would put Mario in the field and change gravity to up.

its the flipsville skybox with a giant invisible black hole above you that appears when you jump so you can still go up as far as you want as long as you dont jump

This is part of the original Super Mario Galaxy 2. It only works for music in the original game. For custom music, you'll need to figure out how to edit BMS and CIT files.
