A/C Couldn't Handle The Heat- Till It "Dawned" On Me What To Do!

My A/C is 15 years old and with the heat this summer it just couldn't keep up. I was dreading paying for an A/C service call during this heat wave. But then I learned about the foolish mistake I had been making and a couple hours later my air conditioner was running like new! If only this had "Dawned" on me earlier...🤣🤣🤣

For best results, remove the louvered panels from the outside. I saw screws in each corner to be able and do that. Easy to remove and replace. Then you can splash your dawn water all over all of them. Then be sure to remove the top of the a/c unit, the part with the fan from the top. And spray water from the inside out to remove all that build up. I do this every year when spring/summer arrive so my a/c will run at its best for the season. Easy peasy Parris.

I didn’t recommend removing the wrap-around sheet metal because sometimes getting all the screw holes exactly lined up again can be a pain.

Always spray hose water from the inside toward the outside. Spray straight out, not down at an angle. Keep the pressure down. Those tiny aluminum fins between the coils are very thin and could be damaged by excessive water pressure. You need to remove the screws on the top and flip the cover and fan assembly over and set it on a portable table. Be very careful. The sheet metal edges inside and around the top can be sharp as a knife. Wear gloves and long sleeves. You absolutely need to pull the outside inline electrical disconnect to be certain no electricity can reach the unit. That dryer vent should probably be moved or extended to get it away and downwind of the AC. But if you check the AC coils every year, that would be fine.

You should get a fertilizer sprayer attachment for a hose and put the Dawn in that. It's also a good lazy way to wash a car. By the way as long as you are not in a drought, you will get even better efficiency by spraying water on the cooling vents when the AC is running. Fog nozzles work best but drip misters are more than good enough. I enjoy your videos!

Great video and very imformative!!! My AC was installed in 1994 and it's still going strong but bear in mind i live in Toronto where AC is needed for about 2 months out of the year. I clean the Condenser Coils every spring with water from a hose . Where i live furnace maintenance is so important' compared to AC maintenance.
