In this video, I give an overview of the A.C.E. curriculum and some of my thoughts on using it in our homeschool.

Great video! We’ve been using ACE Paces for 4 years now and we love it! But I’ve also seen negative reviews , so, What are your thoughts about it? Do you think Paces are enough for graduation, ACT or SAT exams, and college?

I didn't learn math well with PACE's so I didn't use them for math. Now that they have revised the English, I think it's much better. I know many who have scored well on tests after using ACE, so it depends on the individual student and their talents, amount of study, etc.

High school is better now than when I was a student. However, you may need to supplement the material with outside sources for literature and writing.

We are going into our third year of homeschooling with three teen boys in high school this year. We are about to use our first A.C.E. curriculum for my 10th grader, but it's not a PACE, it's a Self-Pac. He's doing basic general business. I'm a bit bummed that it's all black and white with very few pictures, if any, but the curriculum looks solid, and it's perfect for him because he likes to work alone. The updated PACEs look so much nicer and more engaging.

Yes! I remember doing those when I was in school. I enjoyed the regular PACEs more than the "Self-Pacs". I hope you guys have a great year! Thank you for the comment.

That was a really through review. Thanks so much. I've been trying to decide between cle & ace for my highschoolers and there really wasn't many reviews materials for upper grades. .. what do you use for math?

@@Lipstickncurlsfitness hi. I actually went with both. Lol. .. my son is a faster learner so I went with cle for him. My daughter needed more repetition so I did ace for her. .. one thing to consider is cle lessons are kind of long so my son struggled a bit since he was transitioning out of public school. So his short attention span was a challenge for him. Eventually I tried cle with my daughter and she liked it better than ace. .. I would suggest that you order just a few books from both curriculum and see what works best for your family. You will probably know what works by the end of the 1st completed booklet. And then you can invest further. All the best to you and your family😁

We did a few Paces in Literature/Creative Writing, and like you, I was a little disappointed that they were not the original classics. This year we are using all ACE (with the exception of Literature/Creative Writing). Can you tell me if it changes in high school English? Do they use original classics or do they have their own rewritten books?
@mrsbashamelementary
@mrsbashamelementary 4 жыл бұрын
starbeck96 They use the actual unabridged books but their selections are weak in my opinion. I don’t use their literature in high school. I use book lists from other sources (or my own making) or Abeka.

@@mrsbashamelementary thank you. I have also been thinking of using Abeka Literature for 7th and up. We've used Abeka in the past, but it was for lower elementary.

@@mrsbashamelementary do you have a specific video on how you beef up high school literature, or could you elaborate? This is the thing I'm really concerned about as we're about to hit 9th grade next year. I would really like a more well rounded literature selection.

@@mycupoverflows7811 To be honest, the best English program is either Abeka or BJUPress. I will try to make a video about supplementing the writing/reading portion of ACE. Thank you for the idea! I was disappointed in how ACE "cleans up" (takes out cursing and other situations) from classic literature. They totally changed Heidi and I don't know why - it's not a dirty book! Besides, our kids need to know how to work around or through these situations. That's gonna be their real life! For now, I can suggest adding in a research paper to your 9th grade material, as well as several more essays. You can buy the Abeka English Grammar and Composition Handbook for about $30. It is a wealth of step-by-step info (at least when I used it), and gives examples of various composition pieces. I hope this helps and I will try to make some notes and do a video soon. :)

I will be honest. This is not a knock on you or the curriculum. But I went to an ACE school in Illinois, and I will say that I did not learn. I breezed through the PACES, even won a trophy for completing the most in one of my grades. Because I worked so fast, I didn't have to go to my 12 grade. However, what also happened is that I never learned how to learn. There was no lab, the "supervisors" didn't have actual knowledge on curriculum. Often, if I had issues with trying to understand, they would get the answer keys and and just give me the answer and move on. There was a school of about 60 kids, the 7th-12th were all in one big room. 3-4 supervisors, and none of them were qualified to do anything. There were no teachers. So I was not taught anything. I memorized things just to pass but never learned. I never had homework. Spiritual guidance & education was fine, but actual learning and being educated was horrible. I don't recall any of the graduates even completing college. Although I completed a year early, I failed at my Air Force tests, my tests required for other things. I was never truly taught to learn. My opinion might not matter but I will say that this type of education was a failure for me, and I will not recommend to anyone. I base this because it didn't teach how to get along in the adult world, how to go to college, and there was no education that I can recall. Since I started ACE in 8th grade, I consider myself as only having an 8th grade education. I may have completed calculus and biology in PACES but I have 0 knowledge that I learned. Maybe current times are better. But I can say, from when I went, which was in the 80's, it was not something I would recommend.

I attended ACE schools during that era as well, and had the same difficulties at school. I had the bonus of having a professional teacher for a mother, so she filled in the gaps for me at home. I tried to do that with my children as well. I do know several ACE grads who went on to college and even post-grad work, so it's not impossible. Everyone has different learning styles and this one obviously wasn't the right fit for you. The company has made some improvements to the material, but I agree with most of your assessments. It has weaknesses. Thank you for your comment!

@@snowps1 you should check out andrea mills because she had a totally opposite experience. in reality, it's up to the student. if they choose to cheat, then yes they won't learn anything. that's true no matter the curriculum.

i went to public school and in high school didn't have a math teacher for 3 years. learned didly squat LOL. now that i'm an adult with children on my own, i homeschool them. imho, there's nothing wrong with ace curriculum. the problem is the student choosing to cheat, which is a personal decision, and the instructors not making sure you didn't cheat on tests. every "school" has it's problems, i can promise you that.
