In May 2021 A.C. Grayling ,founder of New College of the Humanities, came to Intelligence Squared to take us on a journey through the history of science, psychology and history itself. In a special lecture drawing from his new book Frontiers of Knowledge he will describe how each field has advanced to where it is now: from the rise of technology to quantum theory; from the dawn of humanity to debates around national histories; from ancient ideas about the brain to modern theories of the mind.
Each advance in these subject areas has further exposed what Grayling calls the paradox of knowledge: that the more we know, the greater becomes the extent of our ignorance.

It's because you have a tiny brain too like he does and never even thought of BASIC science. The 1LofT states that energy can't be created or destroyed, it can't happen naturally. One aspect of the 2LofT shows that the universe is winding down, usable energy is becoming less usable. It is clear creation had to be done supernaturally yet it is still denied because people are just too proud to accept that, among other things.

"But it is equally important to remember that people are not just their careers. They are also voters, thinkers, lovers, parents, friends, travelers, and neighbors, and as such, they should have a much broader literacy conscious of the fact that the world is not a fabric of facts which have been settled, agreed upon, and put in place by the discoveries to date. Rather, it is an open-ended field where all our inquiries are generating new questions to be asked, new answers to be sought, and that, realizing this is not just fascinating in itself and enriching, but also important from the point of view of how we decide -- how we as a society, and how we as individuals, are going to live, vote, and do with what we currently think we know." 28:41 - 29:40 Extremely well put! Thoroughly enjoyed this lecture, and super refreshing in an age rife with misinformation and agendas.

Hey, how did this "brilliant" lecture even address how we got this all on its own. That's a good place to start. The 1LofT states that energy can't be created or destroyed, it can't happen naturally. At the end of knowledge there is nothing more than an invisible door, where the light from the other side is shining through so, so unbelievable bright that it will push you so, so far out of sight, leaving you with nothing more than you knew the moment before, you made your first move towards the final prouf.

wow! thanks! so, as regards education, maybe it's not so bad to have some hoops (educational measurement) to have to jump though, so long as those are not considered the end goal. an enquisitive person can take such hoops as an opportunity to learn much more broadly about a field, and yet still jump through such hoops and learn lots more on the way ... perhaps that's a +ve approach?
