OPUS and DOPUS are still awesome. I worked in a computer store that catered to Commodore computers in the early 90s. I repaired the machines and helped with the software sales. It drove me nuts trying to understand why they could or would not keep up with demand. We sold everything on the day it arrived in the store. It was insane. Software, hardware. All sold on the same day that they arrived. If Commodore had better management, it could have been the leader in home computing.

@@RonHelton Did you work at the Commodore Amiga Store that was on N. May Ave. just north of NW. 63rd St.? I can't remember the name of the store at the moment, but I bought my Amiga 3000 there In the early 90s. It finally died sometime in the early 2000's, I got my first Internet experiences on that machine. I still have an Amiga 4000 and the very rare Amiga 3000 tower, but mostly I use the amazing new Vampire FPGA based Amiga clone.

@@wildstar1063 I worked at Second Hand Software at 23rd and MacArthur. There was a different store around the area that you mentioned. I can't recall the name of it, I had only been there one time but one of the owners of that store used to come and hang out with us at the store on 23rd street. I just looked at Google maps and the buildings are all still there but none of the businesses are there anymore. Wow, it looks like a lot has changed there.

For me, WB2 and 3 were what I ‘grew up’ with and it’s those that press my nostalgia button. Having said that, the majority of games I run under emulation are set up as A500 WB1.3 as that’s the most efficient for emulation. Nice list of utilities though.

Doug, you are going to LOVE 64Door!! And it really does simply work flawlessly on 1.3 machines. You can download it off Amigalove.com from the attached article down below (it's not on Aminet for some weird reason). If you use a 1200 or some other machine it may require you boot from floppy because there's some sort of mystery 1.3 library it seems to want. In 1.3 you can actually run it right off the hard drive, too, which is awesome. It makes visiting Particles and all those amazing C64 BBSes a total dream. Heck yeah keep one of your lovely A2K ladies 1.3. That'll keep her distinct from all the other space rocket Amigas you've got whenever you need that nostalgia fix. Thanks for checking out my video. So when ppl try to insist that the old OS (pre KS 2.0) wasn't very good I let them know how wrong they were. While I prefer KS 3 it is built upon the building block of the older systems.

OMG if that's the case I'll have to research that over the weekend. I remember seeing a DropBox client, but it was purely for file storage (which is likely what the Google Drive program does, too). @LeftoverBeefcake
@LeftoverBeefcake 3 жыл бұрын
@@AmigaLove Part of it is figuring out how WP Library stores its calendar data file, which shouldn't be that bad I would think... the harder part is grabbing the Google data, but as Amiga Ireland suggests that's also very possible since the Google Drive/Dropbox handler is out there. Personally I've been tinkering around with grabbing things like my gmails for display on an Amiga or C64/128 but my solution is to use a Raspberry Pi to access the web, and a Python script that logs in, gets my data, and sends it over the serial port to a terminal program. I've managed to grab Twitter and RSS news feeds this way. Unfortunately that involves a lot of extra setup when it would be ideal for the Amiga to go do it all itself. :P
@LeftoverBeefcake
@LeftoverBeefcake 3 жыл бұрын
Now that I think about it, it might also be possible to visit a simple web app using the Amiga and have the app grab the google data, and then change it to WP Library format for download... possibly connect via Telnet for low spec Amigas and through a web browser for Amigas that can run one... hmmmm...

Your EndCLI thing is slightly wrong - you could hold down CTRL and press backstroke (next to delete key) and it would close the window. I started out with 1.2 and therefore have a lot of love for it and 1.3 but for anything productive I use the latest now mainly for the ease of HD support. I can easily add an 80GB HD to a modern Amiga OS and with 1.3, it took me *ages* to get one working and even that was limited to something like 20MB. Not saying that *is* the upper limit, I know many had larger HDs but for an OS I'm not going to use a lot, didn't want a large amount of space sitting unused. I lived in the CLI, so much that it actually took me a long time to start using DOpus. I was a late starter but still went back to CLI for some tasks. As for WShell, I wish I'd discovered that back then as it was KingCON that I always installed when I got my A1200. Zoom-Daemon - because I got to know the Amiga very well I took advantage of the parameters you could specify with a window and took advantage of it. You can open a CONsole: window and specify ALT sizes with 2.0 which was used with great effect with ToolsDaemon. Great video, very excited to watch :)
