Bank gets in trouble they can give you stock, who wants stock in a failing bank, and keep your money or you can stand in line with all of the other creditors and spend years getting some of your money back. The biggest danger of CBDC is the destruction of the commercial banks. If consumers transfer their bank account balances to wallets held by then Fed then banks will have no funds for loans or mortgages. Will consumers have to apply to the government for loans and mortgages? Credit card would only be used by those who need to keep a balance. The whole "points, miles, and cash back" schemes would go away. We do not know what a world without commercial banks would look like.
