Binding the film makers to George's unfinished ideas is a bad idea. Let them build off what is already out there from George's era (the six films and Clone Wars). Time to hand off the baton. Lando made the right choice both for the story and in-universe. Protecting thousands of people for whom he is responsible was the right call. Besides, he hadn't seen Han in years in an acrimonious parting of ways. X-Wing in the garage. Hands down.

This was great, so glad I found this. 1. Conflicted on this. I'd really like to know more about how much was used/ignored from George's treatments. Also without knowing the reasons for this choice it really makes it hard to just say if it's good or bad. 2. I think Lando is a smart enough guy to know that making deals with the Empire isn't really a good thing and that they will screw you over. That being said I don't really see him having a lot of good options so I think he took the best option available to him, even if it wasn't a particularly good one. 3. TIE Interceptor.
@JCReifenberg9 жыл бұрын
I love the interceptor also! But wasn't an option to pick it!
@Bombastuss9 жыл бұрын
J.C. Reifenberg I suppose you're right. Just saw a bunch of other people mentioning other ships. If not the interceptor then a Y-wing I think.

1. While I agree that George sold Star Wars to Disney, I think they should still at least base the sequel trilogy on them. I mean it doesn't have to be a direct adaptation, but maybe in the same general vein. 2. Lando made the right choice. Even when Vader tries to change the deal near the end of Empire, Lando tries to stand up to him and gets shot down. 3. Why didn't either of these guys say they'd have the Millennium Falcon? Heresy!
@JATactor9 жыл бұрын
It wasn't one of the choices in the question it was just "wings" don't worry the Falcon is it's own category!

James Arnold Taylor In that case I'd say X-Wing as well. Good enough to blow up the Death Star, good enough for me. I was thinking of the A-Wing, the more fuel-efficient, compact alternative, but what would my friends say when they saw me flying it around. Lol!

Matthew Lynn I'd take a Jedi Starfighter. A Jedi can actually use the Jedi Starfighter to use force powers from within the Starfighter, defeating his enemies in space combat with these force powers. Can't get any better than that!

Ahhh I can't believe JAT read my reply! haha. Awesome show, btw! I already love it. As for the ship question, I definitely love Slave 1. All the gadgets, missiles, and it just looks awesome.

I don't think anyone is questioning Disney's right to ignore Lucas' story. But the fact is that when they announced they were making the sequel trilogy, they said they were following Lucas' story treatments. And that's what people were expecting. What's worse, Disney never announced that they had ignored it. We only know this because a journalist bothered to ask Lucas when he was promoting Strange Magic. And the sequel trilogy is supposed to be part of a story. They are doing the seventh chapter of Lucas' story, as such, it's downright stupid to make it something else. It will be just fan fiction.
@talondiwisch52069 жыл бұрын
I agree. At least use them until there's nothing left. They they can do whatever they want. Plus, they still would have had some freedom even if they did use his treatments.

Great show guys! Looking forward to the next one & subscribed. Always been a huge fan of JAT ever since seeing him at SWW 2 years ago with his Obi-wan and Beyond show and doing the meet and greet with him. Such a positive dude and a great motivational speaker - if you don't feel like making a change in your life & pursuing your dreams after seeing his show, you're not human IMO. He just radiates the good vibes. Glad to see how passionate he still is about Star Wars even with TCW finished - hope he stays involved in the Comlink for a long time :D

Late reply but I don’t think it’s fair of you to say someone’s not human just because they didn’t feel the same motivation you did lol everybody goes through their own shit and they may just need something more than a speech on KZbin. Not tryna hate I’m jus saying

I have to say that I would go with X-wing except for that I'm partial to the Jedi Starfighter so if I could park any ship in my garage it would be that. Or I would have to go with the Ghost and maybe hang out with the crew, wouldn't mind that either I loved it can't wait for more! This was so much fun!

George Lucas sold it. I think it was a very sensible thing of him to do. Star Wars has now been passed to a corporation that has a proven trackrecord of making a franchise very successful and also can attract the best of the industry. Instead of a monarch who only has subjects that will do whatever he says whether good or bad, we have a democracy that, together, will take the tough and right decision to ultimately serve the overall franchise and story. While George did write treatments for episodes 7 through 9, that doesn't guarantee that they are any good, look at how some fans treated the prequel trilogy. If the treatments didn't reach the expectations of the creative heads at disney then I think it's better to start fresh. Disney has made a lot of controversial decisions since buying the rights but I can honestly say that I (do not) have a bad feeling about this. I even have a new enthusiasm for the "new" EU of books... I will say though that I do want a live-action series in the Star Wars universe soon!
@christermn9 жыл бұрын
Are they the minority or are we? They are certainly the most vocal. But at any rate I love them all but the prequels were the weaker ones, especially in the dialogue. I am still thankful to him for giving the worlds top talent the chance to show us some great future stories in the star wars universe.

Love the new segment! Great start of an endlessly awesome debate. 1) I agree with Catherine Tabor... Disney paid for Star Wars and they can choose the direction that they want to go with it. I have a hard time believing someone would pay that amount of money for something and screw it up. Hopefully, they'll use bits and pieces of Lucas's vision. 2) I agree with J.C. Reifenberg that Lando did do the right thing when he betrayed his friend to the Empire. I feel the needs of many out weigh the needs of a few. It would have been nice if Lando would have warned Han, but I have a feeling that the Empire was watching him closely and wouldn't have the opportunity to warn him. Thankfully, everything worked out in the end. Han lived. Princess Leia was safe. Luke escaped. Empire was bummed.
@Psychohistorian429 жыл бұрын
1) In the undecided group. I've only heard Mark Hamill's statement that the original intent for the sequel trilogy was for Luke to find his sister (according to this, it wasn't originally Leia, but a new character hidden in the outer rim somewhere) and teach her the ways of the Force. If Lucas had another idea for the sequel trilogy, that's news to... well everybody. But if teaching others the way of the Force was Lucas' original idea, then from what I've heard, that's what the new movies are about anyway. 2) Yeah, it was the wrong choice, but Lando was trying for the lesser of two evils: sacrificing an old friend in favor of the five million citizens of Cloud City. It was only when Vader kept pulling the rug from under Lando that he realized that the Empire wasn't going to honor any deal, and that he effectively signed a death warrant for Han and Leia. He complained about turning Han over to Boba Fett; Maybe Vader only talked about baiting Skywalker and letting them go. He's a Sith Lord, after all. He doesn't have to answer to some miner. He made the wrong choice, but he was deceived by the Empire when he made it. 3) I always dug A-Wings.

1 im agree with new ways of Disney, because the prequels are not so good GL was a little bit arrogant directing the 3 movies, is his universe but you can learn from past... remember ESB? i preffer a new fresh vision to give a new air to my beloved saga 2 well... when a 2 meter tall dark jedi in a all black armor with the deep voice of JEJ tell you the options... isnt wise defy him 3 A wing is a PURE fighter fast agile and the pilots didnt need the astromech help because the A wings pilots have all guts all brains

The analysis that they are not using ANYTHING George wrote is about as accurate as people who say midichlorians demystified the Force and made it about count and not that ANYONE could use the Force. That is lunacy. Ridiculous. Total ignorance. As if the notion that LFL tossed out EVERYTHING George Lucas conceptualized for TFA and beyond. He had treatments and they decided to not use those. That's it. His ideas will definitely still be in the movies. Also, EVERYONE uses the Force. Not just Jedi. Lucas has said as much. All midichlorians did was show how Anakin was created by those midichlorians and virtually nothing else.

Only just able to watch this. Great fun folks! Keep up the good work. On the GL treatments. I have to agree with what Bryan Young & Simon Kinsberg said. GL's statement is not contradictory from a certain point of view. They adapted his treatments, just as he did with the Original Trilogy. Pick up a copy of Dark Horse Comics's THE Star Wars and you will see that even George Lucas didn't use George Lucas's story treatments.

@ferallemur9 жыл бұрын
+Tollinchi Family I recall from the old X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter game (which was so good - criminally under-appreciated) that the A-wing was the fastest ship. Less armored, not as heavily armed, but a good deal speedier and more maneuverable than the X-Wing. So the answer to your question is, "Guys who drive street racing cars." The guys who pour $15,000 into tricking out a car that only cost them $12,000 in the first place - those are your A-Wing pilots.

...For what it's worth, even if they DID happen to still be using George's original outlines, George seems like the type who would disavow any ownership of the story the very instant someone else changed anything about it. You may add to George, but you may not CHANGE George. If it's not 100% his idea, it's worthless and he wants nothing to do with it. I'm convinced this is why he insisted on writing, directing, and producing all three prequels, even though he would tell you himself he's not the best writer or director. I think that's why he kept adding to the "Special Editions" because they aren't enough HIS yet. And I heard his outline for Episode 7 may have had it's lead characters be little kids. We may have dodged a bullet.
