Hey there folks. I just want to pass along some of the joy I feel in my heart, and give others who may be in a dark place some hope today. I've been there. I've been following Raelan's suggestions in her videos and book for 6 months. I had severe CFS for 10+ years. For the first time in all these years I am seeing real change. I just returned from my 35 minute walk and caught myself dancing while doing some light chore. Most importantly, give yourselves lots of love and compassion throughout the process because we are dealing with such a unbelievably different journey. We are all worth it! Raelan, love you to bits!😁 B

Thank you so much for telling your story🥰 I’ve had CFS for 8 years and when looking at this now I can take in the words of how to do pacing and thinking of MYSELF first. I’ve tried pacing and for me (and my brain) it has been too challenging and got chaotic. Your story give me hope also❤️❤️

This is great advice. When I was first diagnosed with ME/CFS my then GP told me that I should compare it to bankruptcy. Even on good days you start off in the red, so managing energy use becomes a matter of survival, with self being the first creditor. It took me a very long time to become that organised as a mother of very young children with other demanding major familial issues, in fact a couple of decades!

What a great way to explain it! I can't even imagine Jan, what this is like with young children. I guess we just do what we can 💛

Great video.. just learning that pacing is the answer… I do an activity then rest and this happens throughout the day. I try and space my physical and mental activities out too so that there isn’t a physical activity followed by a physical activity… thank you so much for your videos ❤️

Always take deep breaths as much as you can 24/7 if possible, it teaches me to do everything in calmly fashion and not get over excited over anything. When I had it bad and I needed to work, I pushed through by doing deep breathing like almost second of my shift and it helped a lot.

Gosh... thanks for getting us grounded. I had the "pacing" process all wrong as I go about doing all my daily tasks and chores gingerly and not doing a great job if taking care of myself until those instances where I think hmmm.... I better slow down or I'll crash. Doing a quick reset starting now... to truly "Pay Myself First"! Great essential tip! Thank you Raelan!!

Good video and thanks for producing bite sized videos. Sometimes I see other blogs or videos on CFS/ME and they last far too long for people with limited attention/energy. By the way, I still help others and do small amounts of voluntary work. This is tremendously fulfilling and gives me a purpose in life. So for me it's a balance between me 1st and me 2nd.

Loved this Raelan. So very true. You can't give to anything if you can't give to yourself first. The same as you can't love others if you don't love yourself. It's all about being holistic and being real. Especially when we are experiencing a dip or a flare up in symptoms. Be kind to yourself. Not beat yourself up by saying. "Looking back I was doing to much, to soon". Like I did last week when I had my recent flare up. I'm finding recently though, that every flare up I have this fear has now presented itself. Such as, I would like to do this one minute of cleaning but if I do it may push me over and send me backwards.

Thanks for a great video Raelan, taking care of yourself first is what you have to do to help your body heal. I also find that it helps sometimes to give your body a day off for rest when your body warns you that you did too much the day before. You can always go back to what you had planned the next day, that method seems to work for me. I can tell you know CFS well Raelan, what you said makes sense.

Focusing on changing the things I may be doing that could be contributing to it, but some things are simply out of my control. Have any suggestions on how can explain to my caregivers - that the up & downs, backwards & forwards being a normal process in recovery? Appreciate any suggestions you can give me.

Yes that's a challenging one, isn't it Joanna. For me it was about doing it very slowly, and focusing my activity increase around things that were helping me recover (like stretching, building strength, as opposed to cleaning and so forth.)

How do you pace in this way if you have small children and a house to take care of.?
@RaelanAgle3 жыл бұрын
Hi Michelle, I can't even begin to imagine who challenging this all is with small children. I guess we do what we can - lower expectations on house work, ask others for help and support, and so on. I haven't gone through this with children, so any tips you have to share I'm sure would be appreciated by others who also have children ❤️
@anna-marieeasmus75293 жыл бұрын
I have had small children with cfs. It is very difficult, but I have learned to prioritize. I would say 1. Pay yourself first 2. Take care of the kids (basics) 3. Dishes and food 4. Laundry as able 5. The rest I would walk through the house every hour. The first hour was opening up windows and curtains. The second was picking up any dishes to take to the kitchen. Third hour was picking up laundry and put in washing mashine to wash. Just organising. I could not clean. I must admit I was probably a mild case. Now I can not do any of those things. Luckily my kids are teenagers now and they do some of the stuff. While you are sick a perfect / clean house is not a priority. My husband helped a lot as well.
@anna-marieeasmus75293 жыл бұрын
Walk throughs probably only take 2-3 minutes at a time. If possible sit on a couch /lie on the bed and read stories to your kids / watch a nice movie with them. Giving them positive mommy time is so important for all.

@@glazieledasilva32 I am so sorry you are going through this. It is a very difficult time, even without kids, but our mommy hearts and the basic needs of our kids just add on to this difficulty. I will pray that God will give you strength and wisdom. Do you have a helpful husband or a parent or sibling or even a friend that will be willing to help with some things like cooking or buying food? If it was not for my husband's help when I had bad relapses, I do not know what I would have done. 💐
