Excellent. I have been waiting for this for almost 2 weeks. Wish I had such a knowledgeable vet in my area. Tarantula vet medicine should be expanded on and more accessable to us keepers. Fantastic show Tom !!!

Thanks for doing these episodes! I now have Dr. Anderson's clinic bookmarked since I'm in the clinic's service area. I just recently added care info for all my tarantulas to my emergency information/contact sheet I keep on the fridge. I've lived on farms before (and a lifetime ago was a vet assistant), so DIY medical care was something I wasn't intimidated doing, but definitely feel better knowing there are experts out there.
@TomsBigSpiders Жыл бұрын
That's awesome! Adding the care info is an awsome idea. Yeah, I grew up on a farm, and we did a LOT of stuff by ourselves. I get it.

@@knyghtryder3599 thank you for your encouragement, I'm seriously considering it, as I'm a little older, I don't want to get one that would outlive me, I thought about getting a confirmed male, as they're not popular and giving him a boss life, as it hopefully won't outlive me.

I have been binge listening your podcasts and I want to say you sum it up perfectly when you explain why you like fossorials/ Ts you don’t see often. They are mysterious and when you do see them it’s a treat. I also have a thing for black & white colors on Ts too! Recently picked up a P. Regalis & H. Mac!

Thank you so much, Konrad! Yeah, with fossorial species, it's all in those few fleeting moments when you DO see them!

As much as I enjoyed Pt.1, I again appreciate Dr. Anderson's calm honesty with tricky subjects such as euthanasia and the implications of the cost of veterinary care should you choose to seek it out as these are major issues you need to consider with an invertebrate pet.

as i was starting to watch this, i notice a noise in my A. chalcodes enclosure. I look over and she has FINALLY flipped over to start her molt! I've had her since August of last year (she's maybe 4 inches all stretched out) and this is her first molt with me. it will be my first "bigger" spider to molt for me. my C. versicolor (got as a .5 inch sling) has obviously molted several times and is now up to around 1.5 inches. amazing to see their growth molt to molt.

I have a 4-inch female Tapiauchineus rasti sp. Union Island (Arboreal) who got herself caught up on the mesh of her exo-terra enclosure. She lost the 2 front legs on her left side. The legs completely grew back after a couple molts. I learned my lesson from that incident and have since swapped out all the exo-terra lids for my spiders. Even the arboreal species aren't safe from the mesh as I had heard they were several times before.
@TomsBigSpiders Жыл бұрын
Hello, Samantha! Thank you SO MUCH for chiming in with this. I, too, have had an arboreal become stuck in the mess, so it can happen with them as well. I get that some people might not ever have this issue (at least that they've seen), but it definitely happens and can be dangerous!

Cool to find out he is in my area. Only concern was seeing the website is he practices acupuncture and I can't find any evidence that it's more than just placebo for the owners. Little concerning as a vet, but this podcast was fun and interesting.

Has anyone tried spray-painting the screens? Not sure where I heard it but I think it would work. Probably 2-3 coats would completely smooth out and fill in where the strands cross... Keep 'em coming!
@TomsBigSpiders Жыл бұрын
That's an interesting idea, Jason. I just find it easier to pluck the screens out, but that could work as long as the paint didn't start to break and chip.

Have been waiting for part 2, and was well worth the wait. With the exo terra mesh lids, it was mentioned that there are replacements made for those not DIY savvy, or I was thinking so you could have 2 options instead of destroying one lid to create another version. Where can you buy tarantula safe replacement lids?

İ would recommend freezing only for very cold sensitive tropical species , that likely wouldnt survive until their tissue starts rupturing, like an equitoreal species not an arizona blond or something from south africa that would experience 40-50 degrees often in their home environment
