The sheep painting made my entire soul smile. Not only are sheep in general adorable, I think you did a great job capturing them! Your efforts to loosen up your style are really paying off already, and I can't wait to see more. I'll be keeping an eye on your teemill for sure

hehe yeah, re: the painted sheep. Where I used to live, in the Faroe Islands (I get the feeling you'd love it there), there were more sheep than people and you could see them wandering literally anywhere, including in the town. They were also often painted. It was always fun seeing the pink sheep. I really love their face patterns. They look like adorable little heavy metal fans. :')

Omg “adorable little heavy metal fans” ahahaha this is such a delightful description! That’s amazing that you lived in the Faroe Islands. I would loooovvveee to go there. It seems like such a beautiful place, and I’m sure it was a very inspiring place to live!

@@pepostudios I highly recommend visiting if you ever get the chance. It's like Iceland without all the tourists, and like stepping into the Hobbit, which is A+ in my books. Truly magical and the people are lovely.

I have just started on the path of surface pattern design and I am doing exactly what you are doing. I am using gouache in my sketchbook and working on how I want to hone in on my style for patterns. I also want to love my patterns. Keep doing what you are doing. Yes…I say make one of the thumbnails a large painting. I enjoy your videos.

Sarah, Thank you for sharing this! I’ve always wanted to go to Ireland and this makes me want to even more! How charming! I think you should definitely make these paintings. Especially since they clearly made you happy just adding them to your sketchbook. Would love to see on Teemill, as well. My fave was the cliffs :)

I definitely recommend an Ireland trip!! I’ve been twice before and both times were just such lovely experiences. I’m so glad to hear you liked the cliffs, and I definitely think I’ll paint at least one of these paintings full sized!

Hehe, I see you migrated to a smaller stay wet palette. :) Initially, I found your channel because of surface pattern design but I stay because your interest in different areas of art and your progress on your art journey. Everything we do day to day informs our art. So no worries if you feel something isn't related directly. And also, our portfolios are never really done. We evolve and grow and learn. Surface pattern designers are usually licensed per design so it will never be your only defining title. Your designs are fantastic because you approach the task with a curiosity and drive that is unique.

Hah, I love my big palette too, but sometimes it’s just a bit too big!! Thanks for leaving such a thoughtful comment. I totally agree that my art is informed by so much of my day-to-day and I want to take time to honor and develop my art practice rather than rushing towards some made up goal. That said, I think you’re right about the portfolio thing, and I’m sure there’s still so much room to grow and change even after I get licensed. Baby steps!

Aw, so cheery and cozy vid! I think maybe I stumbled onto your channel because of surface pattern design, but that’s not my focus. I just stay because I love your story and authenticity. I’ve found myself in a somewhat similar spot, but more with character design. I’m working on growing my skills there to then be able to create portfolio pieces that I’m proud of and happy with. Thanks for sharing your journey! :) Love all of your paintings, but I think the cliffs were my favorite! Just because they feel so majestic and that’s inspiring to me!

🥹🫶🏼 thank you for saying this! I appreciate your kind words SO much. Also, I think it’s so cool that you’re doing character design!! That’s one area of art that is soooo unknown to me, and I look up to every person who does it!

I think you did great with those sketches. They are detailed enough to communicate all necessary information to understand what is going on in the paintings. Loved sheep. But I like first sketch with cliffs more, colors are so beautiful. What about painting full scale cliffs with a couple sheep on them? I started following you because of your surface pattern design videos. I want to go that route too with my art. But, recently, I came to the same conclusion as you did. I want to improve my art skill first. I want to do not only SPD but illustrations as well. I support you 100%, girl. Create whatever your heart is leaning to. Enjoy the journey! P.S. Your cats are so spoiled
@pepostudios7 ай бұрын
Thank you so much!! I agree - I’m so pleased with how the colors turned out in the cliffs painting. They’re so saturated and beautiful! It’s really comforting to know that you’ve come to similar conclusions in your own journey. I just don’t think there’s a need to rush through this, and I know that building my art foundations will never be a bad idea. I appreciate your encouragement so much!! P.S. LOL you are so right 😂 My cats have very bad manners hahaha (it’s my fault lol)

One thing that’s turned me a bit off by surface pattern design is the super biz side of things / “commercial art” “find your style and stick to it” etc. I feel like the point of having a creative biz/practice is to always explore & grow.
@pepostudios7 ай бұрын
For sure, I think it’s so important to continue exploring and growing as an artist! It definitely seems like there has to be a balance between the business side of things and the creative exploration side, and it’s something I’m still trying to figure out…
@HannahMorenDraws7 ай бұрын
@@pepostudios I don't think anyone ever gets it perfectly balanced. I definitely have leaned too hard into the "constantly learning but making no money" part of creative practice (if you want to make it a biz too.)
