Your guitar was built sometime between 2012-17 and has a rosewood fretboard. You can tell this by the Sigma branding text on the headstock which is the old Martin style text. AMI changed the fretboard wood on most of their guitars to Micarta (wood substitute) in mid 2017 at the same time they changed the sigma headstock text to a different and later Sigma styling (which was introduced on some of their guitars in the mid 70's) to better differentiate their guitars from actual Martins.

In the early 80s Martin collaborated with Takamine to manufacture guitars in Japan. They set up a factory and had Martins people and plans. Before completion, Takamine was sold to Kaman. Kaman was the parent company of Ovation, a major competitor of Martin at the time. Kaman killed the deal with Martin allowing Takamine to move forward with production of Martin clones under their own name. Those guitars were of astonishing quality and value. They even copied the Martin style logo for a time. I was a Takamine dealer in those days and still have a dozen in my collection. Martin soon after released the Sigma line. I didn’t sell them but I have played several and they are very nice indeed.

As far as I can remember there is a connection between Sigma and Martin guitars. I think it might have been one of the luthiers from Martin set up Sigma guitars

I have a 000 17...id say the triple ought...category...is the ONLY one I'd say, just get a Pennsylvania Martin I have a Larrivee D03 and it's great too...but the Martin smell, the playability...I mean it plays as effortlessly as a Casio keyboard...I don't have another acoustic on that level Here's why I'm saying anything though Martin 000 17- $1500 ish Canadian Sigma 000 17- roughly $800 in Canada Id pay the extra for the quality and resale. It's not that much more for a lot more guitar..That Martin...even my x series Martin is better in some ways than my all solid guitars..

Sigma makes great guitars. I have a Martin D-18 and a Gibson J-35 and I miss my Sigma, all solid wood, SDM-ST. The new Sigma logo is ugly, I miss their Martin look-alike logo

My thoughts exactly! I bet they had to change it cause it was too similar

Not available in USA.
@Edward131215 күн бұрын
They are but they are branded differently as either kindred or AMI. The reason for this is because Alvarez own the leasing rights to the Sigma branding name in the US (Not AMI who only own the Sigma branding rights to the rest of the World).

@@Edward1312 "kindred".. AMI Alvarez ? Presuming this... are the designs, materials and workmanship the same ?
@Edward131215 күн бұрын
@@jeffhildreth9244 With Kindred and AMI its exactly the same guitar. Alvarez do not make Martin copies they just use the Sigma name on some of their own designs.
