Pamela Krist Atwood is a gerontologist, psychotherapist, and dementia specialist who coaches families through the overwhelming process of progressive dementia. She's also the author of a new children's book: "Auntie P, Music & Me."
My late-husband was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2016. I understood the neurologist's words but I had no concept of the implications dementia would have on our lives. Pam helped me through that fog.
In this interview, I asked Pam about:
the stigma of dementia
the challenges children have in understanding dementia
at what stage in the caregiving process are families most receptive to talking with their children and grandchildren about dementia
We also talked about her personal reasons for writing this book.
Pam counsels families in person and online. To learn more, visit her website: atwooddementia...
