Thousands of girls and women have been kidnapped over the decades in China. Experts say the major reason behind the trafficking of women is gender imbalance sparked by the country’s previous one-child policy, which has led to parents favouring boys over girls. Many of the abducted girls or women remain missing despite a government pledge to severely crack down on child trafficking. Among the parents still looking for their missing children is Beijing resident Yau Fuji, who has vowed to continue a 15-year search for his daughter, who went missing when she was just 14 years old.

China used to have serious problems of girls being kidnapped, and sold to remote villages as brides. Though the crime is disappearing, but the old cases are still resurfacing from time to time.

@Nancy Samuelson It's almost certainly what happened to her. Some couples in remote Chinese villages would pay their life-saving to buy a bride for their son. The girl would be confined, sometimes chained like an animal, just to reproduce to carry on the family lineage. Some girls lose sanity after some years. Horror as such are still being uncovered nowadays. You can search 'Xuzhou Fengxian chained woman', a hotly discussed case in China this year.

@Nancy Samuelson Women aren’t cargo, they can’t be imported. And China doesn’t have an active pro-immigration policy. Only as recent as 2018, China started to allow foreigners to obtain Chinese ID, and live like a citizen. I heard they approved nearly 300 applications in the first 12 months. Still, the policy can’t be gender based.

@Nancy Samuelson that's a really cruel comment. A lot of families don't have the luxury of a parent able to stay at home. Both parents must work. Especially in certain parts of China I have watched documentaries about parents who have to go elsewhere for work and leave the children behind. It's heartbreaking.

authorities really do need to start going into those rural villages and start investigating I feel like that's where some kids might be just look at that case of the woman that was chained up in a shed, either way I pray for her and all the missing children to be found and for their families to find closure 🙏

They are taking it very seriously since recent years. There is thousands of kicknapped kids sent back to their family. But that's a long and difficult process. You see the evidence are very slim. The authorities basically need to go to every town to check if someone looks like her.

Watching the love this father has for his daughter in his search for 15 yrs is so heart breaking. And it also pains me since I have a father who sees daughters as worthless. When I was a baby, he tried giving me away twice to one of his childless sisters. My mom had to make up for trying to keep me by bearing a son which she did. My entire life even into adulthood I endure a father who constantly reminded me that I was expendable and without value to him. I know if this were me, my own father would probably not spend a month looking for me, if at all. He would for my younger brother but certainly not for me.

It looks as though he's traveling through densely populated cities. If she was kidnapped and trafficked due to the lack of women, it's likely that she's alive and being held hostage as the wife of a farmer in a remote area, not anywhere inside a city. His family paid a high price for her, so she's probably guarded from escaping day and night. His motorbike is a glaring red flag for anyone with stolen wives to hide them indoors when he travels through. He may have come through the town his daughter was in already, but never would have known it since they'd hide her indoors. He'd be better off traveling to small farming villages with a blank car, and walking around the neighborhoods pretending to need directions. While doing this, peer into the gardens, backyards, and kitchen windows for any woman that looks like his daughter. The pain on this man's face tears at my heart. I hope he finds her, but he needs to change his approach. The place where she is likely doesn't have social media, and if it does her kidnapper family won't allow her on it.

It is not fair for parents to lose their daughters to human trafficking. They are the ones who truly loved their only child that happened to be females despite the preferences for males during the one-child policy. Are you so selfish as to give birth to a son and then purchase him a wife, the girl that was stolen from her family who actually loved her? I have heard crazy things from my Chinese father that cases existed where first-time girl infants had been abandoned and denied by their parents just because they preferred to have a male child instead. It's just so devastating to know that these parents have lost their only child that they actually treasured, despite being females, and the only persons who they relied on to take care of them when they become old.

I hope this family can find answers. It must be awful to be the parent of a missing child. These families should take dna tests and be in a database. That way, if someone who is missing happens to take a test, or if someone is related to them that the family doesn’t know about, they can get more answers.

It's strange but today l went shopping in Gastown, Vancouver, BC Canada and l saw an adult woman with her older Caucasian boyfriend in the store with similar features... I noticed her because l thought she was a pretty, petite Asian girl so she stood out in that part of town. I don't think it was necessarily the same person in the photo though . It's heartbreaking to lose a child. I hope they can all be re united again one day. It's really tough because for so many Chinese couples, they were only allowed one child as dictated by their government
