In China’s southwestern Yunnan province, two-year-old Haoyang may only have a few months to live because he suffers from a rare genetic disorder called Menkes syndrome. In a desperate effort to save his dying son, Xu Wei has assembled a home laboratory to try and create a treatment for his child. The disease is incurable, and an experimental drug that could help ease his son’s symptoms is not available in China. Xu says he was left with no choice but to teach himself to recreate the drug.

Dude as a former molecular biologist, this guy is nothing short of a genius. The type of lab work he was doing can be difficult even for someone with a master’s degree, but he achieved it in a meager SIX MONTHS from secondary school level with his own equipments! After he finishes taking care of his son, he definitely should get a formal education in that field, because he is truly gifted.

@@bdstudios6088 that's not the point of my comment. It isn't talking specifically about this video here, but the idea of how easy it is to manipulate people. Social media, major news, work of mouth, and people just listen to it and then spread missinformation everywhere. The fact that you didn't get that in the first place already lets me know that you are the same as these other people. I never once mentioned I knew the facts of this video here. Reread my message again and stop thinking so surface leveled. Now try again. Original comment just said something and regardless if it was true or false that is not the point of my response. It was that the other people just believed it without question. It seems like such a miniscule issue, but its that exact thing that shapes the world into the horrible state its in these days.

Reminded me of Darren Aronofsky’s The Fountain. Wasn’t the biggest fan of it but it was a compelling film nonetheless. It’s about a man trying to desperately find a cure his wife’s cancer himself, that’s his life’s work, until she dies. And he has these visions of his ancestors, of him in another life where similar tragedy happens. Until his wife inevitably dies, and he comes at peace with the fact that it’s too late, and he should have spent more of time with her instead of curing her. Not that similar to the movie but close enough. I do hope for the best for him and his son.

Absolute respect for the guy indeed. However, given the fact that he's ventured out and learned enough pertinent things in biology and chemistry to try and engineer a cure for his son's genetic disease, constraining his education level to that of being secondary school level and his lack of chemistry knowledge at the time of synthesizing said formula is incorrect. Learning and mastery isn't mutually exclusive with formal schooling, and you often consolidate the majority of your actual education through your work/career.

@@UnityAgainstJewishEvil I read the article. He is an amateur chemist. he turned his gym into a laboratory. And he's doing home therapy by making medicine by himself. There are now companies willing to help find a cure or treatment for his son. His story became a sensation and that is what prompts companies trying to help him. Which is lucky for him but he is still doing home therapy. He needs to give up on home therapy and just go with the doctor's prescriptions/recommendations

@@meowmur302 he is making his own compared to the experimental medicine he needs to buy but not available in his country. Both medicines; the one he is developing on versus the fda approved experimental drug that is available but hard to get are similar but made by two different people. The dad is an amateur chemist with only a high-school diploma while the experimental drug is made by a team of scientists and researchers that knows what they are doing.

Different fathers show love in different ways because people are different. Or perhaps your view of him caring for you doesn't coincide with his view of him caring for you.

Parents with sick child especially the one who is terminaly ill like him, are more likely to developed PTSD and will get ultraoverprotective towards their children once they got older, if the kid able to survive their childhood. I hope he can recognize the limit when he reached it someday and make a peace out of it... Cause afterall its genetic flaw that his son developed. Life in this world are short and what human can do with it is just to do the best they can on what ever situation they are in and whatever the result is, everyone dies eventually its just a matter of time...
