So good to have Michael Potts back at the Chateau, he always brings an extra layer of warmth and calm to the already lovely atmosphere at La Lande. He is such a multi-talented and visually appealing man, what's not to love? I am glad that you have such lovely friends and family as you face the troubling and stressful issues brought out by the renovation project (maybe it was a blessing to have found it now, before an even bigger catastrophe occurred). Wishing you a great Holiday Season and a quick resolution to every renovation hiccup you encounter.

A show about a wonderful group of family and friends, French history, architecture, wines, costuming, art, travels in Europe, interior design, chateaus, gardening, porcelain and cutlery, wallpaper, restoration, forestry, landscape design, woodworking, great cooking, and above all - bread and cheese. It simply does not get better than this. PS. Dampers will give you control over how hot your log burners run so you're not heated out of a room. Won't go through firewood so quickly either.

Haha Stephanie you're a blast! 😂 This was a real treat to watch. I could watch Mr Potts bake bread all night, he's dishy! 😍 And the bread and cheese looked positively yummy too hihi! You're absolutely right about caraway, my only trouble with caraway and cumin is the total linguistic confusion. Caraway is Kümmel in German but Kummin in Swedish. Cumin on thr other hand is Kreutzkummel in German and Spiskummin in Swedish. And confusing the two when using foreign recepies is sortof disastrous. You don't want cummin on your Guylás, or caraway on your kebabs. I remember eating bread from a bakery with lots of cumin in it, quite clearly a misunderstanding of the language lol 🙊. You are so lucky to have so many creative friends and family in your house dear. This calendar is a veritable showcase of all the Lalanders & friend's special talents ending with something extremely tasty every day. Now that's what I call a proper advent calendar! Its been a long time since i splurged on cheese (SO expensive here now and I *really* don't need to put on weight now that I'm alone) but now I'm going to have to take a trip to my favourite cheese shop for sure. I'm gaining weight just looking at this you guy's, so Lord have mercy!😂🥰😉

With the vacherin Mont D’or, you can cut a little cross into it, pour some white wine into it and pop it into the oven for about ten minutes and eat with bread or small potatoes like fondue. It’s called a « boîte chaude ». Just make sure to put some tin foil around the box so the wine stay inside. Mont D’or is produce in both France and in Switzerland.

About the bread… the cling film needs to just be only at the top of the bowl, allowing the air bubbles to expand the bread, more than doubling it. After the first proof you roll it out and put on the fruit, roll it up and shape into a round or loaf. Proof again and bake. Putting the cling directly on the dough kept it from rising and doubling. Making it too dense. I was a gourmet restaurant pastry chef and bread baker for 8 years, I made 350 pieces of bread 6 days a week, wheat, French and herb bread. I love to garden and Cook… someday I hope to volunteer at your beautiful Chateau. Until then sending warm wishes for a Merry Christmas

It's such a french thing that your local petrol station is the best cheese shop. I guess that would explain why the lobster truck parks near our gas station here in Nova Scotia. It's obviously a cultural thing. I love that you forgot the sugar and then the dates for the Christmas cake. It will make for a great story for Christmases to come.

Rural France 🇫🇷 is as beautiful, as anywhere in the 🌎 world! Stephanie, try putting a 30inch box fan, at the doorway between the too warm room, and the colder room. Turn the fan on high, and blow the hot air into the cold room, it will really help spread it around! I know this sounds elementary at best, but it honestly works well! I have done it many times here, using one big window AC unit to cool a whole apartment! Where I live here in the Keys, we make do with what’s available! AC here is also expensive! Cheers! Thomas!

Hi, Stephanie. Little tip: For the next tine you’re looking for a slightly warm place to make the bread dough rise, try putting it into the oven with only the light of the oven on. It gives enough heat for the bread to rise without being too hot. This is works if the oven is not on and obviously if you don’t need to use it.
