I was a teen visiting grandparents in Russelville Ark the day he went on his downtown rampage. All the local radio stations stopped playing music. And were calling out his locatin. The whole town went on lock down My grandpa had a police scanner that was normally quiet exploded with activity. The Russelville pd was running from secene to secene. The Pope county sheriffs office were sending all available deputies into town. It was a tense few hours. . My friend from church was good friends with Simmons teenage daughter not the one who was raped, but the 17 year old that was killed on Christmas. A few weeks after the police investigation the Simmon's property was mysteriously burned down. In 87 Russelville was a sleepy little town.

I went to college in Russellville, AR. My health/pe professor made us go on a trip to a nearby hiking trail for class one day. On the way, he began talking about this case. He then decided to take a detour. He ended up taking us to the location of this massacre! He showed us the large hole and everything!🤢

Couldn’t agree more. True crime content has its own television networks. It has its own section on virtually every streaming service. Commercials run like crazy on those shows, too. But the fact of the matter is…KZbin classifies my content as the same as people who upload footage of people dying in natural disasters or horrible accidents, or graphic videos from wartime scenarios. When advertisers want to run ads on KZbin, KZbin gives them certain genres to choose from for their ads to run on. For instance, if an advertiser is promoting a certain product that’s aimed at a female demographic, aged between 18-34, they’re going to check off content boxes that say shit like “lifestyle vlogging” or “health and beauty”. And many of these companies would also run their ads and check off on a box for “true crime docuseries (or whatever)” but there is no box for true crime. There’s only ONE box that says “controversial content/violence/war/natural disasters/etc.” And THAT is where they put true crime-in THAT category. Buried in with content of people uploading car accidents and people doing reckless stunts and injuring themselves. And y’know what? Not many brands want their products on videos of people being stupid and getting hurt or killed. Go figure. But true crime shouldn’t be in there. It should have its own box. KZbin needs to start some kind of “trusted creator” system where they allow advertisers to comfortably run ads on creators who have been vetted and are confirmed to make legitimate true crime content. Not just posting sensationalized viral videos of people getting eaten by a shark. But alas, KZbin doesn’t care. I just hope one day they see reason with all of this.

Whether the wars he had served affected his mental state or not, it doesn't excuse the twisted (and gruesome) crimes he had committed against his entire family. It's a tragedy (even on Christmas) that sometimes there are those people like Simmons that would harbor something horribly dark within themselves. Then I find it morbidly ironic that the good Gene only took his name from another musician after coming to the US, but played a "demon" on stage, whereas this Gene really was one.
