Madonna's music video was about the idea of a woman taking her aggression out on men which is something even MTV was unable to accept. And that really is what it feels like for a girl. The video was criticized for its depiction of violence and abuse, which caused MTV to ban it before 9:00 pm.

This is not the original song, it’s the remix. The original one off the album "music” has more lyrics and is not as upbeat. They’re both great songs and the video was directed by her then husband Guy Ritchie. I feel the video is pure fantasy of a woman getting her frustrations out. Maybe it’s from the perspective of the old woman and she fantasizes being young again and doing all those things. Anyway, thanks for another great Madonna reaction!

It’s about double standards in society for women- female rage. MTV had an issue with this video, because of the violence, however, this sort of stuff was all over the place in society when men depict violence towards each other.

The quote in the beginning of the song is from a novel by Ian McEwan. It isn‘t about a boy wanting to look like a girl, but rather about how femininity is regarded as weak and fragile, yet masculinity as strong, and that‘s why society accepts women in men‘s clothing but not the other way around. In a sense it‘s about feminism and how women are still regarded as inferior in today‘s society.

This music video was directed by her then husband Guy Ritchie. You missed the part where she rammed her yellow tThunderbird into the 3 guys' car who she winked at and the part where she drove into the guy who was pumping gas into his red Thunderbird and stole it from and then dropped a lighter onto the spilled gas to blow up the gas station and kill the guy. The spoken word part was taken from the movie The Cement Garden and the actress doing the spoken word is Charlotte Gainsbourg. You should check out the album version of this song and the Brixton Academy performances of this song and the rest of this show.

Don’t listen to the people saying the original was country. Those people have no idea what real country music is. It was not even remotely country. It was a straight up pop song and it was brilliant and its message was a masterpiece. I remember being furious that this is the version she released as a single. Her longtime fans all knew she did it so her then husband would think she’s “cool”… so cringe. Don’t get me wrong. This video is killer. But the original album version is poetic and thoughtful and earnest and beautiful.

As some people have commentated commented the video uses the audio from the Above and Beyond remix, which as you identified is trance style. Funny story about this remix Madonna not her team were commissioned to provide an official remix. But they had created a rough version of this to drop into their DJ sets. Anyway their manager sent a copy off to Maverick records (the record label she co owns with her manager) M heard it anf loved so she wanted it to be featured on all the releases as a B side to give a real juxtaposition to the album version. The video was Indeed directed by her then husband writer and director Guy Richie. The two of them came up with the idea of what a woman driving around LA doing all the things that are sterotyplce male. It would be great to hear you doing a reaction to the album version. It's like night and day in style and tone. She wrote it when she was heavily pregnant with Rocco and it contains a lot of angst. There is also a beautiful live version which she performed on her Drowned World tour. It is set in the Senurita section of the show and it is sung in word perfect Spanish, while she dances the tango with female dancers dressed in male clothing. She also wears a black dress and black heels. The dress on the front is a long floor length dress but from behind it is back less and you can see that from behind she is wearing a pair of mens trousers. ❤❤

As a man myself, and a gay man at that, it can still be difficult to see the differences in the way men and women are treated. Some of it is intentional, some of it is completely unintentional. Yes, the video touches on the fact that it's (even to this day) much more acceptable for women to dress up in men's attire than vice versa, although that is slowly changing, especially in the larger cities. It also deals with how the music/entertainment industry encourages men to continue singing/performing until they croak, whereas women are often strongly encouraged to retire after so many years. This was about her having fun, while at the same time touching some real life issues. 👑 🇺🇸💙🇬🇧
