A city without graffiti is a city without soul
Futuristic abstract mathematics, alphabetical constructivism, brutally refined. The art of Didier Jaba Mathieu grows from his extensive travels and background as a graffiti writer which is evident in the complex alchemy of his illustrations and digital paintings. Born in Armenia, Colombia, Jaba moved to Liège, Belgium at the age of 14 to further his studies at St. Luc Institution of Arts specializing in illustration. He exhibited widely in art galleries around Europe and South America before relocation to Singapore to join Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), a division of Lucasfilm Ltd where he worked as a concept artist and digi-matte painter on feature films such as Transformers, Iron Man and Star Trek.
Jaba continues to practice on multidisciplinary levels and participates in countless graffiti performances all over Europe, South America, Africa and Asia. As an extension to his enthusiasm and enery for illustration, Jaba also lectured at Nanyan Polytechnic, Singapore, focusing on Matte

I hate when people want a city to be clean and plain because then more tourists will visits but really it just gives the place a vibrant and beautiful landscape

I kinda disagree with what he said about if nature and man were in balance there would be no need for graffiti. cuz even when things were balanced there was some thug ass caveman putting his tag up on cave walls.

Graffiti is a desperate attempt by the powerless to make a statement, however it defaces the work of millions of stone masons, architects, carpenters, brick layers, trade union workers and craftspeople of past ages. Graffiti is the untrained etching of millions of frustrated kids with paint cans. In a better world these kids would be trained in color, perspective, dimension, draughting, preparing a ground, choosing a subject, etc and their "tags" would be brilliant objects worth looking at. As it is now they copy one another for the most part, as witnessed by the fact that you see the same tags from Buenos Aires to Montreal, from Quito to Madrid and it's visually boring.

when you say 'kids would be trained in color, perspective, dimension, draughting, preparing a ground, choosing a subject, etc' this is just getting rid of those personalities and uniqueness that come with graffiti. With graffiti there are no boundaries, you dont have to worry about staying inside the lines of society. The reason you say every tag is bland is because you havent GENUINELY taken a good look at them. Society tells you a certain type of art IS art, and a certain type ISNT art and you just blindly listen and agree. Some of these pieces take hours, days even do draw and create.

You're are just saying that because of the white supremacist system you are blind too and blindly follow , its Urban Art , not valueless graffiti , free your mind from the slave mentality , you don't have to wear chains anymore.

slave mentality? wear chains anymore …riiight haha who are you dude, huey freeman? graffiti exist outside of "urban" landscapes, its an expression a movement and a mentality like hip hop or punk. not saying you have not BUT you most likely never dedicated most your time and love into the graffiti world and lifestyle its something thats a part of the person who creates it not where its created
