As a first time reader ( yes I’ve been living in a hole ) I am sooo loving these books so far. Just finished CoK and was desperate to hear all your thoughts!! The ‘come to Jesus talk’ that Catelyn and Jaime have at the end was awesome. I don’t care what y’all say I like her!! Davos POV during the battle was stunning! Though I loved the different views of the same experience. Just WOW. I really think I’m going to have to hold off watching you all past this point though because I’m hearing things I shouldn’t know yet, yes I know it’s a re-read for you all but I couldn’t help myself from listening to your thoughts because it’s part of the experience for me. I’ll be back soon!

So I just found these re read videos post house of the dragon. Really enjoying so far. One point on Qhorin = Arthur Dayne it's worth remembering the Daynes are not of Valyrian origin but DO have purple eyes. That would stand out to anyone up in the black and white frozen North. As for Cat, I love her. She is one of George's greatest creations. So much pathos and so devastatingly well written. Theon, oh Theon. What an amazingly told arc in this book and what a moment the Ramsay Snow reveal is. 👏🏻

I saw an interview with Diana Gabaldone (who wrote outlander) and she was talking about having monthly lunch dates with GRRM (they live in the same city and are friends) and she was talking about having conversations with GRRM about him being stuck and unable to finish writing because he’d set up a plot line that he now regrets and can’t figure out how to change it. This was maybe 5/6 years ago.

Pretty sad to hear honestly. I hope he's able to figure things out.

One of the saddest things in the last couple of seasons was that every smart character's IQ was cut in half. Little Finger, Varys and Tyrion especially come to mind

Man... thinking about the sheer scope of this series is crazy; there are thousands of moving parts. But I have a feeling that, because it ballooned out so much, George has absolutely no idea how to finish the story. He's a discovery writer, not much of a planner. Also, I think the decision to scrap the 5 year timeskip that was supposed to happen after Storm, works in some ways but also introduces a lot of issues. The reason there are so many kids in the story, was supposed to be because they'd all be adults in the second half. And there's clearly a lot of setup for it that gets scrapped. Smaller characters that were introduced in book 3, like Edric Dayne, were clearly set up to be important only to be rewritten out of the story. I'd love to hear you guys analyze the timeskip once you get to books 3 or 4.

okay im sorry if I'm the only theon stan in the comments, but @1:11:30, i just wanna point out, that Jon is 14, but was raised his whole life by the loving and honorable Starks! meanwhile, Theon was like, 10! when he was shipped off as a hostage. older than bran, the Only remaining son of Balon Greyjoy. so he Was raised in the ironborn culture, before being displaced into the north, which i think plays a lot into how and why he's so different than Jon there

I always just thought of Stannis as a person that´s very true to his ideals of justice and just not very social therefore he doesn´t really get others. And Catlyn´s instincts are great? She made Ned go to King´s Landing to be Hand and then started a war on the word of Littlefinger of all people after telling Ned Robert isn´t the same person he knew 9 years ago tho she saw Littlefinger 15 years ago by kidnapping Tyrion. She also made Robb give the command of his foot soldiers to Lord Roose Bolton. So yeah she was one time right to trust her instincts but that´s it

1:10:10 I have a theory that Theon got the captain's daughter pregnant whey they were sailing to Pyke. Later she keeps calling to him wanting to be his salt wife. I was thinking, "did she realize she was pregnant? He can't be that good."

I always wonder if there's more to the red door than just being a symbolic representation of Daenerys's idyllic childhood. Like, it's mentioned enough that I wonder if there's something more going on there. No idea what lol

I think you're gonna love Bernard Cornwell's action sequences, as a Gwynne fan. Also Liene's right, Abercrombie's the GOAT. Swapping Roose for Tywin at Harrenhal was easily the best decision the showrunners made. I think its way more likely that Mance Raydar is Arthur Dayne than Rhaegar. Jaime Lannister is probably my favourite character in ALL of Fantasy. I don't buy Azor Ahai is the hero the legends make him out. GRRM has said not to trust it. Sounds more like a villain to me.
