"In regards to cannon... We're making this shit up." - GRRM
@knoahbody692 жыл бұрын
He does have a point. Canon is well, not useful as an idea. And GRRM is right about history. History is literally a Lie we tell ourselves. For example, Smedley Butler, Two Time MOH recipient, Major General, USMC is famous for being an two time MOH recipient, but what isn't well known is he wrote a book called "War is a Racket". He also stood up for "The Bonus Army" in the great depression. He was also asked to lead a coup against FDR but instead turned in the Coup leaders, one of which was DuPont, of the DuPont Corporation, and the other was Prescott Bush, Father of George Bush and Grandfather of George W. Bush.

I'm a former actor (I have a BFA in theatre and worked professionally [edit to add: in film, TV and theatre] for 15 yrs before needing to stop due to disability) and I'm pausing at the point where he's explaining the role of the producer and I'm SO glad y'all asked such great and detailed questions. With Szn 2 of HotD being so hated by fans, I'm sitting here w my experience of working in film and TV not just as an actor, but a 1st AD, a production manager, script supervisor, among many roles I've worked in production (I've done more in theatre, like I helped run the Fringe festival in my city as the assistant GM of the festival one yr). Anyway, I've been researching making content on this myself because I'm so FRUSTRATED at the public being so ignorant about how Hollywood works. I'm a nobody, I never "made it" the way GRRM did, but even w my experience I'm constantly arguing with ppl and it's SO frustrating dealing w their Dunning Kruger effect, while I have actual lived experience and I know why Szn 2 was trash (writer's strike showing how important re-writes are to the final product + Zazlav's greed and how finance bros shouldn't be in charge of what art gets made and they shouldn't have any input on the creative process, unless there's HR violations) and i've been trying to find proof of GRRM having explained this [edit to clarify: roles of different ppl on the production team, how Hollywood works, basically this entire interview y'all did TWO YRS AGO] already and now I have it. THANK YOU!!!! I'm so tired of ppl who know nothing (Jon Snow) telling me I'm wrong. Maybe they'll believe it coming out of George's mouth

Having a black Valyrians doesn’t invalidate his writing. Back in the 90’s when he wrote ASOIAF, biracial relationships were still seen as tricky in Hollywood. Hell making any of your main characters black was usually frowned upon. In Night Crawler, he wanted his main female protagonist to be black. The publisher said he’ll no because no one would buy his book. I know these things because I’m mixed and I care about my heritage. I was born in the 70’s and lived through it. I have no idea why some get so caught up on ethnic preference of actors. In theater and music, we don’t. We cast the best person for the role. There will always be people who bitch about it. Fuck them. Let ‘em hate while the rest f us enjoy the show! 🍻

Given that he said that he did not want to attack fans while answering my question (thereby implying that he was kinda tempted to do it and was trying to refrain), I now get to say that GRRM personally attacked me! :D (Which absolutely is an honor. I am quite pleased). Thank you for including my question! He somehow managed to provide more and also less of an answer than I was hoping for, but it was fascinating all the same. I am extremely grateful to you for including it. I am sorry that I used up twenty-two minutes of this seventy-minute-long interview, though; I certainly was not expecting that and feel bad for having hogged so much of the time. I feel like I could just listen to him talk forever. He has such an incredible mind. Great recall it seems (I did not fact-check but he certainly seems to know his stuff), a lot of experience and random knowledge, a great appreciation for perspectives and the complexities of the world, and such brilliant creativity. He has enriched so many lives. P.S.: I am really curious about whether other Valyrian families had dragon dreams now. This is brilliant! Thank you! How incredible. I always think it would be wonderful to have George as a grandad. Imagine the games and world he could create in just one game! A maestro indeed. Also I would want to play with the miniatures but I don't think would happen 😂😂children and collectibles don't often mix.

For some reason it makes me very happy that George is a cat person.

I couldn’t imagine him not being a cat person. 😂

Lol, I find it funny how the interviewers start getting upset with the notion that canon doesn't really exist or matter. I do find it interesting how this idea of what is or isn't canon has become so incredibly important and contentious to so many people of different fandoms. I do feel like this is a relatively new phenomena. I doubt the people of ancient Greece concerned themselves much with which tales of Odysseus were really canon or not. Heck even more recently did audiences of the 60's and 70's really wonder or care if the bond of the Roger Moore films was the same Bond of the Sean Connery films?
