Some Horror films I find out about for the first time, not by coming across a trailer, but by seeing a FoundFlix 'Ending Explained' pop up in my YT feed. Then I'll go check the trailer, steal it off PB, watch, then come back HERE. So thanks for another potential gem!

I love horror movies but one thing I will never understand why people in those movies almost always go up stairs like in the attic or in a room with only one way out
@jacksyoutubechannel40452 жыл бұрын
The best "Your phones are desensitizing you to people in distress right in front of you" message was in _Black Mirror's_ "White Bear." Unfortunately, it's since become so much of a trope that we're almost calloused to the callousness of people merely watching the distress of others. The worst example of this in recent memory now sounds like a overdone movie premise: a woman in Philadelphia was raped on the subway while ten witnesses filmed, but did not intervene.

@alexia44312 жыл бұрын
See, I didnt actually mind this movie that much. But that's because the description on netflix unfortunately said "cabin in the woods meets midsommar" which ultimately made me think "oh well if its cabin in the woods like, that means someone is being filmed" so ultimately, the twist wasnt very impactful to me :( I wonder if I would have been just as annoyed as you at the hamfisting of horror tropes if I hadn't read the description.

Maybe her mom did it in a really mean or nasty way in the movie, I don't know I haven't seen it or that scene, but just off the description alone I don't totally disagree with the mom. Like yo, we put in a LOT of money into your college, at least finish it first before doing whatever you're going to do. At least have that one thing for your resume even if you go off to do something entirely different (on your own dime).

Regarding being desensitized i feel a lot of people that critique society for it forget that we are so much more interconnected nowadays than before. When someone dies on the other side of the world we know thanks to the internet. We know that every single day thousands of people die horrific deaths, that there are so many murders left unsolved, even serial killings, there are people out there who are genuinely dangerous and are living their best life, and we know all of this. We are desensitized, yes, because it is a necessity. If we felt for every single death or every single violent crime there is in the world, we would be depressed and maybe even insane. Sadly that also translates to violence and death that happens around us.

Berserk is a mixture of many horror artists. Miura was inspired by Clive Barker's Hellraiser, Beksinski's and Bosch's paintings, religion and many, many more. Apostle designs are like 1:1 description of Old Testimony angels.

Just a couple of things you can only notice if you are Italian: while Elisa's and Riccardo's accent is pretty plain (although not inexistent), which is kinda standard for actors, Fabrizio's calabrian accent is as thick as it gets, marking a separation between the three (Calabria is a whole region, not a town, btw). Fabrizio, Chiara and the singing child often times speak dialect, especially in the more "frantic" moments, which is pretty difficult to understand and at times require subtitles for Italians too, so again, Elisa must feel extremely out of place. I feel like, while the movie is very well made, it can be too "out of there" for an Italian audience, I will try to summarize why: 1) Osso, Mastrosso and Carcagnosso are indeed the supposed founders of the Mafia, but their names sound really funny, thant kind of funny that would make a child chuckle, not exactly names you would cower at. Imagine them being called Tweedledee, Tweedledum and Rumplestinstkin. Yeah, not very intimidanting. 2) As you can imagine, the perception of the mob in Italy is quite different and the whole "the mafia is changing, we make snuff movies now" is so ridiculous it breaks the tension. I could not make a comparrison for an American audience, but do you all recall Scary movie 3 and those shenanigans between the USA president and the aliens? Him being a bloody moron making a fool of himslef? Well, the mafia in A classic horror story is the president of the USA in Scary movie 3. 3) The scene where Chiara argues with her brother is just hilarious. She in particular gesticulates way too much, especially for a girl that age, and although I get she is supposed to be much more mature and "ruthless" it feels a little too much. At times it all feels like a stereotype of people from Southern Italy. Jm2c PS: don't Mark and Sophia have a weird accent? It felt to me like they were pretending to be native English speakers.

I like to alternate between you and Oliver Harper's retrospectives, I wonder if you know that channel? Logan's run is a perfect one to start off with. OH gives a bit more context around the films developments but that also means his vids can be very long and require more focus to enjoy sometimes.

I will admit thought, the end on the beach took me out a little. I know what they were tryig to say, but it was so on the nose it hit the threshold for my "suspension of disbelief" meter.
