A Classic Mack MR Leach 2Rll Rear Loader Garbage Truck from LRS!

While on my way to go film in the north suburbs of Chicago, I saw this truck turn into an alley in the distance and my plans changed immediately so I could get this on film. This is one of the oldest commercial trucks LRS runs, and for its age it still runs like an absolute champ. Not much can beat the sound of a straight piped MR either, and listening to the engine throttle up only made it cooler. What’s pretty unique is that this one looks to be a 28 yard body, which is slightly larger than the rest of their Leach’s which are 25 yards. Another thing worth noting is the R Lock container tipper, which Lakeshore had retrofitted on a lot of their rear load units before switching over to Quik Tip. The driver was super cool and handled the route like a pro, and he always told me where he was going next which made it easier to follow so a big shoutout goes to him for making this possible. Yes yes yes! Greatest combo ever built, and it sounds great, and looks to operate beautifully still. Really awesome to see some commercial RL collection from LRS, and really cool to see an Arlock truck, almost seems like qwik tip copied Arlock’s homework, and just changed a few answers, lol.

I have to agree with you on that one, you just can’t beat a Mack Leach! Some good ol rearload commercial video from them has been long overdue so I was super excited to get this on film. It seems to me like when the Arlock design got sold to Wayne, Quik Tip was able to get away with more or less copying it which I’ve always found interesting but I guess it works haha glad you enjoyed the video!

I love this truck. What a great find! I cannot understand why the Leach 2RII is not the industry standard to this day. I’ve worked with Heil, McNeilus and Leach packers and the Leach has always been my favorite hands down. We had a ton of these trucks at Groot back when I worked there and I always enjoyed working on them. I drive an Autocar/PT1000 combo now and while I love the cycle time, it just doesn’t have the durability and reliability of the Leaches.

You simply can’t beat a Mack Leach! I can’t agree with you more on that, they seem like such great bodies overall however the only downside I see with them is the lack of speed. Speaking of Groot’s MR Leach’s, I filmed one just last week with a single man crew doing alley recycle in Brookfield- talk about a long day! From what I’ve heard those Heil’s are not the best at all, but having a fast blade does help. Thanks for the comment!

@@midwesttrashtrucks I feel the driver’s pain on that one. I did an entire Skokie residential recycle route in one of those one day. Bailing in and out of that tall cab all day, you talk about sore! I’m very thankful for my right hand drive. The PT1000 I drive is a special sealed version with a high hopper wall to prevent spills, as I collect commercial food waste so to say it’s sloppy is an understatement.

This one technically has always been with the company, it started out as a Lakeshore Waste Services truck but was promptly rebranded with the old LRS logo when Lakeshore Waste Services and Recycling Systems Inc merged
